Arcane 2x01 Reaction

the best show is back

Arcane 2x01 Reaction

Comments

In finale context below: I think both of us are vindicated! "Good Ones" was intentional as a flag, it just wasn't in the usual, disgusting context. Writers were cooking, huh?

Isaac

I think in season 2 it is a bit too much. In season 1 there were fewer but very powerfull music segments. Season 2 feels often a bit rushed too me because they use the music segments too show the passing of time and i'm like stop we and the characters need to process things.

Namikaza

I think this show would hit alot harder for some people if they watched all 18 episodes in a row.

Nathan Milligan

Because it's a human story and art is a reflection of reality. The parallels are insane though

Karabo

Yea I see what you are saying about Maddie, I know she was referring to Enforcers but also the decision to use the words "Good Ones' was very intentional in my honest opinion. The negative connotation on that term is too obvious and poignant for the writers to not know what they were doing. Furthermore I believe you are supposed to feel uneasy about the encounter with Maddie considering they are talking about Vi joining the enforcers, another reason why I believe that term was used intentionally, and even though she was talking about Enforcers, because that term was thrown in there it made my skin crawl a little bit, lol. I can't wait to get to the next 2 episodes because boy do I have other things I need to talk about, my comments are about to be pages long, hahaha.

Nyeisha Melvina Clark

I think it might be that it just isn't your type of show because most of your problems with it are things other people love. Even the music thing is an artistic choice, you either like it or you dont but i dont think you can say that there is a wrong and right way to express something.

BigJo H

The first season is great in my opinion and I wouldn't even be mad if there wasn't a second season because the first season wanted to tell the story it wanted to tell. I've only seen the first 5 episodes of the second season and I imagine they'll leave some storylines open because you can't finish them all. I think it's realistic that the next show will be set in Noxus to finish the conflict with the Medarda clan. After all, Arcane is all about Piltover and Zaun. I can therefore understand the frustration caused by the characters that were pushed into this story. But I have to say that the guy Vi was drinking with is just a friendly supporting character. Not everyone needs a detailed introduction.

Robert H.

nah

Wallas

You know, I agree about the music part, it just doesn't do it for me, that was the only negative point I gave the show in season 1. The art style and overall animation is what I find most appealing. It's just so beautiful to look at, I love how it combines 3d with 2d handrawn visual effects, also the oil painting style with visible brushstrokes is my favorite art style, kinda reminds me of one of my favorite artists, Cedric Peyravernay

HenryM

The music video thing is actually my only gripe with the show. I understand that it's in the studio's DNA and is how they made their mark, but it's a bit excessive, to me. I believe the plot is incredibly tight. It's just unforgiving if you aren't keeping details in mind. If you're not fresh on Season 1, you cannot expect to keep up with everything. Personally, I'm fine with that, but I understand that it can hurt the viewing experience for others

Isaac

I struggle with this show, a lot. I get the appeal with the core characters and beautiful art style, but I think it is way more flawed than most give it credit for.. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills sometimes. I think the plot is almost incomprehensible at times, maybe I'm just stupid but there are so many characters at this point, so many different motivations, they drop hints that a character has some significance here and there and I'm just like who even is this and why should i care abt them? (Case in point, the big dude Vi is drinking with in this episode) There is a music video in the beginning of each of these episodes and ok, it is cool and the music is good, but why is it necessary? For the vibes? There are 6 more episodes in this entire show and they are still introduction questions and yet we are taking long valuable minutes for an art show and music demo, it's just confusing to me.. And the other big thing, and it's just personal preference, I am not crazy abt the animation style.. I know its extremely expensive and any animation fan will tell you its top quality, but it just doesn't look appealing to my eyes. Same issue I had with Clone wars and Rebels (not comparing them, even I know this poops on those) but still, point stands

Mikey

The Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 1 - Part 2 - Break in December 2021. :D

Robert H.

STOP. After Episode 2x08 maybe. Don't take that from us this week :D

Robert H.

They want to time it so they can start severance season 2 right as arcane ends, so I don't think they'll go faster.

Nina

Agreeeeed

Mingo

I'd take one less haikyuu for one more arcane ngl

beastboy25

buddy, i think you'll have to wait 2 weeks to find out 😂

sand_fl

It's actually the best release model I've encountered

Isaac

I need to know: Does Milena love or hate the third episode? :D

Robert H.

Boy, is it hard to talk about the plot of Piltover vs Zaun without seeing the parallels with certain current events, hard to not constantly be reminded of it either.

Nina

Nah, I'm here for it. There's a lot of meat in these episodes and discussion is needed. I've been mulling over your read on Maddie and I'm not quite there. For starters, the line was "there are still good ones left". The context doesn't fit, to me. It's not like she was comparing Vi to other Zaunites, but rather to others connected to the Enforcers, which would be reasonable for a Junior Officer. I don't have a strong conviction either way, but I feel like the writers needed to use the exact quote if that's what they wanted to imply. I see a lot of concern about Vi's enlistment, but I don't see how she had much of a choice. I mentioned in another comment, "The success or failure of Caitlyn's strike force is the last thing stopping a full-scale invasion of Zaun". There is no more time and if Vi doesn't do all she can here, people she cares about below lose EVERYTHING. It's why she looks so miserable with the uniform on. No shot she would wear it, otherwise. Lastly, Ambessa & Mel dominate my attention for every scene they're in. How cool are they?

Isaac

Yessssss ARCANE, feels like back when we used to get AOT uploads from LM, are we gonna get this twice a week?

Mingo

The soundtrack to this season is fucking insane!!!

Alex

Good lord this show is so pretty, and the writing is lovely too. A bunch of lines from this episode still rattle in my head: "None of this has been on our terms" is easy to say when the peace and comfort you've been enjoying depends on the quiet suffering of others. "You never fill the hole" also stings my heart especially hard. All in all, an excellent return to a lavish work of art.

Berezant

I love the 3 episodes thing that Arcane does, still fits with the Netflix model but allows us to digest the show more. Can't wait for the rest

Karabo

This show is awesome but sometimes it's hard to catch all the references if you don't know the whole context of this world, hope they're adapting more stories in the future, specially from one region in particular that they haven't mentioned yet...

RepliCant

Oh the poor lesbians, only one of them was depressed now its both

Karabo

I love how everyone is nuanced and complex, Cait and Vi are my favorite couple in like TV and it rarely crosses my mind that they are Lesbians. Mel, Ambessa and Ekko are such amazing characters that me as a black person forgets that they are black, that's how it's supposed to be.

Karabo

I find it funny how a grieving mother came for revenge for her son but she didn't know that her son's death changed Jayce's perspective on using Hextech for War... But he killed her son so she's entitled to her lick back. Complicated!!!! I love the writing.

Karabo

I think so too and I think she feels guilty because it protected her and Jayce but once again Viktor is just a poor unlucky soul

Karabo

Also , anyone a Linkin Park fan and that song sounds better in the show? Heavy is The Crown indeed, poor Cait

Karabo

That Heavy is The Crown moment when Caitlin accepts her leadership of her House and puts together her strike team with Vi is so cool but all I want to do is cry coz fuck... @27:42 I am with you Lola, after this episode I just wanted to sit and digest that, too much happened there.

Karabo

Now onto my thoughts of this particular episode, lol. Long rant inbound sorry. We start off with seeing the aftermath of the bomb and the only thing I wanted honestly was for my black queen Mel Medarda to survive and survive she did. Felt sad for the others but also didn’t know them so my sadness lasted two seconds lol. I was happy that Jayce saved Viktor but all I kept thinking was “this about to have some consequences”. We get to the funerals and I did feel bad for Caitlyn, losing a parent is never easy and I’m sure it eats at her that she didn’t shoot Jinx cuz if she had then this wouldn’t have happened. I felt for her. I loved how much Mel is STILL trying to do what’s right even after being caught in a bomb but honestly she is fighting a losing battle I fear, too many hotheads around her and Ambessa (another black queen albeit an evil one lol) is all too happy to stir the pot. Now this is where hard topics start coming in and my opinions on certain characters start to shift, and by that I mean specifically Vi and Caitlyn. First off I’m sorry but the tone deafness of Caitlyn to actually ask Vi to be an enforcer is just mind boggling. I get she is grieving and therefore not thinking clearly but I still was baffled by this and her saying “I thought you were on our side” was disgusting honestly. Also having Maddie(the young enforcer girl) tell to Vi you’re “one of the good ones” was so DISGUSTING, it was a very intentional very clear cut comment and the writers knew what they were doing. But imagine my surprise at what happens in the end of this episode and therefore lies my only problem so far, like I get that in the game Vi is an enforcer, I understand that it was only a matter of time before they made her one, I was prepared for it, my only issue is that I don’t feel like enough happened in this episode for her to change her mind and become one and no I don’t think the attack should have been enough honestly. Taking into account the significance of putting that badge on, a badge that is the symbol of every horrible thing that has happened to her, I felt like this should have been a decision Vi wrestled with for at least 2 episodes before going all in. But that’s just my opinion and not everybody has to agree. Also in regards to Cait, I genuinely felt bad for her throughout the episode, right up until the moment the word “animals” came out her mouth, again I understand she is grieving and therefore not thinking straight but that was disgusting and I won’t pretend it wasn’t. The route they are going with her character I believe is very good and very realistic, she represents a good portion of actual people in the real world today and I like how the show is shining a light on it, and what they are trying to say, but even though I believe it to be brilliant writing, I can’t say I particularly like her right now. I wanted to say more but this is already 5 pages long so I’m gonna leave it at that lol. Can’t wait for the deep discussions that come up during this show.

Nyeisha Melvina Clark

Dare I utter the words Arcane Tuesday???

Benodinson

In the final scene of the first season, Mel’s golden jewellery that lies across her neck and back appeared to flash just before Jinx’s rocket hit. I’m not sure but I always thought there was some relevance to that, perhaps a built-in safeguard from an attack?

Darrach

The nuance with the Hextech weapons is that it's only Caitlyn's small squad armed with them. The council & Ambessa are trying to have Hextech weapons mass-produced which could fuel a major war machine and cause countless casualties here(if not around the world) The success or failure of Caitlyn's strike force is the last thing stopping a full-scale invasion of Zaun

Isaac

That was Mel's mother and her bodyguard that threw those spears, along with her other crew members in the background.

ODIS

Still in the middle of watching the reaction, but that lady who was attacking Jayce is the mother of that red haired boy that Jayce accidentally shot and killed with his electric hammer when he first raided the undercity with Vi(and the gauntlets) back in season 1.

uJrath

ah good to know, thank you

Zach D

Sopranos and Arcane, I feel spoiled. Glad I get to watch along with M&L this season, rather than racing ahead because I don't have the patience lmao. Can't wait for the next reaction!

Mark M

Sopranos is Wednesday (Thursday when late)

Isaac

Lola, the reason you watched Season 1 was because there was exactly 9 weeks before Attack on Titan came back, so we engaged in very shameless begging to get you two to watch it :D (this is becoming a pattern)

Isaac

With only three episodes out I still have A LOT of thoughts. This is still one of the best shows I have seen but I have a lot to say about the characters and plots and not all of my thoughts are good tbh. Living as a black woman in America, just like with The Wire, a lot of the subject matter hits a little TOO close to home and some of these characters are putting me off in the worst way. With that being said, just like with The Wire I really do appreciate this show for bringing up these uncomfortable yet necessary subject matters, especially with what is happening in the world right now, these topics need to be discussed. On a happier note, I cannot express enough, the sheer joy at the amount of BLACK EXCELLENCE in this show, like this show possibly stands out above the rest at allowing their black characters to be perfectly nuanced and engaging, and giving them proper shine as well along with the other characters, I genuinely couldn’t ask for more. Best show is indeed correct ladies!!!!

Nyeisha Melvina Clark

Damn you spelled The Penguin wrong lol

Jack SV
