That’s a big disappointment. Among every other reactor I know, it’s standard practice, and the only real basis of value. May as well just wait for YouTube.

I doubt that anyone cares, but I just joined, and thought we would be getting full-episode watch alongs that we sync with our copy. But it looks like nothing more than YouTube edits. Or am I missing some feature that hasn’t been engaged?

I'm not sure if that has been mentioned yet, but Meadows friend is played by David Chase' daughter.

The milk spilling pisses me off so much in this episode😂 I agree with the disgust on Lola’s face when it happened🤣 Also the gay theory for Richie is so rogue haha

Just came back to say.. you know what.. I won’t dismiss everything you said about Richie because that would be spoilers but your take about his sexuality because he did time in jail and that comment that girl made to him is definitely interesting. I can’t wait for both of you to get to the end of this season.

Richie Aprile. Said to be the most true-to-life representation of a mafioso, which says a lot. Really intense performance from David Proval, the anger in the eyes is crazy.
We met Elliot, Melfi’s therapist. Peter Bogdanovich plays him, but he was primarily a filmmaker himself, directing numerous films as part of the ‘New Hollywood’ movement in the 70s and 80s, alongside other directors like Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, Steven Speilberg etc. He has influenced many filmmakers that have come in later years.

Ah, Richie Aprile. He's a fascinating character, and also the most "realistic" gangster: No matter their pretensions for being Men of Honor who follow a Code, they're really violent, impulsive people who can't even follow their own rules.
When Tony and Richie talk about Chris (After Richie threatens him for hitting Adriana), Tony describes Chris as "Capable". This is a coded way of saying that Chris has already killed somebody. Chris still isn't a Made Man, but Tony is warning Richie not to screw around with him too much even though Richie is technically allowed to.
Richie's issue with Beansie (The pizza guy) is somewhat complicated: As they discussed here, before Richie went to jail Beansie was an underling who worked in his crew. Beansie is no longer a 'street earner' (Meaning he doesn't engage in robbery/extortion/drug dealing/etc. personally anymore), but he's still an Associate since Tony uses his pizza parlors to launder money. What Richie is saying is that since Beansie used to be in his crew, Beansie owes him money now.
Richie is demanding money for the past 10 years, and also an ongoing payoff from Beansie as part of the normal kickup. Beansie doesn't want to pay that because it will be a lot of money in and of itself, and also because he no longer views himself as part of Richie's "crew". Since Beansie is an Associate and not a 'civilian' he has pull with Tony that he expected to protect him, but since he isn't a Made Man Richie didn't let that worry him and came after him anyway.
Janice has a son with a Canadian man from Quebec (Eugene), who left her and took their son. Janice says that she petitioned the state department to get him back, since they're in Canada and she's got no custodial authority to get him back. There's no details yet, but based on just what we've seen so far I'm calling Eugene a gosh-dang hero for rescuing his son from Janice. Imaging if somebody had gotten Janice, Tony and Barbara away from Johnny and Livia!

The iconic scene where Tony tells Richie off near the end of the episode is one of my favourites great chemistry between the two you can see the anger on Tony and trying to set things right while Richie’s actor (David Proval) doesn’t move or speak it’s honestly kind of creepy how he isn’t bothered by his personal space being breached and stares down Tony despite being towered over him and the twitch in his face he has eyes like hot coffee that’s gone cold

Arcane released season 1 episodes in blocks of 3. Think they might be doing the same for the upcoming season too.

Well he must have been a much earlier choice because the final three i read was jackie’s actor, steve van zandt who ended up playing silvio and james gandolfini himself.
I also read ray liotta was considered but he turned it down? Idk if that one is true but i don’t find it hard to believe considering 90% of this cast was imported from goodfellas anyways.

These episodes are better for more dissection anyways. There’s still some ideas and dynamics they didn’t cover in the discussion that the show started laying out here. It’s similar to mad men in that way, and less like say, the wire where it’s far more serialized and each season as a whole is more of a story unit that crystallizes more as it goes on so binging is more beneficial there.

You are now introduced to my favorite villain in the Sopranos, Richie Aprile. The way David Proval plays a psychopath is so chilling and convincing. As for Beansie (the guy Richie beats up), he used to work for Richie, but when he got sent to jail he invested the money he accumulated to build that pizza joint and go legit. Richie wanted a piece of the action but Beansie refused since he wants to continue being legit basically.

Gay men in the mob, including the concept of "gay for stay" in prison, is definitely an interesting subject to hear you two discuss. It's one of the reasons I love your reactions, how good you both are at digesting the plots and characters you watch and thinking through wider issues and possibilities.

I made a little silly thing of the Sopranos reactions if anyone wants a good, dumb laugh. It's all made in good fun. There are no spoilers for the Sopranos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AfWvABNB0k

The actor who plays Richie, David Proval, was an early choice to play Tony before David Chase met James Gandolfini.

I think 3 at a time for a show like this works because you can actively recall events that happened an episode or 2 ago. At the same time, it's not so many episodes binged that you can't process it
