Whilst we're mentioning film, I got to say "Hereditary" was a very odd choice for two who don't consume that medium a lot, also as a genre I don't think horror was it.
I'd love for yall to see Big Fish (2004), Aftersun (2022), or even Truman Show (1998). I've got more recommends but hopefully a poll is put up again sometime soon.

I find that I possess the opposite issues, I cannot get into a lot of TV because of the commitment to them which is why Avatar and The Bear were so good for me because of the short running time. For Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul they were so worth the sacrifice of time, with movies they're easier to digest because all the information is within their typical 1-2 hour runtime.

I love Livia talking shit about her dessert and how it’s inedible, and then immediately offering it to Janice. Janice having a scorpion ring on her finger when holds her mother’s hand is probably deliberate. Reminds me of the movie ‘Drive’ and wearing the iconic scorpion jacket, relating to the fable of the scorpion and the frog. I wonder if the intention was the same here.
Junior trying to appeal to the Judge with the Nazi Germany comparison, because he noticed the judge had a Jewish name, and it backfiring on him is so good lol.
Every time AJ and Livia have a one-on-one meeting, it spells complete disaster for someone else. Telling her that Tony is seeing a psychiatrist, and here with Janice and the DNR. Let’s see what happens with their next meeting.
The pastors father dying suddenly definitely softened Tony towards Junior, something quite heartwarming seeing him carry him out like that despite what has just occurred between them.

I always had the same problem with movies for the exact same reason until I started to approach them more as more single story episodes of shows. In tv shows like black mirror which you guys like every episode is completely different and the story’s are contained to 45 minutes. Once I started viewing movies like that Instead of comparing them to tv shows I started loving them.
My favourite is Tokyo story and one you guys would love.

The sopranos doesn’t really do cliffhangers. Most episodes have a theme and story they start and finish in the same episode that connects into the larger story of the season or show.

Maybe not for the channel, but if Lola likes Pride and Prejudice she should check out the 1995 BBC adaption which was the biggest show in the UK that year.

I'm pretty sure there was a TV network in the 1970s that cut the two godfather movies into hour long chunks and made a miniseries from the two movies. If that story were made today instead of the 70s, it would most likely be a miniseries show rather than two movies anyway.

Regarding movies, the extended editions of the three Lord of the Rings movies are split over 6 discs. Every year or two, I treat them as a sort of 6 episode miniseries and watch a disc each evening. If LM ever consider Lord of the Rings, that might be an approach to take.

I love the Tony/Junior relationship. The unsaid thing being that they both know Junior is a puppet. Junior takes the role but he still resents Tony for it. Tony knows what he's done to Junior and understands why he did what he did. Junior truly didn't want to kill Tony, but he resented him enough to go after him when given the opportunity. Which Livia knew and used to her benefit. They remind me a bit of Don and Pete Campbell in Mad Men season 1.

Tony’s pillow choice is likely linked to his mother saying she’d rather smother her kids with a pillow than let them go to nevada in the flashback episode.

Interesting seeing Janice call their father Johnny “Daddy” twice. She doesn’t talk lovingly about Livia at all. It’s so creepy seeing Livia smile when she picks up on Janice’s lies, she loves conflict and deception and this episode showcases that she taught both to her children. She’s so insidious calling Carmela and trying to try stir the pot
I think Junior was always bothered that Tony was subservient to his brother but not to him
This is one of those shows where you could write a paper on each character’s relationship with other specific family members

TBF I wouldn’t wanna talk to Livia about my name change either, she seems to avoid conversations with Livia that are painful
She’s a great contrast to Tony in the way they interact with their mother

A character can be fascinating AND one dimensional. It just means they don't have much depth, but they can still be interesting to watch. Joffrey from GoT or some of the side characters from The Bear are good examples.
And idk if you'll find her more interesting in future episodes, but yes, she does get more dimensions.

It's definitely a movie about people above all else. It seems like they would enjoy it. I think they mentioned thinking that it's an action movie the first time they saw Silvio doing Pacino impressions.

I think Tony knows in the back of his mind that Junior had a fair point in his beef with Tony. He and the other capos are meeting behind Junior's back. In the business they are in, it's not an outrageous conclusion for Junior to assume that they are plotting to take him out.

All I see in Janice is an amoral con-woman, no better than her mother. every word she speaks is purposefully placed to trick others and play the victim, everything she does is in service to herself. I think her motivations are very simple, she wants the house because it has value, she might just want to sell it for the money, I don't think she planned to kill her mother but she seems happy to do it if it gets her the house.
You called her a fascinating character but so far I have to disagree, she's very one dimensional for now, but it's only been 2 episodes, we'll see if she gets more interesting.

How many times is AJ gonna leak family secrets to Livia that causes conflict lol.
This episode continues a through-line established last episode which is loyalty. Nothing quite black and white like if it's good or not, we're seeing some questionable ones like should Tony actually show some to Junior the way he's doing, even if the last scene was strangely moving. Or Janice, in practice actually being present for Livia, but obviously with an alternative agenda even though it's still better than the alternative of Tony literally leaving her on the streets (for Livia herself that is). That idea is woven into too many things to count. Last episode book-ended Tony coming back home to Carmela after cheating and the episode ended with him spending quiet time with her. Also had a scene where Meadow says she won't abandon Livia and in this episode she kind of just used her as an excuse to get out of the house late at night. With Pussy, it's self-explanatory. Even with the black priest leading the protestors and Tony showing ire to Bobby simply because he's a member of Junior's crew.

Here's where you really start to see more of Janice's personality come through, and she's just Livia 2.0. The exact same self-centered manipulation: Nothing matters -- there's no truth or lies -- as long as she gets what she wants.
The moment that crystalized it for me was her name: She has every right to change her name to "Parvati", and she has every right to change it back to "Janice" if she wants. She doesn't need to justify the change to anybody else, or even to us as the audience. But she DOESN'T "change" it back to Janice, she just pretends it always was Janice and laughs off her mother talking about it. Because right now it benefits her to be seen as the dutiful daughter, so everything else simply doesn't matter.
Everything is re-written right in the moment, because she wants something.
Livia has been saying "daughters are better at taking care of their mothers" from the very beginning. Even before she and Tony had the falling out, when Janice hadn't been here for years and Barbara was an infrequent visitor. She first said it in the pilot episode. It's always just been a way for her to ground down on Tony, and she hasn't let up...until it serves her purpose to do so.

with movies, they are shorter so i look for authenticity, acting, entertainment factor, production value (whether it is low budget or high budget), do I "buy it", does it grab me, did it take me somewhere for 2 hours. so i end up having weird list of movies i like.

I also prefer shows generally, I will say though I sometimes have phases where I'll watch a lot of movies and what's really nice about them is the ability to tell a clean and concise story. A good movie will not leave me wanting for more, but content with what I got.
