I had the same feelings after this episode finished about wanting to go back and watch episode 1 again!! You worded it so well, and I think it's such a neat aspect of Frieren's story-writing. I think it's because it wasn't until episode 14 where I felt like Himmel's character fully clicked for me. I was always in awe of how wonderful he is, but there's something so powerful about how motivated by love Himmel is and the ways he expressed that love. Wanting to love and be loved in return is such a human thing, but he was more than wiling to just silently love Frieren unconditionally. Even if she never realized the full depths of his feelings (and how understood by him she was) in his lifetime. That aspect of Himmel's character has really stuck with me <3

I would say it's one of my favourite episodes... but when I think about it a little more I'd have to say it's one of my *twenty-eight* favourite episodes lol. It's so difficult to separate one from another in terms of preference because the series is so good. Your reactions did the episode justice, btw. I can empathise with you 100% when Himmel drops to one knee and slips the ring on Frieren's finger. My heart stopped for a moment. You said all the things I've been hoping to hear from a reactor every time I've watched a reaction to this. You warm my heart. Thank you so, so much for all your reactions. So put statutes everywhere so she would never be alone. There will always be a marker to tell her that they ( specifically He was real ). He did not want to fade from her memory. He gave her a ring pledging his eternal love for her knowing it would likely be after his death that she would finally understand his feelings.

2024-09-27 21:29:41 +0000 UTCSomeone online said that Himmel never married and had a family because to him, his heart always belonged to Frieren and Himmel didn’t want to betray that and I was never the same after reading it. The way the proposal was basically just Himmel telling Frieren he loves her without actually saying so, with a ring that means eternal love and without asking for anything in return because he understood her and how she couldn’t reciprocate at the time was truly beautiful. A truly magnificent and unrealistic man lol!!!! Also love the parallel between Frieren/Himmel and Fern/Stark but is knowing that for Fern/Stark it will have a different outcome is beautiful.

The way Himmel never outright speaks his true feelings for Frieren fits well with Sein's point that people often don't know how others feel unless it's said out loud, yet Himmels proposal spoke volumes without saying a word. Beautifully tragic 😔

The headpat to Heiter was beautiful I cried :’) also they already said it in the comments since you ladies said “clock” at the start of the episode… Time (clock tower) being the thing standing in between Frieren and Himmel indeed is so 💔 Happy Frieren Friday indeed!

2024-09-27 19:11:15 +0000 UTCIf you go back to the scene where Himmel puts the ring on Frierens finger, you can see the clock tower standing in the middle of them, symbolizing that the only thing that stands in between them is time. Before he put the ring on her, there were people in the background, but the moment he fell to a knee, if you look for the crowd you will notice the crowd disappeared .For a moment the world was just for the two of them. At the time Himmel knew the meaning behind that ring, that man loved her and wanted nothing but the best for her.

It’s because whenever he appears, he shines the brightest. The amount of influence Himmel has on Frieren and this show is insane. Even tho he died in episode 1. He was an incredible man, a true hero who will forever be remembered along with his wonderful party, as expected of Himmel the kindest hero.

There’s so much - the Stark/Fern scenes, Stark/Himmel parallels and him going to the Himmel statue when he’s at a loss, the Heiter/Frieren scene calling back to their earlier interactions, and obviously the Himmel/Frieren scene, with the clock tower framing and the wedding/funeral bells, with the amazing music underscoring it. Just peak Frieren. Peak peak.
