Yeah it felt extra jarring seeing these real chefs talking about stories and then our characters interject with their “fake” experiences

I get why they did it, but this is the show at its worst imo. Shoehorning in real chefs just because they can, because the show has reached such high status they can get anyone they want... John Cena, Michelin star chefs, whoever. It felt like a Verge Roundtable YouTube video you put on while eating. I care about our characters, I want to see our characters progress (good or bad), so it felt borderline insulting to spend ten mins listening to real chefs talk while our characters nodded like "hmm yes interesting"

Currently I teach at a culinary college but had spent many years as a chef. I cannot watch The Bear because it gives me triggers my anxiety from all those years. I did watch a few episodes of season one and this episode with my mom because she wanted to know my thoughts on the chef scenes. My only issue is that often what is years of struggle gets reduced down to a few sentences to get a sense of the kitchen life. From the conversation you had after the episode it is clear the show does a decent job of getting the feeling through.Lola had an excellent summation of why Carmie goes back to the abuse he knows. In the kitchen world the culture of total commitment and giving up everything else still rules. As a teacher at a Culinary College I am trying to change the culture and prepare the students with a stronger understanding of mental health. I tell them all they can find the kitchen the has a culture that will work for their personality.
Great reaction and I wish I could watch the entire series but when I try it brings back all the stress. Both of you are great and I love your reactions.

Wasn’t a fan of the real chefs scenes since it felt like it was taking away time from the rest of the cast. Like others mentioned, the lack of real progression (besides Sugar having her baby) made things feel boring.

well, definitely not watching this right now just in case it's mildly stressful because i had the worst day at work and two of my friends ended up in the hospital (nothing too serious) but i was literally working while crying lol

Episode 1, Episode 3, Episode 6, Episode 8, Episode 10. There is just too many phenomenal episodes this season for me to complain about what we got. Sometimes it felt like the show was spinning its wheels in place this season, but I enjoy watching that spinning like it’s hypnotic lol. I think this season will be paid off in the next season, and will perhaps be viewed more positively by general audiences in context, I feel the same way about HOTD S2

I felt this season lacked progression and it makes sense with carmy's state of mind but it really didn't feel satisfying. I still liked it and it has some excellent episodes. I just think the last 2 were stronger

Idk, I think I shared the same sentiment as the others when I said I feel this season was a bit messy to sometimes down right just boring.. idk what it was about the other two seasons that made this show entertaining but in this season that was lacking. I hope I can change my opinion by next season.

whoever picks the soundtrack for the bear is such a big indie/alt rock fan. the sundays song that plays when syd walks in is such a good niche pick

really liked how this season ended, the houseparty scene was such a bittersweet sendoff especially with the song playing
if anyone’s interested i compiled all the songs from s3 in a playlist https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6JTUIlx7bRLIcvFDoub0KH?si=y5utJRxvQQKMZRbJ45VPCg
