it's so hard not to draw succession comparisons with the greens, like aegon clumsily trying to prove himself worthy on the battlefield only to crash and burn is the high fantasy equivalent of one of kendall's schemes to take waystar backfiring in his face

2024-07-25 08:21:14 +0000 UTCYes but i think the writers intentionally had him have.. intercourse with his mother as she validated him to show us that the manifestation of his love is always… “wrong”. Sex being the ultimate form of love expression for him is intentional. I remember a common sentiment in the fandom being that Daemon would like being a woman so he could marry his brother and have his love lol. Obviously i don’t think daemon is actually attracted to his brother, rather, a family THIS incestuous would have a twisted view of love, and perhaps see sexual intimacy as the height of love. I certainly think his attraction to rhaenyra (partially) comes from wanting to be closer to his brother.

To have his thought that he is the rightful and best possible ruler confirmed by those around him and so on.

2024-07-25 06:13:54 +0000 UTCi love that daemon's hallucination of his mother shows that his need for love always emerges in the most fucked up way possible. his love is so twisted. we saw it with the way he treated his brother. we see it in how he treats rhaenyra. it is very obvious how the normalization of incest has affected him psychologically. how it influences his behaviour.

2024-07-25 06:03:39 +0000 UTCYou guys were spot on in saying that Alicent sees herself in Aegon and Aemond. Olivia Cooke said the same thing. This is what i think she sees. Aegon: desperate need to be loved, being created and used for a single purpose (power), she sees her own "patheticness" in him when he seeks love or shows vulnerability, which is why she can't stand him whenever he appears "weak". Aemond: she sees her own resentment, vindictiveness, jealousy, and the hard shell she has to put around herself to not appear "weak" (something she started doing in 1x05, when she wore the Green Dress). It's probably why she was closer to Aemond when he was growing up. He represented her "current" self. He was vulnerable but did his best to hide it and do his duty as best he could. But like her, under that shell is an ocean of resentment and jealousy and it's showing itself, and it reminds her of herself, and she can't stand him either. Like, am i this ugly? Is this what i looked like when I lashed out over the injustices in my life?

Daemon’s visions and dreams are his insecurities reflected clearly. "You'd make a great king" etc. he’s going through a character arc and personal growth which really would do him good so people complaining about him being boring should be happy he’s not just going back and being exactly like in s1. He clearly has big insecurities he needs to deal with that has haunted him a long time. Also did you see any of the maps I posted on the previous episode for you guys? Regards from Sweden.
