HH Episode 147 Reaction

If you want to see the history of the Spider Gang, watch manga chapters 395,396,397

O AL

By being the Penultimate episode the separations really hit hard because you're not expecting it.

Junkboy

"Why didn't I see the apology?" You did. It happened right before Killua's sister scolded him

Paqi

It's not a big deal, it just confirms what Pitou already said while fighting Gon: "he's prepared to never use Nen again"

Jesús Montemayor

It was certainly a wonderful journey, i loved following HxH with you, girls, thanks for this experience! Please, if you decide to read the manga after the anime, be sure to post your impressions somewhere, or even record your reactions, if possible! I will be more than happy to embark on this journey with you! And, i know that the ending of the anime leaves a very bitter taste for all of us, it hurts a lot. HOWEVER, there are still two movies that might temporarily satisfy our hunger for more HxH content. Yes, i know the movies don't have the same masterful quality that the anime does, but i still really like them, and it would be great to see you watching them. The 1st focuses a little on Kurapika and explains a little about his past, although it is very brief compared to the manga. Plus, the best thing both movies have to offer is the opportunity to see our boys together again, all four of them! The truth is, i don't want this journey to end, so i'm trying to extend it as long as possible! 🥺💞🤌

HxH has my heart

re: the episode. It's worth recalling that on whale island, Killua talked about how he didn't know what he wanted to do with his life, and decided he would travel with Gon until he figured it out. That smile Gon flashed at Killua, when he mentioned he was going to spend his life protecting his sister, was Gon realizing Killua found his purpose

Paqi

Whoever mentioned Gon's Nen past this point to them spoiled something big, and I'm pretty annoyed to have found that out this way

Paqi

I'm so excited for Haikyuu! please don't let this be the ultimate tease!

Kolton Nay

There are 2 movies that u can watch after the end of hxh, so u can enjoy them a bit more.

elaias182

I agree the pacing isn't great at a lot of points, although this doesn't really happen until later on - that said I still think they'd enjoy a lot of characters and the storytelling overall despite my misgivings.

Dillis

moje saučešće ❤️❤️

LM Reactions

Maybe Togashi has some plan for the Koala and the other ants for a hypothetical future arc related to Gyro. Maybe that's the reason he decided to include it there. I'm just speculating, of course.

refo44

Please god everyone vote monster🤣

JATLA

If you guys ever read the manga after this, you could continue this series as a podcast style with an episode weekly or monthly. There's 60 chapters out which could be another year of content if you do 1 chapter/week or 6 months if you do a volume a month. I'd definitely stay tuned in to hear what you think!!

Nameless

Yeah that Thorfin Leaf reunion was even worse. Poor Leif has been searching for Thorfin for decades at that point!

MaxVSTheGames

Too much episodes, drawn out episodes with terrible pacing. So many other shows to watch without giving them something like that.

Alpha

That's true, men we don't normally dwell on apologies especially between close friends and same with goodbyes.

Timothy Smith

it would be great if they reacted to 1999 version!

Kizaru

waa hoo hoo :(

TuiLa4

It reminds me of Vinland saga season 2 when they didn't show a scene of Thorfin reuniting with Leif

Sam M

this episode was made just so that I'd want to crawl in a ball in my bed and cry until I'd feel depleted of any emotion. what was this. what. no. there's only one EPISODE LEFT WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE GONNA LEAVE ME LIKE THAT

Lau

100% agreed

Lau

yes, I believe Lola used to play

Lau

Christopher Rathauscher

I feel bad for not grasping the depth of kills pain until now this was a way more tragic ending than I realized 😞

Fantastic

Space Mechanic

I completely understand being disapointed with not seeing the apology or the Alluka meeting. On my first time watching I felt exactly the same because this relationship is honestly my favourite one in all of fiction, as the level of purity and vulnerability on display are unmatched. HOWEVER I do sort of understand why he decided to not include it on the page, as we can heavily infer from what we got that Killua is still not fully over what Gon did, which imo is completely fair enough. I think this is classic Togashi writing where he puts realism above a flashy climax, as in real life friendships being damaged like this often result in the true extent of the hurt being brushed under the carpet. Again, I think it's more than fair for people to be disapointed with this but for me it continues to ground the story in a way that makes it hurt all the more. Not at all emotionally prepared for the last episode this week, doesn't feel real.

Kya Colosseum

English is not my first language so anime in English dub is very weird to me. Haikyuu sub is very good, I really don't think it'll be complicated for them to follow. They watched hxh, aot, Vinland in sub and it was totally fine.

sakurabraus

Please share your thoughts on the manga in whatever form you want to if you ever decide to read it! Your insight & theories make the series so much more fun to experience! Thank you for journey!

Jibble

It's so beautiful!!

I knew their separation would come as a shock and hit you hard with all the mentions of Alluka joining the group and going with them. I love that the Greed Island ED became the theme of Gon and Killuas friendship. An instrumental of it plays when Killua rips out Illumis needle. I do wish a reunion and apology scene was here, but sadly this is how it all went down in the manga. One last episode 😭

Darrach

I genuinely think HxH is better on a rewatch, so would kill for them to rewatch it on stream or something 😭 Just not ready to let go of this show again 💔

Kya Colosseum

I have seen HunterX several times, but now in this episode I realized something, and that is that Kulia somehow found a purpose or something to do with his life. If we go back to when Gon and Kilua visit Mito San, Gon commented that his mission is to find Gin and in the meantime Kilua would look for what his purpose is or what he would like to look for in his life. Already in this final episode Gon practically found his father and Killua his desire to be there and take care of his sister. so the journey for them ends.

Koosen

Nos vemos en el 148

David Brown

you think too deep, they are just 13 years old that don't know how to express feelings

Dario Campos

Gon was quoting Kite when he said 'nakama'.

Ruma Risto

I think at this point, Gon and Killua themselves were simply not ready to unpack everything that happened. So they kept things superficially happy between them for this short time, not acknowledging that the hurt went deeper than they could deal with. I think that's why, as they turn away from each other, their expressions fall. They both know that damage was done, but it's not time yet for them to really break down their trauma and reconcile. I don't think there was a big apology or discussion between them that wasn't shown.

Flubbedsquid

Togashi was throwing some far out ideas here regarding reincarnation. The Buddhism theme never left the room with this story.

SoClose

@henrym yeah your art is really neat!

Harfie

You're so right - right from the beginning of the show you can kind of see how Killua hated everything (cept Gon) - he hated his family, he hated his job, he even hated himself or at least felt he was unlovable and worthless like you said. Then Gon and Killua, just by their good nature, start to experience all the great things in life. Killua learns to love, and learns to love himself. But then things kind of flip in a way. It's Gon that stops loving or appreciating anything in life, Killua included, once Kite dies. It just destroys the Gon we once knew, and it's like poor Killua was hardly there at all for Gon in the Chimera Arc. Both of them go through what the other goes through in a way, only for them to seperate once they do..but at least they're healthy and happy, and I think ties that bind like they do never really seperate

Ben G

The apology that you were shown was actually the apology given - in the manga its no different, and i think what's both unfortunate and beautiful about the writing is goodbye would always look like this Gon was never going to have too much to say, and Killua would never press the issue - lended moreso to a couple of other previous occurences, 1. When Killua was severely injured and disappeared to recover in NGL, he kept the conversation very objective oriented and not dramatic while Gon wanted to freak out. While 2. When the shoe was on the other foot Gon- during his reunion that we were shown with Sir Always The Drama Himself Leorio - kept it pretty casual as well, and we know that Killua is never the one to escalate to begin with. So all we missed was probably a text conversation to meet up at the World Tree and then a "hey" "hi" "this is my sister" "tight lets go" While it's not really a fulfilling reunion and departure, and I can't possibly disagree - it's very within their parameters

Spider #13

When you say dubbed I guess you are talking about the English version and not the Serbian dub. Remember English is not their mother tongue either. To watch it dubbed is not necessarily more easy. And sorry but for this show the original voice actor are way better than the English voices.

refo44

I would genuinely watch a re-watch react

Skye

Great reaction as usual, hope you guys give jujutsu kaisen a chance.

Casval

I think their audience is from different countries, to me is really weird hearing the english dub bcs is not my mother tongue lol so I'm always gonna prefer sub when im watching reactors

Nino

I agree, the message is important, but it's sad that we didn't have one more episode to finish all the cores in a more satisfactory way

Wallas

I think showing them reuniting and then immediately separating would have been too much really.

Mars Martian

I am the ultimate shill for Haikyu but I gotta advise against this one lol the dub is absolutely hilarious and honestly really captures how idiotic young athletes can be but I need them to hear "Hinata from the concrete" and not "Hinata from the Karasuno parking lot" lol

KIMI

Thanks for all the love guys <3 @Harfie I should probably make an art insta and start uploading these

HenryM

Honestly I wouldn't be suprised if you two could get into One Piece - I particularly enjoy the humor from the early episodes. There's also a lot of characters I think you guys would love.

Dillis

I think one of them said they used to played vollyball or am i wrong? Is so the rules shouldn’t be that hard to explain

Jonathan baez

Maybe it's just a young boy thing (i honestly have no idea) but this is just how goodbyes go with your friends. My best friend for years moved when we became freshman and the goodbye was just short and bittersweet like that. It was like that the other times when Leorio or Kurapika left as well. I think Togashi for intentionally made it feel this way if I had to guess.

YawnSong

You make a good point about wanting to see more of the bestest of boys. But the Koala's scene is touching on something really deep about life itself. Togashi is hinting that there's more to our existence than meets the eye - that we're all part of something bigger, something that goes beyond just one lifetime. This moment invites us to think about our own lives differently. Are we stuck in patterns we don't see? Is there more to who we are than we realize? It suggests life isn't just a straight line from birth to death, but a web of connected experiences. By sharing Koala's thoughts, Togashi is gently nudging us to look at life and consciousness in a new way. He's reminding us that there might be more to our existence than we usually think about. While it might seem to take away from the main story, it actually adds a deeper layer by getting us to question what reality really is.

Sam

this is so beautiful

Wallas

I think it's fair to say these chapters were a little rushed, this was start of a long Hiatus for the manga that took 4 years due to the authors health problems. It's been pretty well chronicled but you can also see the decline in the art quality by that point. Even comparing the chapters 337-339 that were used for these last episodes to 340 onward that came 4 years later and the brilliant drawings in the dark continent arc that follows which are night and day. It was/is difficult for Togashi to even sit in a chair to draw extensively and at this point he was likely at his lowest mental and physical health-wise.

Aris

I think the Chimera Ant Arc definitely was a turning point for their relationship, negatively speaking. It's interesting that you brought up these translations, I didn't know about this! If one were to speculate, maybe Gon could feel some sort of resentment towards Killua for deciding to go his own way and essentially leaving him for Alluka? I don't know, it kinda feels like a reach but who knows. Killua definitely still carries a lot of hurt, of that I'm sure.

mvri

Shout out to that whale island episode where Killua didn't know what he wanted to do in life. Now he has found it thru Alluka

Chrisenrico Sese

I don't even watch Hunter but I came here to say well done because it was shared in the Discord. Well done mate!!

TeaDrinker3000

Man, the glances Gon and Killua exchange in the alley is the bit that hits me the hardest. It’s such a subtle moment but it conveys so much emotion. It really just feels like two people who are aware that their paths are no longer intersecting, and they have to go their own ways. To me it feels like after everything they went through in the chimera ant arc, they can’t really go back to the ways things were. It’s not spoken in dialogue, but I definitely feel it in that moment.

ridleymon

The show really never feels like it’s ending for me until we get to this episode. The ending montage was just perfect and no one is gonna be able to resist crying to it. Tbh i never thought to hard on the killua and gon reunion being rushed since I’m always an emotional wreck by the time I get to this episode but i do wonder now if the anime cut out material from the manga of their reunion or if it’s the exact same.

Isaiah Cox

That's so cute haha! Do you have an art insta or twitter? :)

Harfie

The ending scene where they split with the greed island song was good and a decent tribute to their relationship, but everything before that felt very rushed and seems like a huge opportunity missed in terms of exploring any real fallout from the stuff that happened in the CA arc. It's just missing so much texture and detail and I know they're not even part of the current manga arc so i guess it's basically just hanging there.

Veya

Killua in Episode 37: "There's nothing I really want to do... I'll help you look for your dad until I discover what I want to do!" This separation was foreshadowed for a long time, Killua finally found his higher purpose in Alluka.

madgod

Gon and Killua's farewell was meant to be bittersweet, it's not to seem like everything between them is resolved, but it's what had to happen, especially for Killua's growth as a character. He evolved and found a new motivation, Gon not so much... My complaint about this episode is the time we wasted with Koala, even though it's an important scene, I would have liked to have seen a longer conversation with Kite, or with Gon and Killua :c

Wallas

God I've been waiting a long time for this. I always cry buckets when rewatching this scene, and I remember watching it for the very first time years ago and being as frustrated as Milena and Lola. It seemed so absurd and unfair that Gon and Killua had to separate so abruptly after spending so many adventures and years of their lives together. Watching it now, as much as it hurts, I kinda understand what Togashi was trying to do by making them split up. Aside from the fact that Illumi is on the hunt for Alluka and Gon - as much as it pains me to say this- would kinda end up being more like dead weight (since he isn't able to use Nen anymore) for Killua and her, I think it also symbolises how Killua has finally found a purpose in his life. Moreover, over the course of the Chimera Ant Arc I think he came to the realisation that friendship isn't a debt that has to be repaid, and you can see this in his interactions with Ikalgo. He always felt like he owed Gon so much just from the fact he befriended him, when he felt so unlovable and worthless. To be honest, I think he just realised that it's OKAY to grow as a person and find his own way into the world without basing his entire self worth on Gon and how useful he can be to him. They will always love each other and be friends, they just needed to go their own separate ways to find out who they are without each other and eventually reunite stronger than ever!! Personally, I find it extremely beautiful and sad at the same time. PS : If there's one thing I didn't really understand about this episode is why Togashi decided to completely remove the apology scene. It did feel a bit rushed, and it was a scene that I was personally anticipating a lot, knowing how much hurt Killua was carrying. I wish they hadn't reduced it to a "well you know you already apologised or whatever" type of thing, it kinda diminished the emotional impact of their reunion tbh.

mvri

@Isaac that's fair. First watch should definitely be subbed. @electriq the only issue I noticed was that the characters sounded a bit older at times

Harfie

I think togashi's health problems can affect why some of these threads tend to hang or get simply rushed (or alternatively he's just not that interested in more detailed interpersonal drama). It's definitely a missed opportunity to not address how gon treated killua during the ant arc or even any real feelings about killing pitou as they mentioned. Not even a brief inner thought or anything to reference it. And then even gon's apology to killua also just feels very light. Almost like the story didn't take it that seriously as well. Like there was a strong set up in the CA arc for a more profound fracturing of their relationship and it just gets...kind of brushed over.

Veya

Might be your best one yet! Well done! The HxH shirts are a great touch

Isaac

always kills me whenever gon says “this is bad, if we stay here any longer…” they know that if they prolong this, they won’t be able to leave each other’s sides and do the things they need to do. they’re both hurting but they know they have to go their separate ways and grow as individuals 💔

Celiz Embuscado

Tbh, that would be a dealbreaker for me. I'd swap vote to Monster :P It's a selfish choice, but I haven't seen Haikyuu before, so I would prefer subbed

Isaac

So cool! really nice art

ridleymon

the dub for haikyuu is horrible tbh. they literally all sound like the same character except for hinata and bokuta

electriq

I think you're underselling what Nakama means, while Tomodachi might be more affectionate or special he definitely wasn't just calling Killua a work acquaintance lol

HeavenlyR

Also, if Haikyuu ends up winning the poll, I was wondering how everyone feels about them watching the dubbed instead of the subbed version? I would usually prefer subbed but Haikyuu can often have multiple conversations happening at once, and you'll have dialogue at the top and important game explanations at the bottom. The comedy can be very quick too, so if they're busy reading subs and trying to understand explanations it might make it harder for them to enjoy. Plus, the dub has it's own charm and humour.

Harfie

I have so much to say about Killua and Gon's goodbye and the way their friendship ends on the show...but for now I'm just going to sit in the corner and cry

Wallas

ohhhh my goooood

LM Reactions

It feels like yesterday when you guys were so excited to meet Killua! The ending is so bittersweet :(

Harfie

i agree with you

LM Reactions

The sadness in their smiles 💔😖 I think the biggest consequence of Gon’s behavior was it’s impact on Killua and their friendship The opening of the episode feels like a perfect bow to the series, a former killer (Koala Ant) turning his life around and devoting it to Kite feels like a parallel to Killua and Gon

space colon

Kalluto's main thing seems to be that he wants to be noticed so maybe Killua doesn't think of him much at all? Definitely a lot of potential for a very interesting story with Kalluto.

Shivering King Banana

I agree that this episode is not as satisfying as it could be for Gon and Killua. I don't think either of them were really ready to deal with what happened during the Chimera Ant Arc and so they just kinda brush it off. I'm hoping that somewhere along the line there's a reunion between them in the manga where they properly mend their relationship. It's one of the many things with this show that I'm not entirely sure how to feel about given that I don't know where the story is going in the manga.

しゅうじょ

Kinda funny that Killua never once mentioned Kalluto, always wondered what Killua thinks of him

Gabe

in a way i feel the brevity of gon and killua’s adventure makes their friendship more beautiful, that in such a short time they changed each other forever. maybe they were 2 ships passing in the night or maybe they’re fated to meet again, either way it was special

Sebastian

Yeah you should definitely start to read the manga, for a full immersion together with Kurapika, the best character 😌😌😌😌😌

Achraf mizmizi

I think I'm going to prolong it, don't watch this now so it doesn't end...

Wallas

Here's a little tribute I made to celebrate the longest journey this channel has seen so far! https://i.imgur.com/j6ubYkX.png I got inspired by the final picture in the end credits 😄

HenryM

I don’t think I’ve ever been more emotional watching a anime than watching that ending montage. Killua and Gon are just the two best boys in any show. I wish we got a thousand episodes of just filler between them.

Cole

I was about to repost this for you if you didn't lol. As someone who has only seen the anime as of now, that chapter with Gon really gave me a better sense of closure for him than he got in the anime.

しゅうじょ

There's a couple pieces of information I think you guys would like to know here at the end. For ep 147, a translation thing. The entire show, Gon calls Killua his best friend using the word Tomodachi (Special/Close Friend). But at the end of 147, when he says "We'll always be friends" he uses the word Nakama (Co-worker, teammate, comrade, acquaintance). Togashi is very particular about the words he uses so this was definitely intentional on having Gon refer to Killua this way before they go their separate ways. I won't go further on what it means because I'm more curious about your thoughts on how their relationship ends up. -- This one is after 148. In the Manga, Gon has a short conversation that's essentially his final thoughts about Ging that I know you girls might want to read. It has no spoilers for the later manga story. (Right to left) https://i.imgur.com/rpuJjWa.png or https://pixhost.to/show/37/489663736_gonch345.png Hope one of those links works.

Is it too late to request for a re-react of Hunter x Hunter lol I don’t want this to end…

Good thumbnail choice. I expected to be this scene :)
