Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End 1x02 Reaction

Help why is ep.1 locked 🥹

As a non English native speaker, this would confuse more haha; let’s them re name the characters as Bertolto if necessary

Omar O

The manga currently has a little over 130 chapters, the first season has adapted the first 60 chapters and theoretically Chapter 119 is a perfect finale for Season 2. So there is enough material.

Robert H.

The manga has gone more into action, and the last chapters released even dwelved into political thriller territory

Jesús Montemayor

Considering the amount of actual shorts shows that people wanted, frieren shouldn't have been an option in my opinion. The girls put it in this slot because a lot of people have been recommended it but they said it themselves that it wasn't a short show at all. That was why I was against it, not because I think older animes are better. Sure, few people may have said it but I think that in general, people just wanted the older animes to have their chance too.

sakurabraus

thanks 🙏🏻 i will edit it.

Jay

I also want a second season soon haha. I could see this show going 4-5 seasons honestly but I’m not sure how much further the manga is than the anime. I wonder if there’s even enough content to adapt.

Kaycee

Fern should be ( fair - n ).

Robert H.

Agreed, and the fact it was literally episode 2 😭 The anime is such a fantastic adaptation

wing-yi

Totally get reserving judgement until the story is finished, but I think Freiren is about the destination and not the journey, so it’s already in my 3x3

My Toasty Toast

Yup, and the same thing happened with S1 of Vinland Saga. In fact, I've noticed that more anime are dropping double or triple episode premieres in recent years (like Suicide Squad ISEKAI). That, or the first episode has a longer run time (like the Fate series, or the upcoming Re:Zero S3).

Merfhew

Agreed, but who knows how long that will be. I know we should focus on the journey instead of the wait, but I really want a second season soon. 😅

Merfhew

@Wallas - I think you're kinda exaggerating. The comments I read from people who wanted LM to watch something else weren't opposed to Frieren because the show is newer. There were a few folks who said Frieren was boring, which is a notion I can't relate to (although their opinions are just as valid as ours), but the other opinions I heard felt reasonable. Some people wanted LM to hold off on Frieren until later to spare them the painful wait for new episodes that everyone else is dealing with. Other people simply preferred a different show to Frieren, which doesn't mean they felt Frieren is a bad show. It isn't unusual to see people requesting other shows when it comes time for LM to start a new series. So long as they're being respectful, I see no issue with that. If there were people saying Frieren shouldn't be watched because it's bad, or if people were downplaying Frieren by knocking it for being a newer anime, I missed those comments. I have to assume that was a very small minority of people. Like, maybe one or two people max.

Merfhew

I’m a little late but here is a comment I saw somewhere earlier on how to pronounce the names, hope this helps. Frieren is pronounced ( Free - Ren ) Heiter is pronounced ( High - ter ) Fern is pronounced ( Fair - n ) As in Being Fair and then you add the N Eisen is pronounced ( I - Zin ) The letter i and then the word zin And as for Himmel you’re already saying his name right so yeah no need for corrections lol

Sergeant Jay

The show uses german as inspiration behind the words/names... so if you are ever in doubt about pronunciation look toward the german way. Like frieren just means freeze or cold... like her personality

n

That was the moment that did me in during my first watch. Plenty of emotional scenes in this series, but that one really struck me

Isaac

I have cried so much during these first two episodes. Especially after losing both my parents these past two years it really hits home how life is so short and fleeting. It’s still beautiful and healing. 🪻🥲

Ken Drummer

I didn't expect to tear up so much when I first saw the scene of her seeing the flowers! Glad you two are enjoying it already, the journey only gets better 🥰

wing-yi

Frieren is pronounced as FREE-REN, i was thinking it would be pronounced as FRY-REN based on how the spelling has "i" in it before i started watching the show. Whenever lola says FREE-EREN, it just keeps reminding of AOT lol.

Aglio Olio

I see, thank you.

Harfie

I’d advise to watch episode 4. The first 4 were meant to be watched together and that episode gives more insight into what the main plot will be. Some arcs will have more action than others but I think most of the vibes are cozy comfy. I’m an anime only so I’m not sure how it’s going in the manga currently.

Kaycee

After hearing so much high praise about it here on patreon, I watched the first 3 episodes of Frieren. I’m just curious, does the plot ever pick up at any point? Will there be a strong central goal? Or will it continue being this cozy, mellow character exploration vibe?

Harfie

Personally, I've been against Frieren because there are a few more seasons to come and it has an extreme amount of characters that are easy to forget in 2 to 3 years of waiting for the next season. The show itself is of course great though and exactly what they love in a story.

Robert H.

The reason why the studio released 4 episodes at once is simply because of how Japanese anime releases work. These still start on TV and are then released on the streaming platforms. But the TV slots are limited. What's more, anime are always released in batches: January-March (winter), April-June (spring), July-September (summer), October-December (fall). If you want to buy a TV slot, you have to use it for a whole period of time (12/13 episode slot). In the case of Frieren, they bought a slot, but for the first broadcast they bought the 3 slots afterwards from another purchaser, which allowed them to release the whole first season with 28 episodes in two time periods without having to buy a whole 12/13-episode slot from another time period. At the same time, the first 4 episodes were produced as one movie and then split up for the streaming platforms. As a result, episodes stop in the middle of scenes.

Robert H.

I can already tell that once we get to the end of the entire story it’s going to feel so rewarding. It’s going to be such a heartfelt journey.

Kaycee

I remember web scraping some stuff on MAL and saw this on number 1 on some category. Did it give it much thought. Then one day I decided to watch it and it was amazing. It is definitely Vinland Saga, HxH and Steins; Gate level IMO.

David Salazar

The exact reaction I hoped you would have to this show. It's shocking to me that some people here tried to diminish this anime just because it's new, as if old and classic anime were necessarily better just because they were old, a ridiculous point of view...

Wallas

Frieren is a great show. I hope Season 2, 3 and 4 come quickly. 28 Episodes are not enough!

Robert H.

Not sure I've ever been so affected by a show a mere 2 episodes in. What a beautiful start to a story

Max Carter

This show is about Death, grief and life. In the most beautiful way portrayed. I really loved this experience.

Arcturus

I knew you would be enjoying it but its still awesome to hear. Its just a mood

Unholy

I'm still at the start of the video so I don't know if this explanation will still be helpful in any way but "elf" and "mage" are not the same thing, it's like saying "human" and "warrior". "Elf" is just a classification in terms of what she is as a living being while "mage" is a classification in terms of what she specializes in, which is magic. So being a human and a mage at the same time is totally possible, you don't necessarily need to be an elf. Hope it helped clarify things a bit!

Aris

Anime of the year. Such a positive healing series. Such a wonderful soothing experience that feels extremely valuable in this time.

Mra Keung

love how the passage of time is depicted in this show. frieren being able to re experience her journey seeing the echoes and ripples of it is so beautiful

Sebastian

The Halsey reference lmaoo

Maria Connell

Great reaction happy you girls are enjoying this masterpiece

Jarvis Fowlkes

Yeah I watched it with my husband a few months ago and we both completely fell in love with it and got emotional several times. It skyrocketed up to his favorite anime (definitely up there for me, but I don't want to give it that statement until the story is over haha).

cosmotron

Glad that you watched the first four episodes! This was my favorite anime airing this year in the winter. Nothing else coming out for the rest of the year could top it for me.

My Toasty Toast

Frieren healing us and tugging our heartstrings every episode, while also making us contemplate life adn the passage of time is why I love this show sm. Glad you guys are loving it so far!

halfeldian

and now they’re gonna retrace the steps of those 10 years.. no, i will die

LM Reactions

Frieren left, so Sadly Himmel couldn’t take her to see those flowers when he was alive, but now at least he was able to take her when he was dead, such a bittersweet moment. Frieren didn’t think much about those ten years she spent with them do to the way she views time, but once Himmel died, that’s when she started to have regrets and realized how precious those mere 10 years were to her.

Jay

Knew you would feel that way. Can't wait for you to experience the rest of it. <3

cosmotron

im watching this tomorrow after work I CANT WAIT TO BALL MY EYES OUT WITH YOU GUYS

Lau

Glad to hear you've watched the other 2!
