Komugi has Nen. All humans have Nen. Remember in the York New arc, when Gon and Killua were able to see residual Nen on items created by highly skilled crafters. Komugi's Nen potential was realized under the constant pressure of playing against the King, she got an ability to come up with amazing and novel new Gungi moves.

I agree too. It has some absolutely jaw dropping payoff and moments but it has a ton of fat that could be shaved off and certain stretches that I consider straight up bad. The most notable being the Knuckle/Shoot training plot in the middle of the arc; the nen exposition was at its worst (in the anime), Palm was unbearable, the return of Bisky was unnecessary, the training itself was just boring nen stuff, the forced tension/drama of Killua leaving Gon, the fights are boring, the Palm date, the needle, the visuals and aesthetic and atmosphere weren't good etc etc . Just a really uninteresting and bizarre stretch that unfortunately lowers my opinion on the arc despite it genuinely being amazing in the last 20ish episodes.

I agree actually. I think the Yorknew City arc is clear. This arc is good obviously but I think the pacing is not the best and at least in the 2011 version, Gon's connection to Kite is not built up enough for the payoff to hit as hard as it probably should imo.

I can see where you're coming from if you really just don't care about the characters that aren't really part of the main crew, or if you also don't care for all the bits of world building; as while they add to why some things develop as they do, they didn't have to be mentioned. With that said, for me, not only do I love every character and what they represent; but it also makes the world feel much more alive, and the decisions and development of every character comes into play without feeling cheap or convenient.

On the first viewing when I didn't know where Ikalgo's and Welfin's story would go I also felt like the show was dragging. But on the rewatch knowing how great their stories are made me realize there really wasn't a single wasted episode. Sometimes I feel they linger on a specific moment too long, like Ikalgo crying but that's really the only pacing problems I see.

I can’t lie rewatching this arc, especially weekly how it was supposed to be consumed has made me realise it’s not AS good as first perceived. It’s still very good with great writing & moments but there’s a lot left to be desired with a lot of episodes & you can “feel” the age of this arc. Same way pacing of Naruto & Bleach arcs have aged “poorly” same can be said for HxH arcs & that’s not a bad thing necessarily it’s just a product of its time

Palm doesn't know that the king lost his memory and her assumption on why he captured Knuckle and Meleoron is partially wrong (she thinks king can't distinguish people with his En). The king can clearly see the people with his En, it's true that he couldn't see what she was carrying in her back but if he remembered Komugi he would have captured them first

Is there one thing I can appreciate about this arc regardless of my own issues I have with it is the how the themes of humanity and what does being a human actually means are presented. Sure is not something new in any media but in the context of this show and how Togashi went about it, is something I don’t see many shounens do.

Poufs reaction of shock and disbelief at seeing Youpi dead was quite sad to me. Just how quiet a scene it is. I also appreciate seeing his growing desperation to find Pitou, by the end he is totally panicked. Realising that she may also be dead if it was possible to kill Youpi, and that he is the last Royal Guard left. These next two episodes are gonna be something else.
