In episode 108, the king asks them what his name is, and their answers all reveal how they interpret his wishes. Pouf declares him King, Youpi says the question is beyond his capacity, and Pitou says what matters most are King's feelings. They all believe they are doing what's best for the king, but it creates so much tension when these powerful beings disagree on what needs to be done (for example, whether Komugi should live).

He goes really in depth into each royal guard character and how groundbreaking this entire thing is and how much you two align and/or expand further. That's just how good the writing and this story is

Yeah it's very, very strange but Pouf and Youpi are basically fulfilling their single reason for existence beyond their wildest dreams. I think the sexual undertones (overtones?) are important because for the royal guard, who don't reproduce, nourishing the King with their own bodies is closest analogue to sex they have.
