It's not quite black and white though. Deida was convinced/manipulated by the mirror that killing Boji would prevent a civil war in the future because as long as his big brother is alive there will be people that believe he was the true successor. So, there was a "logical" reason to do it, as despicable as it was.

The scene starts with Daida saying he has thought long and hard on something and must do what is best for the kingdom and in the previous episode the mirror said leaving Bojji alive could lead to civil war. Its up for debate but I think Daida deserves less sympathy than Thomas if he gave the order.

2024-02-02 22:30:01 +0000 UTCNo shame. I couldn't wait any longer the other day and devoured the Frieren manga. Simply a great story. I'm curious to see if it will still be ahead of Fullmetal Alchemist at #1 on MAL this summer. When the recency bias has passed, most anime will drop in the ranking.

2024-02-02 22:01:05 +0000 UTCDomas really is a character like many others who are incredibly complex. Queen Hilling and King Daida are also very multifaceted. When I first watched Ranking of Kings, I didn't expect Daida to reject the power that the mirror said the potion would give him, because his trainer Bebin taught him that the path is also crucial to maturing and growing in the process. In my opinion, the author and the anime did everything right with the beginning. And I still hope that they print the faces of characters :D I'm really a bit ashamed that even after my rewatch I couldn't draw the connection between two characters/stories and accidentally read it in the wiki when I wanted to find out where a story took place.

But yes, like many things, it remains in the unknown. And think back to episode 3: What happened when the king died?
