https://youtu.be/0Cd02-3n9XY?si=DzJApqHmW5udX1cJ its titled "Ranking TV Shows". timestamp 51:40.. and rewatching it to get all the info for ya, i never realized how much Milena was soooo against watching this show by any means... so i couldn't've be happier that she had to eat her words. and im sure 1000s of others are as well.. but like you said, its a life changing show.. next time you see a high ranking officer with "dope on the table" can you really take it seriously? or the same when a politician is giving a "heartfelt" speech about serious issues? and many other situations that i just find myself laughing in disbelief.

Do you remember what video it was?

Marlo was indeed smart. Haters ( silly, naive ppl ) of Marlo never mention the age difference between Marlo ( 22 ), Stringer and Avon ( thirties ) and Prop Joe ( fifties ) . Avon was a pure, unadulterated moron. Factoring in age, Marlo was definitely smarter than that idiot Avon.

Iamgreat Now

I agree. And I didn't know that about Jamie Hector.

marlo is one of the realest depictions of sociopath on TV imo... he doesn't really relate to other people but can see the patterns in their behavior and manipulate it very well PS its fitting that jamie hector had in mind a CEO of a big company when playing Marlo - an occupation with a disproportionately large percent of psychopaths/sociopaths

Yes he may only have one demension and I personally don't really like one demensional characters but I actually don't mind that with him. I think I like his ruthlessness so much that it makes up for it. Maybe that's what it is I'm not exactly sure but I've always liked the character. I definitly like how he figures out things i.e the scene when Avon tried to send the girl, but he figured out it was a set up and smoked her. Things like that.

daron85

Eh, but as far as villains goes he's relatively one dimensional compared to avon and stringer. Yes he's ruthless but he's not too fleshed out and feels more like a symbol of street ruthlessness than a full character. Again, relatively speaking. The greek is kind of the same way.

Veya

To each his own. I disagree in some of that but I still respect your opinion.

daron85

I don't know anyone who actually likes Marlo. He's not even that smart, he's just ruthless. The fact that other people like Stringer or Prop Joe underestimate him is down to their naivete, not his intelligence. His villainy is interesting, sure, but he is predictable in that way and that's what makes him entertaining.

Marlo Stanfield's "My Name is My Name" is a memorable quote from the series. I know y'all hate Marlo but in terms of villainy you have to admit he is really good. Evil as shit, but really smart. Nobody likes a dumb villain. He really challenged the detectives and a lot of other people. He's also very interesting. He doesn't really have a likeable trait, which is rare and risky in creating a villain, yet you still like him. You like watching how he operates. How he moves in silence. How he thinks. At least I do.

a long time ago i saw an old video of yours from MANY years ago where you two ranked the best shows tier list. and the wire came up. i remember your words in response to it being called an all time best show, were something to the effect of "who cares. were never going to watch it anyways".. well not only did you watch it, but you connected enough with it to feel the full effect of this emotional roller coaster. and i dont think i am the only one who is happy you did, and looking forward to the bitter sweet finale/review..

Great article highlighting the legacy of the show and its depiction of Baltimore (including stats that show The Wire went wayyy to easy on the cops) https://www.baltimoremagazine.com/section/artsentertainment/the-wire-twenty-years-later/ Also as far as wins, Massachusetts just got an extra Billion every year for their fiscal budget because of a 4% tax on millionairesย  Just HALF of this is enough to give free breakfasts and lunches to kids who need them in Public Schools Imagine what the 15% tax on billion dollar corporations is gonna offer if it sticks around and members of both parties don't keep trying to kill it ๐Ÿฅฒ https://www.businessinsider.com/massachusetts-millionaire-tax-gets-kids-free-school-lunches-2023-8
