I couldn't wait and I finished watching the series yesterday. That ending was....interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing their thoughts on it.

go on his twitter account, i mean i knew he was weird when he complained about getting a ticket for speeding in a school area lmao but like right after that he went full on pro genocide out of left field, finding out he’s a zionist was disappointing especially considering how much i loved generation kill and it’s about the invasion of iraq so it feels kinda weird now

brillant work from him, just like “generation kill” absolutely amazing, but me personally i have trouble listening to this man after he went on a tangent explaining how bombing children is somehow more humane than killing them irl. he created some of my favorite shows of all time, but still plays a major part in the same systems of oppression he’s denouncing. i believe that’s important to know as well.

Watching the trial scenes has reminded me of another great show L&M could watch - The People vs OJ Simpson: American Crime Story. It's only ten episodes long and a really well done show.

This video (David Simon on Why He Created The Wire) is also excellent. He doesn't mention a single storyline or character, he just talks about the issues: and it works, because the show and its real-world themes are one in the same. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYXNdELqCe4&pp=ygULRGF2aWQgc2ltb24%3D

Finally I would like to reiterate that the final two episodes are some of my favourite from the season. The finale might actually be my favourite episode from the whole show, strange as that might be. It feels 3 hours long and I mean that in the best way possible. I fucking love season 5, even with its flaws I get so much out of it. This show is every bit as enjoyable as it is important. I'll be recommendeding it to people as the 'greatest tv documentary ever made even though it's technically a drama-fiction' for years to come. It reminds me of chess, in that it seems to offer an seemingly endless amount of depth the longer one spends with, and as such one's enjoyment is limited only by their willingness to explore further. And having just written that sentence I remembered that they literally talk about chess in the show lmao, I swear it was an independent thought 😅 Guess it's just how Lester says, "all the pieces matter"...

A couple weeks back one of the patrons posted Simon's lecture 'The Audacity Of Desair' citing it as a must watch. I got the chance to look at it today and they weren't kidding. Simon is intimidatingly smart, even for a professional journlist/writer he's exceptionally articulate. What a terrific creator.

Only getting the chance to post this now. Here's Charlie Brooker (creator of Black Mirror) hosting a special segment praising The Wire. It was made as Season 5 was being shot, and has cast interviews too! It's a total blast to see them all discussing the show whilst being so young

OK, you've watched episode 8 by the time you'll see this comment. We'll talk about "that moment" soon. A truly great TV character....
Really looking forward to seeing your reaction to the FBI's profile analysis of Jimmy's "serial killer". 😂😂
Btw, it's worth noting the season finale is over 90 minutes long so bring your popcorn... and tissues. I think it was (and might still be) the longest episode of an HBO show.

When I first watched this season there was a TV blog in The Guardian newspaper (UK) in which people would post comments about The Wire. At the time I said this episode - especially the ending - felt like the calm before the storm...
I was surprised when Omar killed Savino because for a man who's always strapped with a gun it's actually rare to see him kill people - Stinkum (S1), Stringer (S3) and now Savino. You may not remember Savino from S1 - he was the guy in the car with Kima and Orlando before they were shot and killed respectively.
Trivia: this episode was directed by Dominic West (aka McNulty).

Okay, I posted about it on the previous episode reaction, but I figured I'll keep doing it until the end. This is me pitching those who are undecided - or to Lola and Milena if they don't go with a poll - why Black Sails should be the next show they watch. Most of this I wrote out in a previous comment, but I've edited/added a bit as well.
So, what is Black Sails, and why should it be next? Let me tell you.
Black Sails is set during the end of the Golden Age of Piracy, and follows the characters struggling to survive within it.
It is also, in my opinion, one of the most underrated shows out there. It started coming out during the heyday of Game of Thrones, and so it ended up slipping past a lot of people’s radars. Speaking of, if you're someone who liked Game of Thrones for its complex characters, plotting, and being a story with consequences, then Black Sails is for you. It has excellent writing, dialogue, acting, direction, music, and it uses practical effects with CGI to great effect. It’s also filmed on location in Cape Town South Africa, so it always looks beautiful to boot. If you’re someone who loves and fears the ocean, this series captures that feeling very well.
What else does Black Sails have that Lola and Milena (as well as my fellow patrons) would enjoy?
Well it has layered and complex characters who often make the wrong choices and yet you can’t help but root for them anyway. Whenever conflicts arise you’ll be torn because you’ll like characters on all sides of it. The cast is also an ensemble, and there are several really wonderful female characters that get in depth arcs and lots of time to shine. It’s exciting and the plot never stops, but it also always takes its time to have slower character moments as well.
Black Sails is also a show where it’s themes are vital to the story it is telling, and those themes are present on the very first episode. Choices that characters make will ripple out through the rest of the story - everything they do matters and has consequences.
While the show is often dark/violent and largely serious, it can also be extremely funny. It’s not afraid to make you laugh, but it never undercuts the serious situations.
That's my zero spoilers pitch. For those who might want a bit more detail, here’s more in ROT13.

I’ve mentioned in previous comments about the show that there are some content warnings to keep in mind before checking it out. It can be quite violent, and it deals with the sexism/racism/homophobia that was present in the time period. I do also have to give a warning about sexual assault. This is the only one I’ll go into detail on in ROT13.

I like where Kima is ending up, though I wish we'd seen more of her story before we got to this point. Bubs's story continues to make me very emotional, and I really like him connecting with this Sun reporter (especially since it's not Scott lol). It's also nice to have this as a contrast *to* Scott and how he does his 'reporting'.
I really liked the scene going back and forth between Daniels and Gus, with them both giving out orders to their teams.
I tend to agree with your feelings on Jimmy. It really feels like there's no way back from this, and I appreciate the scene where Kima is with one of the victims (because they have become Jimmy's victims) parents to make it clear that what he is doing is having a much larger impact. Of course, it's more than clear this wasn't something he ever thought through: just look at how ill equipped he is to handle all the help now being offered to him. And he literally says that it's "getting bigger" than he thought, as if he didn't go out of his way to sensationalize the "murders" for this purpose.
I mentioned it in a comment on the full reaction, but I have finished the show now! Some ROT13 thoughts below.
