The guy who was with Omar that died in the apartment shootout is who the character Omar is based on. He was the real “Omar” in Baltimore.

One thing, the number Ronda put down on the paperwork is NOT Marlo's, it's the fake number attributed to the serial killer. Officially, they don't even have Marlo's number. Their plan is that the serial killer doesn't call, but they use the wire to listen in on Marlo's phonecalls.

@TeaDrinker3000 Small correction, but I don't think he was elected PM. His party got the most seats, but since they're far from a majority, they'll have to try to find coalition partners. Whether or not they'll be able to form government remains to be seen, according to the few articles I've read (I'm no expert). But yeah, definitely another country drifting further to the political right.

I meant that with "strong shift to the right" 😅

@Robert I'm surprised you didn't even mention the fact that a far-right PM was elected in the Netherlands yesterday as well.

Which just occurred to me, because politics has been discussed: Naoki Urasawa's (author of Monster) manga PLUTO was recently adapted into 8 x 60 minutes episodes by Netflix. It deals with the Iraq war, motivations for war, human rights and racism in general in a sci-fi setting. Could perhaps be interesting for the 1 x week slot for anime in the future.

In the European Union and around the world, everything seems to be going completely crazy. Italy has elected a neo-fascist party, Sweden and Finland have left the government to the right-wing populists, in the last few days Argentina and the Netherlands have experienced a strong shift to the right and in Germany the Corruption Party and the right-wing populists have a secure majority in polls in almost all federal states and nationwide. France looks very bad politically too at the moment, although elections are not due there for another 4 years. If the trend in the USA remains as it is at present, the next few years could be quite difficult.

Fake News rn, Elon Musk is trying to stoke the Pizzagate conspiracy (it claims Hundreds of Democratic leaders are pedophiles).
Several news papers and channels have claimed it to be true or shared about the conspiracy despite it having lead to multiple public shootings
Also one of the people we see homeless was one of the more prominent dock workers from season 2, I’m glad Frank didn’t have to see how badly he ruined so many lives…

@Damien I agree with you. The distinction is important, however I'm very wary of the narrative being limited to "look at what these *scumbags* did", because it wasn't merely scumbags. The much more pertinent issue here is racism, anti-immigration, and again the far-right who will always hide the mask behind "wanting to protect this country". It's been building momentum for so long now, and amidst the backdrop of the worst police-funding the state has ever seen before, I don't think it's jumping to conclusions to say that this is just the beginning. They were organised, politically motivated, and completely willing to use as much violence as possible. Yes, the opportunistic scumbags comprised a significant portion of those doing damage, but tonight reflects that there is a real, undeniable presence of well-organised racism within this country.

You have my sympathies. My own country has faced a similar history of emigration, yet violence often arise fueled by xenophobia and racism. It seems there's hardly any place exempt from these "ideologies"

Saw that dickhead Conor McGregor has been spouting a load of that nonsense recently too, loads of absolute chuds in his replies supporting him. Thankfully Ireland knows better than that shite.

I am also Irish in Dublin and watched the coverage of the riots with anger and disgust. Important to emphasize that most of the perpetrators were not protesters. They were scumbags and thugs who used an earlier horrible violent attack as an excuse to loot shops, attack police, and set fire to public transport. Utterly shameful.

Given that many of the patrons here following The Wire are politically active and interested, I wanted to draw attention to the fact that there were far-right riots here tonight in Dublin Ireland. There's been an underbelly of anti-immigration rhetoric the last number of months and years, with the country getting particularly worse in the nation's capital towards POC and foreign-nationals. Following a man committing a violent act in the city who was of Eastern European descent, the city centre descended into chaos tonight, with immigration asylums and migrant hotels being lit on fire by racist thugs. You'd think the country with an extensive history of emigration (and subsequently its own discrimination) would be exempt from the plague of xenophobia and white supremacy. I'm truly ashamed of my country tonight. It's only getting worse and will only continue to get worse. I thought those of you interested in global affairs would want to be kept up to date.
