They lucked out with their timing. Indeed as good a place as any to stop a 5 episode binge. Makes up for their Attack on Titan timing which was hilariously awful.

Camzeee

Gon was genuinely happy that they had an excuse to look for Kurapika

HgPt

Don't think I will, it's the nature of HxH discourse

Isaac

What a great place to have stopped after your binge.

A

I do understand he's evil that's not my point. My point is he does evil things for what he considers good reasons. There's the saying "the path to hell is paved with good intentions". That's the path the Troupe walked and Chrollo lead them there. I think it's important to understand that the Troupe and Chrollo aren't just pure evil like Frieza or Hisoka, where they just enjoy killing.

Shivering King Banana

Milena is one of us, constantly asking for just one more episode

Gucci Pucci

Serious question. What would it take for Chrollo to do in order for you to understand that he's evil? What's your standard?

Orr Malus

Dam the next couple of episodes are peak for this arc.

David Salazar

"And saying his name is Lucifer so he's evil is such a huge oversimplification." Hahaha 😂. (spoiler warning) Too bad I've never said anything like this. He's evil because he tortured children and babies to death. Then the writer to make it perfectly clear that he's pure evil placed an inverted cross as his symbol as well as giving him the name Lucifer. Togashi: Chrollo is literally the embodiment of evil. A: I don't know. I think there's still a good side to him.

Orr Malus

That was never made clear during the Zoldyck arc it was hinted at with Silva saying he'll be back. His mother was proud but that doesn't mean it was part of her plan. A key thing about the Zoldyck family is how much they value individualism. The mom isn't following Silva's or Zeno's orders and neither is Illumi. They all work against each other towards their own goals. No one's following orders, it's survival of the fittest. The next two arcs make it clear that moral relativism is a major theme of the story. I'm gonna try and remember and call it out the episode where Gon literally says that Killua has killed way more people, so we can't execute these guys for killing people. Sometimes I think of the Troupe killing the Kurtas as using the bomb on the Japanese. Thousands died and it was horrific, but the other option could have very easily been worse. The Troupe needs the money to protect what they care about. They can either take lots of job, or a few horrific ones. And saying his name is Lucifer so he's evil is such a huge oversimplification. Yes he is evil but Togashi's goal is to make you understand why he is evil. And make the viewer question themselves whenever Gon takes what would be a normal step for a shounen protagonist. In DBZ when Gohan rages against Cell and goes super saiyan we're cheering. In HxH when Gon rages and powers up we're nervous.

Shivering King Banana

Yeah, the binge-ability of this show was one of the things I was most taken by when watching the earlier episodes (and while 50 episodes is a lot, looking back I still think of this as 'early' HXH but maybe that's just me). This arc is incredible, and I totally understand why it's so many peoples' favorite... but it's still later in the series that really elevated this to be one of my favorite stories ever told. Y'all are some of my favorite reactors easily and I have been thoroughly enjoying this. It's hard waiting so long for stuff I'm so excited for you to see but it's so worth it.

"iTs oNe Of tHe fEw"... jesus fucking christ stop that

syberkiller8

He attacked his mother as a way to placate her. She was extremely proud of him which is why she permitted him to take the Hunter exam. Learning to fight back against Ilumi and his conditioning is part of his training. This was all established during the Zoldyck arc. This was the twist of the story. Killing targets of the underworld =/= mass murder of innocent men, women, and children. It's like you're watching something completely different. The show even makes it clear that Killua is the more down to Earth character compared to Gon. There's nothing relative about Togashi's morality in Hunter x Hunter. He makes it crystal clear that the Phantom Troupe are pure evil. The leader's name is literally Lucifer and has an inverted cross as a brand as well as a mark on his forehead. You can't possibly get less subtle than that 🤣.

Orr Malus

It's one of the few I believe surpassed the '99. Good music selection and cinematography

Isaac

Yeah, I always said that would happen. However, they seem to be enjoying that format of watching(and it helps them with time), so I support it

Isaac

Next up, one of my favourite HH episodes.

Merijn

Just because he doesn't like assassin work doesn't mean he cares about the people he killed. We've seen him kill people over relatively small things and he never got upset about that. He never liked being forced to do anything. Most of the people in his family are trying to control him, both parents and at least 1 brother. Killua wants to do whatever he wants to do, that doesn't exclude killing. With so many people trying to control him of course a kid is going to run away. That's what I think Silva understood when he said that Killua would be back because he's his son. He understands Killua's rebellious faze and believes he'll come back to run the family once he understands the value of it. I don't remember him ever getting revenge for assassination victims either. He attacked his mom and brother because they were torturing him. I really have to agree with @Toildeboy comparison between Gon and the viewers. I think the upcoming villains in the GI and CA arcs make the relativism of good and evil that Togashi is trying to get across even more clear.

Shivering King Banana

Great and accurate analysis

HgPt

Your presupposition is that Killua didn't care about the people he was tasked to kill. The fact that he wanted to quit being an assassin while also taking vengeance on his family for being assassins disproves your point.

Orr Malus

in that way it parallels how us as the viewer see killua as well, just look at how many people love killua despite him having literally murdered countless people, as opposed to the troupe who have done the same thing yet everyone despises them for the exact same reason. interesting to realize the duality between that within a story like this in its characters.

Toidleboy

Fair point

Justin Spencer

If they weren't reacting I'd agree. It's pretty much kills fan interaction. It's the reason they've been calling Chrollo Cholo for 5 episodes, they haven't seen the comments when they recorded.

Shivering King Banana

5 a day for you even if we only see 1 is the correct way to watch the show keep it up ladies!

Justin Spencer

If you are already in holidays then I hope you two are enjoying your free time and having fun!

Jack SV

gon is such an interesting character. he has no moral qualms about killua being an assassin in early episodes, but now he's angry at the troupe for not caring about the people they've killed. it's very intentional characterization from togashi.

jweher

I would say just react to it right when s2 starts

T0ast

love this episodie so muuuch, gon & killua forever the besties, and the trup the besties either

Wallas

He's 12

The Phantom Troupe are some of best villains out there. Togashi does a fantastic job to ease the reader in. He reveals only a little at a time and just when you think you have a good grasp of how despicable the Phantom Troupe are you then learn a little more...

Orr Malus

Love that Gon and Killua’s friendship continues to be the highlight to them! A friendship as adorable as this: https://imgur.com/a/29MBl8T Still offering us such great moments of emotional turmoil… Togashi gives us everything we want and more I swear

space1999

Oof… hits too true… Love your behilit pfp, keep going struggler 🙏

space1999

Gon doesn't understand that even a pack of wild dogs will howl at the moon for one of their dead. And the author Togashi understands that dogs only go wild when they've been abused and abandoned by society.

Shivering King Banana

Nobunaga who? I only know Nakabusa, Nabakusa

Harfie

the cauldron is boiling hot

Jesus I forgot how great this episode is. I'm so glad y'all are also so invested in these characters that it doesn't take much to move you. The show is just packed with these little moments of character interactions that have so much impact imo.

Payam Sharifi

thats the very first time i see hisoka sweating when gon recognize him ROFL

Fernando

I second this. It's a great episode that deserves a reaction

Sahil Misra
