2023-06-06 12:19:46 +0000 UTCI think the Hisoka joke with “bungee gum has the properties of both rubber and gum”, is because he explains it like that a few times in the show and there’s no need for it, so it’s making fun of the writing a bit I think.. the way the voice actor says bungee gum is funny to me too, so I think it’s just a cheap joke😂

Imagine the strength difference now for hisoka and illuma and the rest of the people. They and the rest of the examiners all know what nen is and can use it well. Killua like you guys said was strong but imagine what level Illumi, a grown version of killua is at.

SPOILER ALERT: It's not just Gon he does this too but he also heavily flirts with Machi in the manga as well as the anime. Also acts very much the same way to Chrollo as well, and not to mention his very strange relationship with Illumi.

Him being a pedo not only makes him as threatening as possible to our child protagonists, but makes it crystal clear to audiences that this attitude is twisted and not to be celebrated. Plus as Lola said afterwards, we never see nonce villains in stuff so it's interesting by itself for that.

I swear I think the author thought to himself, "What would the scariest antagonist to my child protagonist who's seeing the world for the first time? Hisoka is important to this story, and he's incredibly entertaining, but I feel like he has his fucked up side to him so the audience wouldn't like him too much. If he wasn't a closet pedo, he would be easy to root for, but we aren't supposed to. There are other ways to make someone unlikable, but there are fewer ways to make someone detestable.

One of my favorite things about HxH is the wide variety of character motivations. I’m sure you feel the same that they’ll get so much out of the character writing and parallels and general story choices over the rest of the show Personally can’t wait for them to meet Meruem/Komugi and Gin/Pariston

2023-06-05 23:51:31 +0000 UTCyes and i dont blame them either, although they would only be seeing the "creepy" on the surface. its established quite early on Hisoka gets turned on by fighting strong opponents, and those who can become strong opponents (like Gon). its not hard to see how Gon has massive potential to be scary strong, which Hisoka sees. Hisoka would have the same obsession with him if Gon was the same age as Hisoka because of his strength and potential in the first place. definitely an interesting way to depict his crave for fighting strong opponents for sure, he's supposed to be unsettling, and is a very unique and well known character for the way he has been written. its not about him liking kids lol, just pointing that out which i know you know theres more nuance to it, but some have a harder time seeing it.

He sees Gon's potential and wants him to grow up so that he can take satisfaction/ pleasure in utterly destroying him.

Even when he’s not doing suggestive things he’s still frequently staring at Gon. I don’t blame people for not wanting to engage with a piece of fiction (even something amazing like HxH) that that has a character like that
