Character-driven plot is what HBO does incredibly well. Shows like the wire, game of thrones etc are all about the interactions between the characters and how they shape the world they're in... Also, not HBO, but sons of anarchy is great at creating a world with a rich set of characters and plot with intrigue

I think they hint at Avon and Stringer being lovers halfway through the season when they're laying down a hit on Omar. Maybe that's why they're so loyal to each other...

What makes the Wallace story hurt so much more is how inevitable it felt. Stringer obviously took the action to order the murder, but the only reason he even had the opportunity to do so was because every single adult that Wallace relied on failed. And it wasn't even due to malice or carelessness, which still would've given us an easy villain. It was oversight due to a small group of detectives being stretched beyond their means and distracted by the shooting of their colleague, and all due to the stupid orders given to them by their superiors.

I'm not sure if they've started season 2 yet so avoid comments like this. The girls and the viewers prefer when there's as little information as possible given moving forward.

I think Daniels is so annoyed with Burrell's continued attempts to shut down the case that he uses any leverage he can to force Burrell's hand. I don't think clearing himself from being prosecuted is Daniels' main motivation in that scene.

Daniels turning the tables on Burrell might feel satisfying, but you have to keep in mind what that entails: he is just clearing himself (and others in the department) from being criminally prosecuted. The same way Clay Davis warns about the consequences of going after political figures, Daniels knows that because of the public backlash he is off the hook and uses that to his personal advantage. And it is really hard to investigate internally in the police department anyway, so the implications of that scene are troubling to say the least.

Yea that's what I try to remind myself of when seeing the decisions that they make, that any position they put Bodie or Poot or even D'Angelo into, they themselves have already been put into by someone else. But it certainly doesn't excuse them or absolve them of any of it. Wallace was one of the hardest pills for me to swallow just because of how cold Stringer was about the whole thing and how he sent children to do it, but he doesn't look at them as children and that's why it was so easy for him to give them that order. I wish I could have gotten at least just ONE scene of Stringer and Avon feeling bad, but that wouldn't have been in character for them so I understand but it would have helped me to forgive them a little.

I just want to say, spoiler free, the beginning of season 2 may catch you off guard but it will be worth it. It did for me and I think 2 is just as good as 1, its just different. Like 1, it starts slow and then builds to another great story. All the pieces matter.

Appreciate LM helping to explain why they aren’t super in love with Stringer and Avon. They still haven’t had a lot of scenes at this point. As much as I personally like them as characters (often wanna root for the street characters over the shitty police) I’m with you in feeling like there’s so much awfulness from them that I can’t forgive All of it is done so casually too… Stringer absolutely taking advantage of Bodie, I’m sure he’s had talks like this dozens of times

WALLACE!!! He didn't deserve that at all, but honestly... the moment he dropped Stringer's name to McNulty, I knew it was over for him. There's just certain names you don't bring up and Stringer's is one of them. Also the police department heavily failed him because someone should have been making trips to go see him everyday until the trial, they dropped the ball and Wallace paid the price. While I knew it was coming, I certainly didn't expect Stringer to put Poot and Bodie on it, CHILDREN, but this was like their official initiation into the crew and unfortunately that's how you get initiated. While I love Stringer and Avon, this is one thing I couldn't forgive them for.

I think two things can be true. They have committed an awful crime but at the same time they are victims of their environment. They’re children raised to believe that this is what needs to be done if they want to live and make money. You see how Poot and Wallace live day to day, they have no adults in their life supporting them in anyway and no stability of any kind. Like Lola and Milena said they are being exploited

That’s true, I guess I’m sort of put off by the age difference and the fact that he was in a position where he was influencing her decisions (even talking with Kima about her being the girl who looked like they could “break” most easily). She did agree to do everything but I guess him being the one to show her her friend’s body and trying so hard to turn her and encourage her to help in the investigation made me uncomfortable. But I agree that there were pieces put in place to establish a connection outside of all of that

I don't think the phrase "toxic masculinity" was being used in 2002, but I definitely think that's part of what David Simon was getting at with these last two episodes. Both the "dope on the table" and Wallace were justified with appeals to ego and manhood. It's a timeless show.

Absolutely. I just finished re-watching Season 2 today with my Mom, it's her first time watching the show. She thinks it's the best show she's ever seen, more than Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul.

I disagree with you about Lester and Shardene because she seemed to be into him from the beginning too. During their first conversation about his miniatures, I think she sensed kindness in him which is probably what she wanted after being caught up with the brutality of D's world. I also don't think Lester had too much power over her. Unlike Bubs who often needed Kima's money, Shardene was earning her own money.

We all love Lester but the relationship with Shardene is uncomfortable considering the power imbalance... Love Daniels, this episode is devastating to watch but seeing him not take any shit from the Commissioner or Senator Clay Davis was a bright spot.  Baltimore has a particularly bad history with corrupt city officials, including a recent mayor who faced jail time.
