So far: 401 Unauthorized: It's about Elliot no letting himself grieve for Angela, and also everybody being constrained, literally or figuratively, from Dom with Dark Army to Elliot caught in the Garcin trap. 402 Payment Required: A reference to the mother's safe deposit box which was thrown away because no payment arrived for it for two years. 403 Forbidden: Whiterose's backstory

From Tyrells desperation for acceptance and obsession with Elliot, to Vera (which I'll skim over the details for now as this show is about to deliver some magic), to Leon's love for Elliot. As well as Whiteroses obsession with Elliot too.

Now years later as an openly queer person, I find myself empathising with her more and more on each rewatch. Her methods are monstrous and things she's done are unforgiveable. But I think everyone who has felt like they didn't belong be it trans, gay or other has fantasized about living in a world where everyone is accepted and everyone gets a chance at happiness. And the kicker is that with all the control, power and money she accrued, she could have significantly improved the world around her, but instead chooses to channel it all into her project. For an antagonist that easily could have slipped into offensive caricature (especially played by a cis actor) Whiterose is complex and interesting. I hope we get more well written trans characters who are allowed to be imperfect, villainous even, without using tired stereotypes. I forgot the Olivia stuff was going to happen this episode. The whole scene is so cute. Mr Robot is the ultimate wingman and I love seeing him like this. Elliot's scenes with Olivia are great and it's nice to see our boy be happy and connect with someone. A vision of what could be. Final shoutout to my boy Tyrell for being so excited about his new job he breaks into his boyfriend's apartment and starts yelling as loudly as possible all their secret plans. There are no brain cells left in this man's head and I'm here for it.

Sheβs trying to do what she can to keep herself going and for her kid.. and she seems genuinely sweet, decent and opens up to him. The scene with the pill bottleβ¦ itβs a lot. In another time it seems like they could maybe even be good for each other.

2023-03-11 02:13:51 +0000 UTCI love the start of this ep bc Whiterose of all characters has remained more mysterious and less developed across the series, which was a bit of a shame bc "Chinese official who's secretly a closeted trans leader of a hacker cult" is one of the most unique character concepts I've ever seen. And this episode puts her into full context. Her, Elliot, even Angela all exist because of the failings of society, but one could argue that because Elliot's dad and Angela's mom working on the Washington Township plant and her involvement in the Deus Group, WR has BECOME the failings of society. It's compelling stuff
