It's doubly funny to me because Elliot goes to a terminal and loads up Kibana which is a tool I used at previous jobs that still gives me nightmares. It's just so funny seeing Elliot totally mis-judge the situation, take the L and pivot, and boot up Kibana in browser to check status - Edie reminds me much of the many women who came up in tech in 80s/90s and survived and are still kicking ass today

Someone like Edie working somewhere like that has probably been there for a very long time, and has more experience than anyone else in that room. Elliot completely misjudged that situation.

There are actually over 40 hidden cuts, some of them with CGI. When the camera pans outside of the building the whole exterior is CG. With some transitions they had to digitally recreate the scene to merge two shots together. Really cool stuff.

Leading up to the episode, there was talk that this one was going to be different, be special in some way, and I believe we knew there wouldn't be any commercial breaks. The community figured it out pretty quickly and I had seen this feasible theory that the episode would be filmed in one take, or rather one shot/cut to be more accurate. When the episode started it was honestly exhilirating; the possibility of this being true was increasingly likely the longer the camera held and I realized it was going to actually happen. The title, the static in the sound, and Elliot realizing something is off are all a perfect utilization of the show breaking the wall to achieve memorable narrative idiosyncrasies. And everything about it creates this looming sense of building tension. I love that we watch the situation go from a regular office day to a chaotic riot ending with Elliot confronting Angela -- all in real time. It adds to the immersion and pushes the plot events into focus so much that it can't be described as anything lesser than a whole event.

This emergency distraction was necessary because of the steps Elliot has taken, he's made it so that they need a security certificate that can only be generated in a proper way. So it had to be done there and on that hardware.

2023-02-12 04:44:39 +0000 UTCPortia Doubleday (Angela) is such a good actress, she no longer does acting as she quit after her finale role in 2020 as she decided to study Neurological Science which is quite the shift from acting. - This episode is a prime example of speculator acting / character portrayal, so from a fan perspective it's really unfortunate that she's quit acting because she's superb - but then again she's essentially left her acting career on a high as she pursues her own interests (neurology) which I still think is cool.

It reminds me of the movie “rope” by Hitchcock also made that way…of course in those times cameras were like a big piano and the tapes they were filming were of course analog… they could only make 10 minutes top on one take…really challenging and funny to see how they manage, like all the furniture in the movie has wheels so the could move it around to make room for the camera and things like that. Quite amazing

When people talk about the quality of Mr Robot as a whole show, this is definitely one of those standout episodes that stays with you. 5 episodes into S3 and you can feel that this is something special - the vision is singular, the tension palpable and more than anything else it just feels like the whole crew, the cast, the editors, the audio, everyone is having tons of fun making compelling television. I guess I'll add that Angela was following instructions on that printed card, and the plan was for Mr Robot to carry out the instructions but Elliot happened to randomly wake up in the elevator throwing off Angela's plan - that's why she seemed confused at the start and asked him if he wanted to grab lunch later, she was doing her best to vibe check if Mr Robot was in control or Elliot was back. I think when she realised he wasn't in control, she adjusted her plan without telling anyone. The only other thing is "the distraction" that Irving mentions of the protestors pushing the building, I read that as that's their distraction so Elliot (really Mr Robot) can make it into the same room Angela did and do his part of the plan. They orchestrated a whole hostile raid on a building just to provide some cover for them to go to one console in one room and do their hack.

2023-02-12 01:55:57 +0000 UTCi was going to say "why do they keep doing this to me?" but the truth is that i'm doing this to myself because i could easily not s click stop when it says keep watching and just binge the rest of the show 💀 this was as excellent as my friend promised. the fucking anxiety it caused me though... portia excelled and i'm so happy for that because i really needed to have an episode anglea-centric and while she was not the main focus thoroughout the whole episode she stole the show this time. the camera work was insane and so was the music. i was already anxious watching but damn, the camera and music made me feel 10 times more uneasy. ok, i may be a bit biased here because i love darlene so much but... i don't think of her working with the fbi as a betrayal to elliot. to mobley, trenton and even angela? sure, but not to elliot. it's not like he threw him under the bus, the deal she broke included elliot too right? she just wanted tyrell. i mean, i get elliot's recation, don't get me wrong, but at the end of the day why is he actually mad? because of the collaboration or because she hacked him? because he hacks people 24/7 including his friends and i'm sure he's hacked darlene more than once. i get why he would be upset but i really hope this doesn't completely fuck up their relationship.

Also apart from the distraction there were real protesters against evil Corp because the economic situation is still like shit. So distraction + real protest.

The rioters breaking their way into E Corp and destroying shit and killing people, with the alarm going off and refusing to let up is hellish, and Angela constantly being in danger but being able to get it done makes it for me, and then the ending...yeah. God this is a great one.
