Maro's DNA Results are in! š±

Still in England, enjoying my last few days here! Sad to leave honestly, itās been such a nice trip! The food is so gooooood. I miss Maro a lot though so I have that to look forward to when I get home.
Hereās the link to our Patreon livestream from the other day if youād like to watch back the recording: https://youtu.be/Hdob76mjYok
Itās been really interesting getting updates from Ushka and seeing Maro get along with her two cats! Took a week or so for them to warm up to each other but now they chase each other around the house, and eat each otherās food - looks like heās having a great timeš
Just over a month ago I submitted a DNA test for Maro. Iāve always been curious about what heās mixed with because the place I got him from had no idea, and his birth certificate just says his parents had green eyesš
My guess had always been Siberian, as he seems to share a lot of features with Siberian cats Iāve seen online. But turns out heās 19% Maine Coon?! Wtf. Thatās the largest cat breed and Maro is tiny! I didnāt see that coming at all. He does have massive paws but thatās the only thing about him that isnāt small really. Heās also 9% British Shorthair, 7% Persian, 6% American Shorthair, 3% Bengal, 2% Burmese and 2% Norwegian Forest Cat. The rest is made up of general categories of cat breed that couldnāt be specifically determined.
He also had his DNA tested for any health markers that could predict possible disease in the future and luckily he was clear for everything besides one marker for a blood clotting disease, but apparently thatās only a worry if heās going to have babies and not something that would affect Maro himself.
They offered a dental risk assessment as well, and besides a medium risk for ābad breathā Maro didnāt have any signs of dental disease. Thatās a relief, I was a little worried because he hasnāt been letting me brush his teeth properly recently, need to try to get back into thatš

Overall, really interesting report! Theyāll be constantly updating his information as they gather more DNA and learn more, so might be some more details about his breed and health available in the future.
It was super easy to swab his mouth and send off, Iām so glad I did it! Really recommend the company if youāre interested in learning about your cat - Iāll leave the link to their page here:
Anyways Iām off to do some more tea shopping before I head back, and Iāll probably be back in Japan next time we chat! Bye for now! āļø

2022-06-12 16:36:08 +0000 UTCGlad everything in England seems to have gone to plan. I forgot to mention it in the livestream but if you loved Indian, try and given Sri Lankan food a go before you head back. There is a lovely place called Hoppers in London (3 different locations).
