The Little Red Hen of Toxic Relationships
Added 2024-09-19 07:58:48 +0000 UTCHave you ever met an indifferent man who, nonetheless, doesn’t want to lose you?
You’re the Little Red Hen of his life:
“If we plant this wheat, we’ll have bread to eat. Who will help?”
“Not I,” said the cat.
“If we put time and honesty into this relationship, we’ll have something of lasting value. Who will help?”
“Not I,” said the man.
He wants you to build devotion out of his constant absence. Somewhere in the middle of your love story, you find yourself alone, grabbing the scraps of time he throws under the table. Most of the time, you’re left hungry. Loneliness grows best in the darkness of a failed relationship, after all.
“Who will help me to make this partnership a happy one?”
“Not I,” he said, “but your despondence is making me angry.”
He wants your trust but requires you to build it from his lies. He rages about your unwillingness to fall backwards into his arms, no matter how many times he’s dropped you.
In the end, you have to build your happiness on your own. You’ve got to sweep the distrust out the door, rediscover the unlonely solitude of being single, and find a relationship of value—with yourself.
“Who will benefit from this sparkly new life?”
“I will,” said the man, but the little red hen had already walked away.

This hit hard. Sometimes I truly wonder if men want the emotional connection or just sex…
