WHOLE EARTH
Added 2022-06-19 15:20:49 +0000 UTCI was raised on things like the Whole Earth Catalog, my parents weren’t Hippies but we’re definitely hippie adjacent! It was more just a willingness to consider alternatives & looking for solutions to the world’s problems. Growing up in Oakland, next to Berkeley I saw distinctly how class & race issues were overshadowed by the lifestylist priorities of overly comfortable Hippies, soaking in their hot tubs! This was one of the key reasons I was attracted to Punk! Anyhow, it’s now 2022, access to these old alternative ideas is greater than it ever has been & yet, it feels like most people don’t realize there is an alternative to this mess! In one way it’s cool because it feels like there is more opportunity for systemic change when everything is on the table. On the other hand it’s weird to not see any mass movement alternative!

Seems like most people opt for allegiance to celebrity leaders who in reality don't actually threaten the status quo (whether Trump, Sanders, Elon Musk, Joe Rogan, or whoever).
