Here are some new screenshots from the last playtest / editing session! :)
Since the last time I posted here, I updated the game's UI, which still needs some fixes. I've also bought some premade backgrounds and edited them (I added the rain in the forest and the decay in the room, cracks in the ceiling and more details.) There's also one custom commissioned background of a graveyard that I haven't posted yet. I'm waiting to make an interesting, yet not too spoilerish screenshot.
Also, I'm waiting for the main character's sprite, which should be shown near the beginning of the game to establish what she looks like. When that's done, I can start work on publishing a demo.
So far, every chapter needs editing, but I've made big progress on the writing, scripted the whole second chapter in-game and almost finished writing the third. Now I'm going back to test and polish from the beginning so I don't make a mistake in writing the end of the third chapter, because it's getting complicated. :')
The plan is to have seven chapters, one for each day that the characters are trapped in the cursed village. I like to playtest and polish them separately, as I feel I can give more attention to each section of the game that way, and also take care that I don't rush it at the end.
I'm considering launching in early access at itchio at some point, or giving early access to Patreon supporters. I would very much like to talk to players about this game while I'm still making it, and I realize there isn't much to talk about if you can't play it. By the time I finish making it, I'll be so burned out from testing it 300 times that it won't be the same for me. Plus, if you can play it early, I might be able to implement some additional choices based on your suggestions, so we don't end up with "why didn't MC just do this?" π€
Also, I think this game will go back to the alignment system of Demonheart: Good/Evil and Tactful/Defiant. I tried to come up with a different scale, like Carefree/Paranoid, but I think Tactful/Defiant is more fun to write. And let's be real, it's difficult for anyone to be carefree in this setting. So I'm also going back to some player choices and adding options to say something good, evil, tactful or rude, where I feel such options are missing.
Thank you for sticking with me!
