[DEVBLOG#186] Vanilla Chemfuel Expanded
Added 2022-04-03 15:41:54 +0000 UTCHey guys! I come to you with infographics for the new mod we're dropping on the testing server today. It's called...

Vanilla Chemfuel Expanded is a small mod created to showcase what the new Pipe network code is capable of in Vanilla Expanded framework. It adds a simple chain to extract Deepchem from the underground pockets and refine it into Chemfuel. It also adds storage solutions for both Deepchem and standard chemfuel, alongside a few structures including a Refinery and Chemfuel tap. Player can now connect any refuelable chemfuel-powered structures to the pipe network to make sure everything refuels automatically.
You will probably notice similarities with Rimefeller - and rightfully so. Both Rimefeller and Vanilla Chemfuel Expanded add a similar mechanic of obtaining and refining a resource into another resource. Vanilla Chemfuel Expanded is less convoluted and does not include things like Plastic, and it also doesn't add oil, but a deepchem resource, which fits vanilla more, in my opinion, as oil would be hard to come across on a terraformed planet.
Furthermore, method of finding deepchem is more streamlined - simply use the deep-mineral scanner to find pockets of it.
Anyway, lets take a look at what the mod has to offer!

So yeah, that's it. Pretty simple, as you can see. I even supplied a diagram how to set up the network!
Let me know what you think!

The perfect mod for a gas station

2022-04-04 04:31:46 +0000 UTCI like the simplicity of it. I'm glad you're not shying away from doing mods with a similar theme to other ones, it's always good to have alternatives.

2022-04-04 03:53:49 +0000 UTCI personally think Helixen is in a good place, as-is. However, I think the biggest issue it has is wanting to make it the backbone of your colony, only to have one geyser towards the edge of your map and the other buried in the deepest part of a mountain. I think the same approach as adding small content updates to mods - lucky lasers in frontier weapons, for example - would be fine. "Adds a helixen pumpjack with Chemfuel Expanded installed!"

2022-04-04 02:05:27 +0000 UTCI agree, Helixien Additions is cool, but a VE expansion to Helixien gas would be better.

2022-04-04 01:11:03 +0000 UTCThis looks awesome! I remember that people gave you guys a lot of vitriol for planning your own take on Hygiene, so I hope people are less toxic to you for this. Never will I understand why people are upset at having more options.

2022-04-03 23:45:47 +0000 UTCOh, and as a sidenote: I personally would deeply appreciate a Helixen pumpjack following with the example set by the chemfuel pumpjack. Vanilla Power Expanded added both those Helixen geysers and chemfuel ponds, and I feel like the ability to scan for underground sources and extract from those when the surface sources are either built-on or few in number is deeply appreciated here for chemfuel, and could expand nicely to Helixen, considering the inability to milk it, craft it, grow it, or dig for it.

2022-04-03 23:07:20 +0000 UTCI feel like Chemfuel Expanded and the Helixen Gas system could benefit a lot from taking notes from eachother. I imagine the Chemfuel pipeline will refuel generators, drop pod launchers, chemfuel lamps, and chemboilers, but there are a few other areas that seem like they could do with attention. Will there be, say, a Factory Fuel Hopper that lets factory machines take fuel in the case that the tap can't feed into hoppers/machines? That'd definitely help with automation. What about defenses? Helixen can be expelled in vents. Can we expect a structure that releases a deepchem spill that makes movement slower, chemfuel fire jets, or perhaps a HEAVY flamer turret from VE-Security that puts a lot more flame out? I don't see any valves which could cut the flow of deepchem or chemfuel.

2022-04-03 23:03:07 +0000 UTCNope, this is all that comes with it. We already added chemfuel lamps in Settlers!

2022-04-03 22:21:45 +0000 UTCCool, will this come with any additional building not shown here? Like chemfuel lighting or something like that?

2022-04-03 22:11:52 +0000 UTCThat's it, easier and more passive way of getting chemfuel. It's also great for defensive measure as deepchem really explodes in a big radius. This mod is mostly to show what our new pipe framework can do - so that other modders can add cool shit!
Oskar Potocki
2022-04-03 20:39:16 +0000 UTCThat's fair, anything you can tell us about future plans for it, or will it mostly remain an easier way to acquire chemfuel and distribute it to generators?
Alexander Smith
2022-04-03 19:28:27 +0000 UTCNo, that would invalidate the entirety of our Vanilla Factions Expanded Mechanoids :P Why would you build super expensive machine to make plasteel if you could just turn the fuel into it?
Oskar Potocki
2022-04-03 19:06:08 +0000 UTCPotentially!

2022-04-03 18:12:01 +0000 UTCAwesome I always love the rimfeller guy's mods but wished they were more vanilla. Hope you get a chance to work on that climate impact stuff you talked about a few years ago so going all chem has consequences
Brian Lang
2022-04-03 17:16:25 +0000 UTCAmazing, I really like the texture work for this. Are there any plans to add additional machines for the processing of deepchem/chemfuel into things like neutroamine or plasteel? Or is it planned to leave that to the factories of VFE:Mechanoids?
Alexander Smith
2022-04-03 16:57:53 +0000 UTCDo it have function to refuel SRTS shuttles like rimefeller? Vehicles compability in future?
