Holiday Travel Sketchbook

Hi patrons,

Happy New Year! I hope you had some holiday fun. I basically fulfilled my promise not to work (minus one newsletter cartoon for the theater). But I ended up doing a lot more sketching than expected, so I'm posting those here!

This page references the theater's Winter Break Camps. My job included setup, check-in, and admin work. School break camps are a lot of fun, but I have mixed feelings about starting work at 8am (as opposed to 10:30 or 1pm, my usual shifts).

A peek at Winter Break Camps:

My family absolutely lucked out with holiday travel. The sister in Omaha had to work over the holidays, and we didn't think through the implications of traveling to Nebraska in December. We had some cancellations and delays on the way home, but all six of us made it TO Omaha as planned! My mom picked a gorgeous AirBnB for the family to pile into:

Most of this page is from the flight to Omaha. I filled in the last corner after my flight home was pushed from Tuesday to Saturday:

I was scheduled to work from home that week, so I was able to take a later flight, work out of my sister's apartment, and get some bonus hangout time! But first I camped out at Zen coffee. It has a silly menu ("toast flights"?!) but also has delicious coffee, a huge wooden table, and natural light, perfect for drawing. I ended up sitting next to a local artist for a couple hours! (Sup Patrick. You aren't online so you will never see this, but it was great to meet you. <3)
There are meats listed on this page because International Cafe across the street had a fun font in the windows.

I haven't done a lot of drawing from observation lately. It felt really good to take the time!

The view from Zen Coffee: (Honorable mention to Bad Seed Coffee & Supply down the street! Equally tasty and comfy; I just didn't do any drawing there.)

The flight home (bumped up to business class!):

(This is the War on Cars episode: There Are No Accidents with Jessie Singer, and You're Wrong About: Survival in the Andes with Blair Braverman)

The 1-hour layover became a 4-hour layover:

Annnd we're back in Portland! I hope you enjoyed these sketchbook pages (or if not, that you skipped them and are patiently waiting for the next SuperButch page :p).

Thanks, as always, for supporting me on Patreon!
