This was a true story I've been meaning to draw for awhile. When I had a couple days off and no looming art-deadlines, I jumped at the chance!
I like turning Shoulder Angel's flight path into an elongated word balloon every now and then. However, I spent almost as much time drawing this one as I did drawing the rest of the comic. Here's what the initial sketch looked like:

I traced over this in a new Photoshop layer, trying to refine the lines while keeping their energy. I also tried to keep this shape while turning it into an actual continuous strip of dialogue, but never got that to work.

I also drew guidelines for the letters. I did the "trace-and-refine" thing about 5 times before I was happy with it. This is what it looks like with all the layers visible:

I also spent awhile on my facial expression in the final panel, looking for the right mixture of rage and surprise. I tried several expressions (below) and ended up mixing and matching eyes, noses, eyebrows, etc. for the final drawing.

Annnd now I'm rethinking some of the Shoulder Angels I drew. Shoot. I REALLY like that one on the bottom-left. This is a hazard of deadline-free digital drawings. I COULD redo some expressions and body language if I wanted to... BUT I WON'T! Barry and I are getting started on the next SuperButch scene, which I know you're impatient to read!
So as always, thank you for the support, and I hope you enjoy these peeks behind the scenes!
