"Panel 2
This is a large, multiple-panels-in-one panel. It shows an old-fashioned newsroom - desks in a huge open room - and, moving from left to right and background to foreground, three figures of Lily and [Editor] with a cigar in his mouth. He’s trying to walk away from her, and she’s following."
This page is the ultimate example of comics being faster to write than they are to draw!
After a couple attempts at drawing freehand...
...I googled images of "roomful of desks" and dropped one into Photoshop. (There's definitely a more technological way to set up perspective lines and use digital models of desks and typewriters and windows, and...I'm not that technological.)
After that, I kept filling in chairs, reporters, and cluttered desks.
Barry suggested I move the third Lillian to the right, behind Mr. Hester, to give them a clearer walking pathway through the page. I think I'd drawn it this way with the intention of filling up the page evenly, but Barry was right. And that's how this page came together!
