They do impose a buddy system in the main members. I believe they are lessening it, but they referred to the buddy system as home/visiting teaching. Someone would come to your house monthly to 1. make sure you are living up to standard 2. not involved in anything illegal and 3. make sure you are not questioning doctrine. Also, "no happiness on the outside" is explicitly taught. There were many lessons about how only LDS can experience true joy, while outsiders only got "temporary bliss". You are also taught that God will remove blessings or punish you for not "choosing correctly", and that people primarily leave the church to "sin". I think the numbers should have been higher, but likely that's just my own frustration with the religion. Good video
