Them and their mother Shub-Niggurath, also called the black goat of the forest, are references to H.P. Lovecraft's work. Best known for Cthulhu. Not sure if this means that the spell worked because it worked in the game or if all of Lovecraft's Great Outer ones exist but it is interesting.
