We're closing in on the end of the month again, so it's once again Patreon rewards time!

For this month's preview post on Fate of the Celestial Mirror (my next project, a xianxia otome/BL game), I want to introduce and talk a bit about one feature of the game: the glossary system.

Glossary System

Are you not familiar with the xianxia genre in general and perhaps worried that you won't be able to follow what's going on in the story or understand what certain Chinese honorifics and xianxia terms mean? Don't worry, I got you!

The game features a glossary system, where certain concepts and words in the dialogue will be highlighted in blue.

And if you hover over the word, a tooltip with the term's definition or a quick explanation will show up.

Not only that, but if you click on the highlighted word, it'll bring you to the full Glossary screen, which includes the full glossary entry of the term, as well as a log of all previously seen terms!

👀Spot that "play" button? Pressing that will play a small voice clip pronouncing the word out loud in Mandarin, in case you're curious how some terms — and character names — are supposed to be said!

Character names, I say? Yep, you see that category called People that lists some of the characters?

When you meet an NPC that has a face/name (so not the super minor ones that you'd only ever meet once), their biography will be added to the glossary as well, where you can gradually unlock more information about them as you progress through the story.

It also has a relationship level tracker with the love interests, so you can see how close you are to wooing the guy of your dreams!

Hopefully, this feature will help make your experience easier, especially for anyone who isn't familiar with xianxia genre beforehand.
