"I grimace, all too aware that I'm about to make a fool of myself climbing on this horse, just like every other time. The fact that Lyrissa will be right here watching me flail around makes it worse."
"Still, I have to face this sooner or later. Squaring my shoulders as if I'm going to battle, I stride purposefully to the horse."
"He stares at me."
"I stare at him."
"With increasing reluctance, I step closer, putting one hand on the saddle, but right as I'm about to boost myself up, he lets out a loud snort."
Raenelle: "Ack! Zianna help me!"
"I stumble away from the horse, thoroughly spooked. His expression is unimpressed, flaring his nostrils as if taunting me further, and I hear the familiar tinkling sound of Lyrissa's laughter from behind me."
"Embarrassed, I turn towards her, coughing awkwardly and desperately trying to recover my dignity."
Raenelle: "I swear he doesn't like me."
"Her eyes sparkle with mirth as she tries to get her laughter under control."
Lyrissa: "Now I'm sure that's not true. He's just nervous because you're nervous."
Lyrissa: "Here, let me help."
"In one smooth motion, Lyrissa pulls herself onto the saddle before swinging her legs to straddle the seat, hands still firmly gripping the reins."
"Not a single hair is out of place, and her dress flows elegantly down the side to cover the bare skin of her legs."
"The horse makes no complaint, staying obediently in place."
Raenelle: "How do you make it look so easy?"
