Bonnie died AGAIN at the wedding explosion when she collapsed her heart stopped for the first time since Elaina was asleep! The spell said the only thing that could break it was if Bonnie died. And she did they showed her wanting to stay with Enzo. He said "It's not your time. You have to go back and live!." That's why she went traveling. But sometimes she was also able to see him when she wasn't dead so it was a little difficult to catch. I don't remember who it was but someone was pumping Bonnie's heart after she collapsed. (It might have been Stephen) So the breaking of the sleeping spell didn't just poof happen with no explanation. It was broken how they said it would be broken. It was just hard to catch.

It's just an easier way to say that through time, learning, and the natural progression of life, people can figure out new/different solutions to problems. For example, Bonnie curing Elena was cool bc it just showed that after a long journey of figuring out she was Psychic, to being a full witch who has practiced Ancestral, Dark, Spirit, and Expression magics, after the experience of holding off the hellfire, she was finally able to understand her magical abilities truly and that's what allowed her to figure out how to help Elena.
