Keeping up the R&D

Hi folks!

I've been doing a lot of experimentation these last days, and also upgrading all my workflow software that has been frozen since the beginning of GHR.

I already have a LOT of ideas, which may sound great but it's also problematic. It's hard to dive a little deeper into one idea while you think how could also be great doing the other ones in your mind.

I dig the idea of making another parody. But at the same time I'd like to try a little less into the line of linear narrative style, which is also scary because it's hard!

- The idea of a small 2.5D action game is cool. I had a lot of fun setting up this character and her basic moves. Trying to mix action with narrative would be something nice and not usually done in this "industry".

- I also love the classic point-and-click mechanic. It needs to take place in the setting to work, though. And I think this specific one down here has a lot of potential (mystery, crime, and a nice harem). I always wanted to walk around this academy and build some alternate locations in it.

- Finally, I also had an idea for an original plot. But this would be a little less about choice and consequence, and maybe more about some kind of "grind free resource/time management" towards a unique goal.

Share your thoughts here while I keep experimenting. Would you like to see a tech demo about one of those?

See you again soon.

Peace!

The 3rd path would be my preference.

Little game, looking OK, though I would also agree with the comment about the games in grh being on the right balance, and about the fact of having to keep a balance between the action and not making the game not too complex and not too easy. Setting (the second picture), looking good, if I understand exactly, you are thinking about something in a college/university/sport settings ? Looks good. Third picture, cute :-), the idea of the mechanism could be good as well, it depends also on what is the goal, I guess. Looking forward to the eventual demos, is probably the best way to give a feedback

2.5d like Diablo is cool, 2.5d Metroidvania is frustrating. I tend to have a hard time playing games with click for 2.3 seconds, unclick for 5.3 seconds, click again for 1.5 seconds and that is the only way to get past this area. I love games where the puzzle is easy to comprehend and not to hard to solve while still feeling like I had to flex my brain (you had lots of that in GRH).

Circuitarity

Just as long as no goofy or ‘lo-fi’/low-res graphics. Left that 35 years ago.

Hammer

Agreed, but I'm also interested in what he can do with it.

Sorry my personal preferences are totally towards a better\dynamic narrative and as less grind as possible. And that's the third option. The second: I always found harem becomes boring really really soon, what you did with GRH was super interesting also because you didn't go for the usual guy that f* them all. The first option: interesting and unexpected, could work but the real challenge there would be to be able to fit a good enough narrative and art with that setting.

2.5D is interesting, but Metroidvania-style action mechanics tend to be a lousy fit with general "industry" requirements (or at least I haven't seen one that did more than one of 'action' or 'industry' remarkably well yet). On the other hand, I would be interested to see what you could come up with using something like Spine. Maybe less Metroidvania and more Maniac Mansion?

José

Sounds interesting

Not gonna lie, time management doesn't sound too fun. I trust your judgement tho!

as long we can have a "dark" path i am happy.

Love the idea of you making a Life is Strange Parody game! I think there is a lot of potential there.
