September 2022 - Beasts of the British Isles (Part 2)

Hey folks, hope you are all well!

I'm delighted to show to you the last release for the theme for August and September 2022 - The Beasts of the British Isles! For these two sets I'll be exploring the folklore of my native land and bring you a selection of monsters from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. This is a set I've wanted to do for a very long time, and I hope you enjoy what is to come!

First up, we have the Buggane, a sea troll from the Isle of Man. Trolls and troll-like creatures are common throughout northern European folklore, and this dangerous fellow is no exception. Shapeshifters and magic users, the Buggane most famously did battle with the great Irish giant Finn McCool, who fled back to Ireland over the sea.

Other folk who are common throughout British and European folklore are the Fae, or faeries. A mysterious, magical people, they are both antagonists and helpers towards the people of Britain. I sculpted a proud Faery Lord, inspired by the Gentleman with the Thistledown Hair from the fantastic book 'Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell' by Susanna Clarke. In the book the fae are unworldly, cruel creatures, how will you make yours?

Next up we return back to the Isle of Man for a more lighthearted entry to our list - Gef the Talking Mongoose. A poltergeist-like creature that inhabited a farmhouse in the early 20th century, Gef became famous throughout the world for his hijinks and cheeky nature. I learned about Gef whilst listening to my favourite podcast, "The Last Podcast on the Left", and thought he'd be a fantastic addition to the set. I'm not making this up, check it out!

The Green Knight is a figure from Arthurian legend - a mysterious warrior who challenged Sir Gawain to a contest of honour. He's also an interpretation of the Green Man, an ancient nature deity often seen carved upon buildings throughout Europe.

And lastly, the Lambton Worm is a draconic beast from the north of England, who is slain by a brave knight who cast it into the well many years before. It's a great story, and dragons are another common theme in folklore throughout Britain and beyond.

*How to get the models*

After all of your pledges have been processed by Patreon (takes around two or three days), I'll release the files for you all to download and print.

An email will be sent to you from MyMiniFactory, where you can download them at your leisure. I am required to manually add any new Patrons into the MMF system, so you will get your link within a few days of subscribing.

If you haven't received your link after a few days, be sure to check the spam folders in your email inbox. If sill no joy, just let me know and I'll look into it for you.

I hope you enjoy this release as much as I enjoyed sculpting them!

Many thanks,

- Alex

These would be great for a Dolmenwood campaign! It would be sweet if you did some woodgrues in the future!

Ditto on more Folklore Creatures, this set will make for interesting encounters for Silver Bayonet teams... Especially the Thistle-Haired Fairy Lord and the Lambton Worm.

this series has been fantastic, and i hope you return for a pt.3, 4 and more (amount of British Isles legends depending…) how about a halfling/human version of each UK country patron saint, with accompanying creatures/items from their legend ? (Partick and the snakes, George and the dragon, David and the dove, Andrew and the healing spring ?) or a halfling/human legenda of Indiana Jones with questing knights, the grail or the ark. or hells, go full Kali Ma !
