I'm not actually surprised he just took Cas's word for it. I mean, think about it; he's historically been willing to instantly believe all monsters and demons are evil based on what they were and what he'd been told. It's only after he gets to know some of them that he changes his mind. It's possible the same thing is happening here- he's going off of what he was told as a kid (not likely by his dad because we see at first he's not even really convinced angels are real in the first place. I'm talking about the common belief that angels are on the side of good), that angels are inherently good somehow. Will that change as we go on? I suppose we'll find out.
