Hi folks! At the start of each development cycle I work on UI and core system improvements. For version 0.4 I tried to do a little revamp of the save system and set up a better auto-skip feature. Here is what you can expect:
Faster auto-skip: Auto-skip (hold 'Z' key) will be much faster. I removed the speed cap that makes it somewhat slow in current version, but I'm still a afraid that it may cause small bugs on animations synchronization. However, I don't think it will cause any game-breaking issues.
Labeled saves: Saves will display a label showing the scene or location or where it were created.
Load panel: You will be able load straight from the stats screen ('ESC' key). No need to go back to title to load.
Auto-saves: Scenes in HnS2 are quite longer than the ones in HnS1. So, it might be frustrating to replay a long scene when you regret a choice made a long time after the latest save. This feature will automatically save the game at several points during the scenes using 5 new dedicated auto-save slots. You can still save at regular save points during free-roam.
I know a lot of people are used to the Ren'Py system, where you can right-click and save any time. I could pose at a higher moral ground saying that this kind of system only leads to save scumming (which is not a completely false claim). However, the truth is that I designed the Unity VN engine based on the concept of save points. But don't worry! I'll add frequent auto-save points near most choices and interactions, so you'll be able to easily go back to any important points of the game.
I'm also planning to increase the number of save and auto-save slots, but that's gonna have to wait for v0.5! Time to work on story content!
