Post-sex Lena was a different person than the uptight, bulk-purchaser of mace who knew better than to ever trust an alpha.
She found Kara's shirt bunched up by her bed in the morning, and nonchalantly added birth control to her weekly shopping list just in case her neighbor could be of use again — some time far in the future, maybe during her next heat. Her skin finally cleared up and even glowed from the long night of sexual release.
The one issue was that her paranoia and stress disorder still pursued and grabbed her in her dreams. She had slipped into bed next to Sam, cuddled in, and her next conscious memory was waking up and gasping out loud.
Sam opened her eyes and sat up with her, and they clutched each other’s hand until the alarm went off.
“Want to talk about it?” Sam asked in her raspy-throated sleep voice.
“No, it’s fine.”
Lena never answered differently, not even in the past therapy session she had been nudged to attend. She envied Sam her willingness to submit to all kinds of mental probing and support groups. That sort of thing wouldn’t work for her as a Luthor. Talking about problems was akin to admitting weakness and deficiency beyond compare. The unspoken family rule was to keep things to her chest. She didn’t agree with it or revere that mindset, but she still followed those rules in her adult life like they were some kind of hardwiring.
“Kara treated you well, right?” Sam whispered, stroking a curl away from Lena’s face.
“Kara railed me so good I think I pulled several muscles.” Lena massaged one of her thighs and glanced over as a text appeared on Sam’s phone screen from Alex Danvers.
“It seems like I’m not the only one getting cozy with a new neighbor,” Lena intoned and waited for Sam to pick up the phone before moving closer to also read the message.
Hey, would you like to go on a double date +Ruby tonight? Kara wanted to ask, but she’s worried Lena will say no.
“Coward.” Lena sucked her teeth to stop them from forming into a foolish smile. “Tell her no. I don’t want to appear too eager.”
“Lena, you enjoyed Kara’s company last night.” Sam laughed at her surliness and responded with a much nicer answer:
We would love that. What time?
Alex responded almost immediately and Lena pursed her lips with a sour expression as she read the text.
How about 4:30 at the arcade and pizzeria? We keep hearing great things about the place.
“Why am I not surprised that their idea of a date is playing games? Isn’t that all alphas do?” Lena refused to acknowledge that it was actually the safest, most inclusive place for a first date.
Ruby loved the arcade, and it would be filled with other families enjoying themselves. It wasn’t as daunting or confining as being trapped in a movie theater, and pizza was an easy meal they could all share without the heavy expectations of sitting down at a restaurant. It was the perfect set-up for being casual and out in the open, and Lena suspected Kara was behind it.
Sam rolled her eyes at the exaggerated pout Lena sported and rifled through her drawers for an outfit she would wear later. “Would it kill you to have a little fun for once?”
“It might. You know I have an aversion to positivity. It’s why I make a great pessimist.”
Lena’s attitude didn’t quite punch the way it should have, and Sam’s knowing smirk left her flustered and vulnerable. She walked off to brush her teeth, take a fast shower, and contemplate calling in to work to ask if they needed an extra set of hands.
Saturdays were the busiest hours at the library because of families with pups that flocked there for story time.
Lena’s inclination to avoid Kara didn’t come down to shame so much as necessity.
What if she broke out in hives again?
She didn’t want her heat to come on early, and living next door to Kara was clearly putting a strain on her hormonally. Just thinking about the buff alpha made her slick, and Lena scrubbed herself down a second time before getting out of the shower.
She dressed while her skin was still damp and hurried downstairs to find Sam flipping blueberry pancakes while Ruby sat patiently at the table with a book open.
“We’re just about to eat.” Sam tried to direct her into a seat by waving her spatula, but Lena dodged her best friend's playful attack. “Where’s the fire?”
Lena shot her a look that said she knew where, and flared her nostrils in an attempt not to utter something crass when the kid was in earshot. “I just have to pick up a few things before our dinner tonight.”
“You mean date,” Ruby giggled and glanced up at her mother, who must have filled her in on their plans for the day. “Are you shopping for a new outfit?”
“No,” Lena uttered in offense and stared at Sam to silently blame her for Ruby’s cutting remark. “I was going out for suh—something else. Be good while I’m gone or I won’t bring you back a treat.”
“Yes, you will!” Ruby called after her.
Lena checked herself over out of paranoia and tried not to let Ruby’s probing unravel what was left of her sanity. Her cozy sweater might have been a bit frumpy, but it was warm and she didn’t want to throw on a coat just to run a few errands.
Besides, who could she possibly bump into that early?
Few cars were on the road, and the drive to the local pharmacy took under five minutes. Lena wandered up the shampoo aisle and circled around to another section she liked to avoid. Her suppressors stood out in their large purple and white bottles. She tossed two into her basket and headed over to check out the birth control.
“God, why are there so many options?” Lena lamented under her breath and squinted at the packaging for a sachet of morning after tea.
“I was just asking myself that,” replied a small, sheepish voice that belonged to a very red-faced Kara. She looked embarrassed about meeting up in the omega healthcare section.
Lena threw the box with unfortunate force—not on purpose, but still with exceptional aim. It bounced off Kara’s forehead, and she backed into the shelf, toppling several products on the floor.
The noisy clatter brought curious onlookers and Kara scrambled to pick up the items she had knocked over.
“What the hell are you doing here?” Lena’s accusatory snarl was to save face, since her heart rate spiked and her traitorous perfume filled the aisle with beguiling and pleasant pheromones.
“Shopping?” Kara’s inflection made it sound like a guess. She avoided the small crowd of onlookers to gather the embarrassing selection of lubricants and knot-rings meant to help an alpha’s performance and toppled a few over in her haste to stack them on the shelves. “God, how many self-defense classes did you take? I should probably sign myself up to them so the next time we run into one another I can block your attack.”
Lena would have helped clean up the mess if she hadn’t been staring intently at the items Kara clutched under her arm with great care.
Three different morning-after sachets to prevent unwanted pups, and a giant multipack of condoms.
It disturbed her that she didn’t register that as a bad thing, and her offended scent cut through Kara’s mortified stench.
“Most people bring flowers to a first date, not prophylactics,” Lena hissed and slapped the items out of Kara’s grasp to see the bulk box contained 80 condoms.
She froze for all of two seconds as her cunt clenched pitifully, then came to her senses and hurried to the check-out before Kara could catch up to her.
In her flustered rush to get out of the store, Lena picked up an excessive number of treats for Ruby. She thought she was in the clear until she shoved all of the bags into the car. Itchy hives formed on her face and neck again, and she drove off just as she spotted Kara jogging in her direction.
Once home, Ruby tried to dive bomb the shopping bags and Lena had to hold them out of reach.
“Hey Ruby, I wouldn’t ever ask you to do anything wrong, but remember last year when you faked sick, and your mother believed it?” Lena grabbed one of the huge packs of candy and handed it over as a bribe.
“You want me to fake sick so you don’t have to see Kara tonight?” Ruby asked as she tore the wrapper off a lollipop. “Why are you being so weird? Everyone can tell you like her.”
Sam wandered into the kitchen and dug through one of the bags to find her favorite chocolate. She looked happy until she glanced over at Lena’s blotchy and angry looking rash. “Oh no, what happened to your face? You were fine when you left.”
Lena sank into a chair with her more personal purchases on her lap. “Kara Danvers also likes to get her shopping done first thing in the morning. Do you know what was on her list?”
Ruby took the first guess. “A puppy?”
“It’s something you buy at the pharmacy, Rubes.” Lena knew that her best friend would figure out the implications without her naming the specific products in front of their child.
“Band-aids?” Ruby guessed again, her innocence shining through as her eyes widened with concern. “Do you think Kara is sick?”
“Yes,” Lena answered at the exact moment Sam reassured the kid with an emphatic, “No!”
“Don’t lie to Ruby,” Sam warned under her breath and squinted to snap her out of her weird behavior. “She’s still impressionable.”
Lena rolled her eyes and for once kept her opinions to herself.
Obviously something was wrong with Kara if she liked her and had such high expectations of hooking up again.
Lena refused to take any responsibility for why Kara thought they would have sex again. She was certain it had nothing to do with the way she moaned or begged Kara to frequently rail her. The memory worsened the fiery itch of her cheeks, and Lena brought her hand up to her neck to cool it off.
“I think it’s for the best that I stay home tonight. For all I know I could be contagious, and we don’t want this spreading.”
“The only thing you’ve caught is feelings.” Sam’s smug grin widened as she gestured to Lena’s feverish complexion. “We can cover all of this with make-up and nobody will be the wiser.”
“Yeah, you gotta come with us! You always win the most tickets at whack-a-mole!” Ruby insisted, oblivious to the idea she had given Lena.
After sitting for over an hour while Sam slathered concealer all over her face and neck, Lena was ready to whack something. If Kara’s pants so much as tented in her general direction, Lena would make her regret it.
She remained grumpy during the ride over to the arcade, and resented the way her lips tried to form a smile when she clocked Kara standing outside with a single long-stemmed rose in her hand.
Alex stood right by her sister with a modest bouquet for Sam and an entire jar of quarters for Ruby.
Most modern arcades used swipe cards, but not the one in their town. Ruby accepted the jar like it was a trophy, and Sam greeted Alex with a friendly hug.
“I’m so happy you could make it.” Alex smiled and shyly glanced down at Sam’s midriff top, polite as ever about checking her out.
Sam flirted by eyeing up her date’s bulky arm muscles. “Thank you for inviting us. You look great.”
“Shall we?” Alex asked and held out her hand with a soft blush. “What game should we play first?”
They meshed their fingers together to walk inside, and with Ruby in between them, they seemed like any other average family.
Lena hung back at first — not to give them the chance to get even more comfortable with each other, but because she was upset and jealous that someone else could take her place just by setting up one date. Her eyebrows pinched together in irritation and she forgot Kara was nearby holding out a rose.
“Hey, this is for you.” Kara twirled the flower cutely and made it impossible for Lena to forget her presence. She came two steps closer and Lena’s attraction made her weak kneed.
In a way it was fortunate, since Lena didn’t have the strength to do something asinine like smack the flower out of Kara’s hand — or lean into the space they shared. She hovered precariously and grabbed the rose while staring at Kara’s kissable lips.
“Listen, about earlier–” Kara paused no doubt to find the right words, and Lena saw it as an opening to circumvent any talk of the disaster that unfolded that morning.
“I didn’t expect to see you in the aisle for omega healthcare. I might have overreacted a tad. Thank you for the flower.”
Lena brought the rose up to sniff the floral sweetness and to conceal the genuine smile that tugged at the corners of her lips. She kept her eyes on Kara, albeit through her lashes, and tried not to get hung up on the fact that she basically apologized while flirting.
She oscillated between extreme attraction to Kara and the overwhelming sense of fear that getting close to an alpha was a bad idea.
The internal conflict could have eroded whatever unexpected joy she experienced, but she found herself dismally trying to focus on the positives, of which Kara had many.
Lena checked her date out with a slow glance down her attire and felt the prickly itch across her cheeks worsen.
“So, do you want to try and win the most tickets with me?” Kara formed dimples as she grinned, though the faux innocence she tried to display was comically all for show.
Lena squinted up at her neighbor and pursed her lips in thought as she read between the lines of her mischievous question. “Are you really proposing that we go in there and put your sister to shame?”
Sibling rivalry notwithstanding, Lena could get on board with the devious plan because she already felt slighted by Alex, even if it wasn’t intentional on the alpha’s part.
“Hey don’t let my smile fool you, I’m super competitive,” Kara bragged with the right amount of arrogance to sell it.
Lena suspected as much given her chosen profession and the muscles Kara sported that were bigger than her sister’s by far.
“Good, because so am I,” Lena intoned.
Not many alphas enjoyed competing with omegas because they viewed them as lesser, so saying as much would let her get a read on Kara and see how deep her good nature went.
It curbed Lena’s feelings of impending doom when Kara laughed and held the door open for her to walk in first. “Then we’ll make a great team. Let’s go prove it.”
“What’s our plan here?” Lena whispered as they walked through the family-oriented business like they were casing the place. She peered at the various games and pointed to where Alex was already shooting her shot at the basketball hoop without much luck.
“High value prizes are in the thousands, and most of the games require near perfection to get a few hundred tickets.”
“I can ace the physical side of things, but I suck at claw machines,” Kara admitted, taking an honest approach that was both refreshing and humble. She grinned down at Lena as she flexed and motioned to where her sister failed to sink a basket.
“I can guide you with the strategy stuff,” Lena promised with a glance over at their unsuspecting family. “I’ve spent years practicing so Ruby can get the best things out of those machines.”
They gravitated naturally towards the other couple with a building sense of one-sided rivalry. Kara pulled out a roll of quarters from her pocket and smirked as she sidled up to the next hoop machine with Lena by her side.
Alex clocked her slotting the change into the machine and instinctively guessed her sister’s motives. “You’re going to turn this into a contest, aren’t you?”
“You know it,” Kara chuckled and grabbed for the balls that released from the bottom hatch at the start of her turn. She sank hoops so fast that she gathered a small crowd in no time.
Local kids stopped to admire her technique, and Alex groaned as the machine made a trumpeting noise and announced “HIGH SCORE!”
Hundreds of tickets printed from that game alone and Ruby’s eyes widened. Lena helped her tear them off and fold them into a more convenient pile for carrying.
“This is the best date I’ve ever been on,” Ruby raved in excitement and made herself a long scarf from more of the tickets.
“It’s the only date you’ve ever been on,” Lena corrected and steered the kid along behind Kara to the skee ball machine. “I give it a 7 so far, maybe an 8 if Kara’s aim continues to be this good.”
Kara tossed several balls straight into the ring that awarded fifty tickets. “You were saying?”
Lena pretended she couldn’t hear Kara, and under the guise of peering at the rings she stuck her tits out in blatant flirtation that only the adults would notice.
Not to be outdone by Kara’s antics, Alex waited for her sister to distractedly stare at Lena before joining her at the adjacent machine. She scored two fifties back-to-back while Kara missed and landed a pathetic ten.
“Do you think you can beat the top score?” Ruby asked and situated herself by Sam’s hip to watch Alex toss another ball.
It vexed Lena that she caused her own downfall, and she promptly stopped flaunting herself so that Kara could concentrate on what was important.
Winning.
“I sure can, kid. Watch this.” Alex grabbed up her ball, but Kara flung hers first and managed to slide it into the hardest to reach center target.
“It’s all about the technique,” Kara smirked, and hip-checked her sister when she missed her target and earned ten points instead.
“You’re certainly talented at fitting things into tight spaces,” Lena murmured under her breath, unable to help herself.
Kara swung her next ball into an arcade game by accident and cringed as it flickered at the impact. She looked simultaneously mortified and proud, and gathered up all the tickets to stack them in Ruby’s hands before walking off to the strength tester.
Kara grabbed the giant rubber-coated mallet and smashed it into the base of the machine so many times that it ran out of tickets. By the end of the unofficial competition, she racked up over three thousand and nabbed a cheap little toy car from a coin-pusher.
Alex added over two thousand tickets to their stash, and Ruby counted a total of six hundred that she earned with Sam. Lena stuck to the claw machines and won a color-changing cup and a rainbow sequined llama.
“Maybe we should take a short break for dinner,” Sam suggested and tipped her head towards the restaurant that was attached to the arcade. “Unless you want to win me one of those cool color-changing cups.”
Ruby grabbed the cup from Lena’s hands to horde it away from her mother. She darted off to catch up with their neighbors, and Kara helped her beat Alex in a game of air hockey.
Everything was going surprisingly well, given this was the first date Lena had dared to go on since her college years. She was optimistic by the time they were seated in the pizzeria and feeling ravenous after watching Kara smash the high scores on several of the games.
Lena was shamefully preoccupied by the thought of their neighbor smashing her when Ruby decided to accompany Alex and Kara to the soda fountain. They had ordered a total of three pizzas to split between them because of Ruby’s controversial topping choices.
Alex recoiled at the thought of olives, anchovies and mushrooms all on the same pie. Lena’s unflinching parental desire was to take Ruby’s side by allowing her to branch out.
Kara ordered the meat lover’s feast, and Alex and Sam had chosen the double pepperoni and extra sauce.
Lena thought nothing of it when Kara ventured over first with two large sodas in hand. She slid one in front of Lena and sat down to reveal Alex trying to juggle three full cups back to their table.
Ruby was still glued to Alex’s side and animatedly talking to the alpha, who was trying not to trip over her in the process.
“If you spill those drinks, I’ll have to call off our second date,” Sam teased from her place at the table. She gave a little wave to one of Ruby’s friends, who shot over with crumbs all over his face to gawk at the prizes they had collected.
“Wow, did your sire win you all of those?” The kid wiped his messy face on his sleeve and glanced from Ruby to Alex. “Can you help me win some games after you eat?”
Apart from Lena, no one else at the table would have noticed the smallest amount of tension in Sam’s shoulders as she picked toppings from her pizza. Sam neutrally folded her arms in front of her and waited for Ruby to field the questions. They had talked about this subject in the past whenever it came up in conversation with other families or there was a Parents’ Day at school. On a standard basis, Lena took the initiative to explain that Ruby had two parents who were both omegas.
This time, Ruby handled the situation with a touch of sarcasm she inherited from Lena. “Don’t you ever pay attention in school assemblies? This is our new principal, Miss Danvers.”
Alex set the cups down that she was barely managing to squeeze together with her pinkies. “I can still help you win some prizes later.”
Lena thought the crisis was averted, since the topic of sires seemed to be brushed aside. She took a long sip of her cola without expecting Ruby to pipe up again and shatter the peaceful atmosphere of the date.
“Mama L is my sire, even though she’s an omega.” Ruby reached for a slice of her adventurous pizza and wrinkled her nose after taking a large bite.
“But she can’t be your real sire,” The kid debated and covetously narrowed his eyes at the sequined llama. “Two omegas can’t make a baby.”
They were headed into territory that Lena wanted to avoid until Ruby entered high school. The little shit from Ruby’s class would probably turn into an entitled alpha by then. He puffed the bangs away from his forehead and crossed his arms like he was mimicking his sire’s terrible behavior.
“What’s your name?” Lena asked, careful not to spook him off with her tone.
“Danny,” The kid replied and reached out to swipe his oily fingers over the llama’s back.
“Well, Danny, biologically it might not be possible for an omega to have a baby with another omega – but there are ways around that, and I suggest you discuss them with your parents tonight. In fact, ask your sire all of your questions about it.” Lena expected to receive several phone calls from Danny’s concerned parents, but that was a problem for later.
Sam mimed a stand-down gesture and looked relieved that Danny ran off to find his mother.
Ruby munched two more bites of her pizza and dropped it back on her plate. “I want some extra napkins.”
From years of parenting experience, Lena knew that Ruby was going to grab a plastic fork and knife to scrape most of the toppings from her pie.
Ruby scooted away from the table and that gave the adults the chance to process the conversation that just happened.
Alex appeared apprehensive as she gazed at Sam, as if she was considering how she could have better navigated the situation without Ruby needing to answer the inquisitive questions.
Kara was the first to speak up, and it shocked Lena that she inched closer to ask quietly, “Are you okay?”
The genuine concern in Kara’s eyes was hard to look at dead-on. Lena bristled in defense and stole two slices of Kara’s pizza, but pawned one off on Sam.
“Why wouldn’t I be? This isn’t the first time we’ve dealt with a kid's curiosity. Or an adult’s, for that matter.”
“If it happens again, I’ll clarify that I’m a friend of the family,” Alex stressed with a contrite smile she sent Sam’s way.
Lena’s tongue became thick in her mouth as she watched Sam’s face change and eyes go from shiny to dull.
Sam took the brave approach and ended the neighbors’ curiosity in the simplest way possible. “While we’re on the topic anyway, I think you both should know that Ruby’s the product of one drunken, messy college night. Actually, that makes it sound like I was responsible. I didn’t consent, but I did get the best gift in the world out of that terrible situation.”
That cleared up everyone’s curiosities about the marks on Sam’s throat, and Ruby’s return to the table forced them all to act normal after the heaviness of the discussion.
“Does anybody want my mushrooms? I don’t think I like mixing fish and fungus.” Ruby stabbed the large pieces of anchovy and dropped those on her plate next to the pieces of mushroom.
“At least you’re taking chances and exploring different options.” Sam smiled and ruffled the back of Ruby’s hair, not missing a moment of proud parenting in the name of self-pity. “I want you to always be open to trying new things.”
Lena abandoned her slice of pizza and let the cheese congeal for a while. She pretended to need to use the restroom to get up, stretch her legs and cope with the panic attack that was weighing oppressively on her chest.
Time seemed to both extend and cease to exist while she stood gasping in one of the stalls. Her mind was entirely elsewhere, drifting between her own past traumas and Sam’s, and it took all of her strength to focus on her breathing. She just had to control the air she drew into her lungs yet it felt like the hardest task in the world as the bathroom door swung in on her.
Lena shut her eyes until her heartbeat normalized, and then she stumbled toward the sink to run her wrists under cool water. The icy shock helped to bring her back to the present, and she avoided her own eyes in the mirror as she made her way out of the bathroom.
It disoriented her to smell Kara’s scent before she noticed her hovering cautiously by the door. Kara’s face lit up when she spotted Lena and a worried crinkle formed between her brows.
Lena could already sense the questions on Kara’s tongue and lifted a hand to wave them off. “I’m fine. There was just a long line in front of me.”
The white lie didn’t hold any weight, and she could see Kara didn’t believe her, but chose to accept her fib regardless.
“I saved you some slices of my pizza, and Ruby graciously gave me all of her anchovies.” Kara rubbed her stomach with a grin and held Lena’s stare far longer than was polite.
They moved towards each other, and Kara opened her arms for Lena. Hugging would have been natural, except Lena came to her senses and pressed her palm to Kara’s ridiculously large bicep to block and dodge.
“As long as you didn’t add any of them to my pizza, we’re good.” Lena meant that in a broader sense and wondered if that feeling would stick throughout the night.
She fell in beside Kara, and they walked practically hand in hand—that is if she could count their knuckles brushing more than once or their fingertips almost touching.
Ruby stood at one of the claw machines when they got back to the table, and Lena faltered as she overhead Sam and Alex’s conversation.
“Lena might not be the sire to my pup, but she is the other parent, Alex,” Sam stressed with conviction and soft eyes. “Ruby is as much Lena’s daughter as she is mine. We’ve raised her together and we’ll continue to do that with or without anyone else in our lives. I need you to understand that if you’re really interested in dating me. If it’s too much to take–”
“Hey, no, I totally respect that,” Alex cut in with sharply tensing eyebrows. “Platonic love is still love, and I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes. Kara and I aren’t technically blood related, but you bet your ass she’s my real sister and I’d fight anyone who said otherwise.”
They both jumped at the sound of Kara clearing her throat, and Lena followed her into the adjacent seats to nibble at her cold meal.
Their date night came to an end before the time that most people went out on a Saturday night, but Ruby invited the neighbors over to watch a movie after the arcade.
Ruby’s enthusiasm rescued them from what could have been an uncomfortable evening. She cut up paper to create movie tickets, popped a lot of bags of popcorn and lined up her stuffed animals on the couch to fill most of the seats.
Sitting between Barnaby duck and Grey Whiskers the Rabbit was a much safer place than anywhere near Kara’s lap — and Lena moved gradually closer to that danger zone during the fifty-eight minutes of cartoon blathering on screen.
Lena still suffered from a literal itch she needed to scratch and it was much worse without the distraction of the busy arcade environment.
What was even more agonizing was Kara’s commitment to watching the entire film and not bothering to cop a feel in the dark after Ruby fell asleep in her blanket fort on the floor. They somehow let the movie drone on to completion, and after taking a break to tuck Ruby into bed, Sam put on a second movie.
“Drinks everyone?” Sam brought out the good wine glasses and picked a celebratory rosé from her collection.
Lena knew the wine would make her skin more flushed and still reached for the glass dramatically. “I thought you would never ask. I thought we were going to sit here in the dark, parched and bored.”
“Would it be more entertaining to get to know some more details about us?” Kara asked and shifted to sit at an angle that brought her knee up and emphasized the large attribute between her thighs.
Lena gulped a mouthful of her drink and balked at the idea of actual communication. “Probably not, but let’s explore that anyway. Are you both as genuinely kind as you come off?”
“We try to be,” Alex answered and raised one shoulder in a shrug. “We had a nontraditional upbringing. Our single omega mom really drilled good habits into us from a young age.”
That intrigued Lena, though she wasn’t about to pry about how a single parent wound up taking Kara in with another mouth to feed. She side-eyed her neighbor a little more closely after that.
“How often do you both go on dates, and how long ago was your last serious relationship?” Sam asked, holding back no punches as she narrowed her eyes at Alex.
“I’ve been too busy over the last year to really date, what with bouncing around for my job and looking for a long-term position. My last serious relationship ended about two years ago.” Alex looked to Kara for confirmation and took the questions in stride.
“Why didn’t that relationship work out?” Lena inquired so that Sam didn’t have to do it.
“Wow, you two don’t hold anything back, huh?” Kara laughed, totally at ease with their tough interrogation. She draped one arm over the back of the couch to make herself at home and bit her lip from their intense eye contact.
“Nope.” Sam directed her answer towards both of them with a wave of her wine glass. “You had better get used to that if you plan to stick around.”
Alex swallowed whatever feelings she had with a gulp of wine. “It came down to one disagreement. I wanted pups in my future, and she didn’t. You can’t compromise on that, so we were fundamentally incompatible.”
Sam comforted Alex with a light pat to her knee, and Lena turned her full attention on Kara. She raised her brow and waited for her to share more about her history.
Kara tipped her head to the side as if considering her words and puffed out her cheeks before finally answering. “I haven’t gone on a date in about six months. My last relationship wasn’t really that great. We were just too different.”
“Meaning what exactly?” Lena pressed and narrowed her keen eyes in suspicion.
Kara sagged and peered at the remaining wine in her glass. “Well, I preferred to spend all my free time with her, and she preferred to spend hers at clubs and with other alphas.”
“That’s rough.” Sam winced and cleared the heavy atmosphere between them all. “Okay, we need to lighten things up. What zodiac signs are you?”
“Oh god, don’t tell me you believe that stuff.” Alex chuckled and glanced around when nobody else shared her amusement.
“Someone’s not going to get laid with that attitude,” Sam dryly stated and stared at her drink like Alex had personally offended her with that remark.
“Virgo,” Alex blurted in sudden desperation to correct her mistake.
“I’m a Leo,” Kara proudly stated, and held her head high so that her blonde hair bounced and framed her face like a golden mane.
“That makes perfect sense,” Lena murmured under her breath as she considered what a beast Kara was in the bedroom. She stared for too long through the dark canopy of her lashes and her pheromones sweetened the air with a faint, promiscuous scent that Kara inhaled immediately.
The front of the alpha’s pants tented slightly and Lena placed a blanket over their laps to get cozy. Nobody knew where her hand landed except for Kara, and the excited throb of her cock pressed into Lena’s palm.
Lena rubbed her fingers into the steepling heat and smirked at the changing look on Kara’s face. She casually massaged the bulge and sidled closer with her feet tucked up under the blanket to give her hand plenty of room beneath the fabric.
“Guess what I am,” Sam prompted with a devious smile that slipped off her face as Alex took a guess.
“Aries?” Alex asked and inched to the edge of her seat.
“Do I seem unhinged to you?” Sam asked and flared her nostrils in offense.
Amid their playful back and forth, Lena silently unzipped Kara’s pants and eased her fingertips under the material. She grazed her fingers over the expanding girth and teased around the thickened brim as she blinked innocently up at Kara.
“Any idea what my sign is?”
“Oh, I’m not falling into that trap.” Kara forced a wide grin onto her face and tried to still the rock of her hips.
“Where would you prefer to fall? Into my bed?” Lena whispered, careful to keep her voice low as she leaned into Kara’s side and teased the wet little divot at the tip of her glans.
“How about mine this time?” Kara raised her brows like she was intent on negotiating, and used a sleight of hand to tuck herself back into her pants after Lena tried to free her beneath the blanket.
They didn’t say another word to each other as Lena stood up first to take their wine glasses to the kitchen. It gave Kara a brief reprieve to control her arousal, and Lena was sure it was all going as planned until she stepped into the room to motion for Kara to make her exit.
Everything would have been fine if Kara hadn’t inadvertently zipped the blanket into her fly. She dragged the blanket off the couch as she made her first stride and Alex choked on her wine as she spotted the problem. Sam’s eyes lit up as she realized what had been going on and Lena died inside as her best friend swung to gawk at her in the doorway.
“So, this is what you do when we have guests in our home?” Sam teased just to mortify Lena. “No wonder you’re trying to sneak off instead of doing the adult thing and saying you’re going to bed.”
“I am not.” Lena’s defensive tone warbled as she guiltily ducked her head and pressed her chin to her chest. “I’m going to Kara’s place.”
All eyes landed on the alpha, who pointedly avoided her sister's scandalized face and spun towards the wall. After two unsuccessful attempts of trying to free the blanket from her zip she gave up and flung the whole thing over her shoulder like a makeshift cape.
“Well on that note, good night, guys.” Kara shed her embarrassment as she swaggered over to where Lena stood to take her hand with a remarkable amount of confidence for someone wearing a toga over her clothes. “It was a fun double date, but I think we could all use some one-on-one time to get better acquainted.”
“Is that what we’re calling fooling around in my living room?” Sam inquired with mischievous glee on her face. She grinned at Lena like she was never going to let her live it down, and tapped her finger thoughtfully on the stem of her glass.
“Ask Alex,” Kara uttered and pointed to where her sister sat still and apprehensive. “She’s had that pillow on her lap since before you offered her wine.”
Lena’s wicked cackle drowned out Alex’s indignant sputter. They didn’t stick around for the chaos they caused, and Lena felt the inexplicable sensation of flutters in her stomach when Kara backed her up against her front door to kiss her while she unlocked it.
Lena reciprocated with a bite on the mouth and by groping the front of Kara’s pants. She popped open the button above the zip and used the stuck fabric to tug Kara into the hallway.
Kara had the foresight to swing the door shut behind her, and Lena had to wonder if it was because she sensed what would come next.
“This better not give you the wrong impression. I normally don’t do this after one date.” Lena dropped to her knees right there in the foyer, and took Kara’s pants and boxers with her on the way down.
Blanket be damned, nothing was going to stop her from wrapping her lips around Kara’s cock, not even the little fact that she had never done this for anyone she previously dated.
“Well, that doesn’t surprise me since the last one you went on was over five years ago.”
Kara’s grin faltered the moment Lena took hold of her cock with a grip that threatened to do more damage than pleasure.
“Oh, Sam’s in deep shit for telling you that.” Lena loosened her fingers to glide her warm palm up Kara’s shaft.
She stroked from base to tip and was fascinated by how fast Kara’s guard dropped from the barest exhalation across her glans.
Kara’s erection strained already, plump and eager to reach Lena’s parted lips.
The sensual glide of her tongue bathed the large helmet and Lena puckered with a startled little moan as she tasted Kara for the first time. Whatever she was expecting, it wasn’t to enjoy it, and it bothered her how eagerly she stuffed her mouth with Kara’s dripping dick.
“What else did you find out about me?”
Choosing that moment to suck harder probably made it difficult for Kara to think.
Lena was proud of herself for the effect she was having and massaged the thickset veins that pulsed along Kara’s member.
She jerked her with minimalist wrist action to squeeze at her base, and flicked her tongue beneath the wide brim.
“That you—fuck—that you’re probably the smartest person in this town. You’re fiercely loyal and one heck of a parent.”
Kara swayed where she stood and her hand landed on the back of Lena’s head. It helped to encourage Lena’s loud slurping pulls and steadied Kara in the process.
Lena smirked up at her date and hollowed her cheeks to increase the silky suction. She rubbed Kara against her inner cheeks and worshipped the underside of her cock with languid rolls of her tongue that ended when she decided to needle Kara.
“Is this your way of trying to stroke my ego so I continue?”
She punctuated her question with some fast tugs on Kara’s cock and raised a seductive brow.
“You and I both know you’d never do anything you didn’t want to do,” Kara replied with the kind of certainty that made Lena blush.
“You’re right, and you’re lucky you’re not one of those things,” Lena shot back and ambitiously took Kara into her throat.
She gagged once between labored breaths and went for it again with all the horny determination of an omega with pent up desires. All those years without sex had felt so easy when she had no idea how mind blowing a good fuck could be.
Kara had completely changed her views on it overnight, and Lena was still coming to terms with that.
“Since you obviously want to know everything about me, I’ll let you in on a little secret. You’re the first one I’ve ever let past my lips.”
It felt sinful to enjoy the way Kara’s hips jutted forward in surprise, and her gobsmacked look brought a grin to Lena’s face.
“Is there anything juicy you want to spill?”
There was only one thing Kara seemed intent on spilling and it wasn’t information. Lena’s confession brought Kara right to the brink and all it took was a single, wet kiss right on her tip to make her go off like a fountain.
Warm spurts of seed splashed Lena’s lips and she greedily opened her mouth for Kara to slide inside with shuddery groans of bliss.
Lena sucked at the tip for more and stroked the flavor of Kara’s orgasm over her tongue. She admired the pearls of glistening fluid and pushed it to the back of throat.
Kara gaped down at her in shock, riveted to the sight of Lena on her knees. “Oh my god—you swallowed it all. Lena.”
The pride of bringing Kara to shuddering orgasm went straight to Lena’s head. She puckered for a little while longer before sitting back to let the trembles wear off.
Once that happened, Kara pulled her onto her feet and started undressing her right in the main part of the house. They clawed the clothes off of each other, leaving a trail behind them as Kara threw Lena’s bra over her shoulder and hoisted her into her buff arms.
The chivalry of carrying her upstairs turned far more salacious when Lena rocked into Kara’s hard abs and accidentally pushed her cunt onto the large glans that was angling upwards.
It nudged between her pussy lips to demand entrance and Kara penetrated her deeper with every quickened step she took. Lena realized it was on purpose by the time they stumbled into the hallway upstairs and stopped.
“Either I’m clenching a lot more tonight or you’ve gotten bigger,” Lena groaned into Kara’s neck.
She clutched at her shoulders as the alpha pinned her to the wall to test out her theory with a few self-indulgent bucks. The slippery glide took effort and Kara rolled her hips to make room for herself in Lena’s enveloping heat.
“You can’t just give me the best blow job of my life and expect it not to go to my head.” Kara’s hot breath puffed against Lena’s ear and she dug her fingers into the shapely swell of Lena’s ass to control her undulations.
They synchronized their movements while gazing into one another's eyes and Lena shook from the pleasurable friction of Kara’s rigid brim spreading her walls.
“It was meant to affect your ego, not your cock,” Lena grunted, her lower lip trembling as Kara slid her thumb into the wet spread of her cunt lips to massage her clit.
“Just accept that you’re lucky it affected both, and you love how good it feels to be fucked by an alpha who can’t get enough of you.” Kara bragged without coming off as egotistical and started to thrust.
With the slam of her hips holding Lena up, Kara could palm at her tits and rub her nipples.
Lena couldn’t bring herself to agree if only to save face, which she wasn’t doing anyway given how breathless her moans were becoming. She bounced herself by gripping at Kara’s shoulders and all but smothered the alpha with her tits as she focused on her approaching orgasm.
.
“So, I take it you’re asking me out on a second date,” Lena gasped as Kara lightly bit at her nipple and sucked the little bud into her mouth.
The fast flutter of her tongue coincided with the strum of her thumb over Lena’s clit, and for a wonderfully erotic moment it felt like the two were connected while Kara rutted into her harder.
“Would you prefer I pulled out to discuss it?” Kara stilled her hips all of a sudden and Lena sank heavily onto her shaft and remained suspended on it.
Lena hated how good Kara looked with a smug grin on her face. She scraped her nails down the alpha’s arms as she rode hard on Kara’s cock. The revolution of her hips wasn’t as smooth without Kara working her open and she clenched spitefully to enrobe Kara in her intimate silk.
“After the number of tea sachets and other preventatives I bought this morning, you had better not pull out at all,” Lena threatened. “I don’t know what you did to me, but since you touched me, all I’ve wanted is to take your seed.”
“Fuck, Lena, that’s so hot–” Kara’s groan was the prelude to the continuous collision of her quads striking Lena between the thighs.
The rapid plunge of her cock lasted all of five seconds and then stalled as Kara emptied warm spurts of seed inside Lena’s unprotected cunt.
Kara almost looked embarrassed by her quick finish, and Lena regained some control by grinding herself onto the base of Kara’s cock to work for her own orgasm. She keened as it hit her, and every contraction pulled more seed out of Kara’s still throbbing shaft.
Lena snared Kara by the chin to stare down at her imperiously and tsked to rile the alpha. “It’s a good thing I know you have the stamina to continue. One round isn’t going to satisfy me.”
Kara took it for the challenge it was and growled against Lena’s lips. The kiss would leave their lips bruised, and Lena nipped and sucked at Kara’s pout to make sure of it.
The sense of loss she experienced the moment Kara shoved open her bedroom door to lay Lena out on her bed was startling.
She felt her entrance spasm around nothing and wondered if Kara enjoyed the way her pussy remained a little stretched open. Lena kept her legs spread to admire the blushing rouge of her cunt and the drizzle of pearlescent excitement that coated her folds. She rolled onto all fours in preparation of being relentlessly railed all night, and whined for Kara to mount her so she didn’t have to actually beg.
The mattress sank with Kara’s knees landing on it, and she aligned herself with a few slow swipes of her plump tip between Lena’s glossy partition. She let the head of her cock rest against Lena’s entrance and smoothed her palms over Lena’s hips before grasping them firmly. “Good girl, take all of my cock into your pussy.”
The praise encouraged Lena to back herself onto Kara’s thick rod, and she moaned at Kara handling her cunt as she slotted deeper. Two fingers grazed either side of Lena’s clit, and the push and pull of their movements stimulated her little pearl without much effort.
One of the framed paintings on the wall began to shake, and Lena’s body scorched with desires that could immolate her. She wanted to be entwined with Kara for hours, and her repressed sexual needs made her vocal about that. Kara did things to her clit that turned her cunt into a waterworks of arousal and gushing seed. Her whines pushed from her chest to the tempo of each thrust, and she achieved release just from listening to Kara’s praise.
“I want to be your good girl. Your very good girl who comes on your cock over and over again.” Lena blushed from her insane rambling and dropped her back while lifting her ass higher.
Kara fed off the silent plea and willingness to present herself. She let into her harder and the fuller strokes massaged Lena internally in ways that lubricated her sex beyond the norm. Her pussy loved the sensations, and she hung onto a pillow in contentment.
“In that case, I’m going to make you come all night just to prove to you that you’re my good girl.” Kara smoothed her hands over the dips in Lena’s back and lunged in unremitting, deep thrusts. “Is this pussy just for me, Lena? Is that why it’s extremely wet?”
Lena admitted a whole lot just by holding still to absorb the rough collision of Kara’s tip against her cervix. Her channel tightened in the hopes of milking Kara’s seed.
Having occasional wild sex with her neighbor could be considered a form of self-improvement for Lena—and she could do that without any real commitment, but her skin burned hotter when she thought about confessing that her pussy was wet because of Kara.
“Yes, it’s your pussy,” Lena gasped mid-moan, taken aback by the realization that her walls were crumbling all around her.
She used to consider herself more secure than Fort Knox, but Kara made her personal defenses feel more like a castle’s ruins. Kara could wander in at any time, and strange flowers grew in the wreckage.
“Please, I want your seed and your knot in me,” Lena begged with the most pathetic whine. “Please, Kara.”
All of her fears withered away as her cunt went into full-blown spasms of desperation. Kara groaned at the locking sensation of Lena’s pussy gripping her so tight and succumbed to both pleas at once. She slid the deepest she could fit, and flooded Lena’s cunt with seed. Her cock expanded to keep it all inside and she bent over to kiss Lena in a gentler form of praise.
Lena went still as the knot took, heavy and thick between her pussy lips, and she recognized that she wanted more of this – not just for the night, but for weeks and months and maybe even years. She didn’t take herself too seriously because she wasn’t ready to discuss those reflections, although she did inwardly accept that she was looking forward to Kara asking her on a second date.

I'm happy you enjoyed that part. ☺️ Thank you!
2023-03-06 22:38:48 +0000 UTCChrist, the blanket scene. That's the funniest thing I've ever read!
2023-03-06 16:09:52 +0000 UTCThank you! It's a fine line, but she's definitely stepped over it several times and maybe there's no going back now. I feel like Lena's rivalry with Alex might grow a bit more, and Kara will playfully side with her. Yeah, their future living arrangements will be interesting! I'm not sure what would happen there yet. A little nod to Supergirl - Kara has a blanket cape. 😁 But not the dodging skills.
2023-03-03 00:08:09 +0000 UTCThank you for the nice comments! I hoped to make this comedic and light enough while also dealing with some more serious themes. It's fun writing Ruby with Lena (since Lena is her mom but also not, and sometimes makes questionable parenting choices). Lena has a lot of emotions to navigate and I definitely want to write a part 3 to cover that progression. 😁
2023-03-03 00:02:15 +0000 UTCYeah, there's more backstory for all of them which would be good to cover in a part 3. Sam has a better outlook in a lot of ways than I think Lena does, which will make sense whenever I write more and a little bit more backstory can be explored. ☺️ I'm happy you enjoyed the Alex and Sam interactions - I really wanted more of that in part 1 and will def. include more in a future part 3. Thank you!
2023-03-02 23:57:45 +0000 UTCThank you!!! Haha, Ruby is a free thinker, but I'm sure she's going to be less adventurous next time. A double wedding would be cute! 😁
2023-03-02 23:55:20 +0000 UTCThank you!! I really love the different dynamics here, too. ☺️
2023-03-02 23:54:34 +0000 UTCShe's gonna fight those feelings tooth and nail. ☺️ At least this Kara is very patient. I think there's so many opportunities to explore some interesting dynamics here because of the platonic love between Sam and Lena - and how they'll co-parent while developing relationships with their neighbors. It's possible Sam will have certain feelings in response to Ruby going off with Lena and Kara at some point. Single omega Eliza raised two considerate & competitive alphas. I came up with a bit more backstory for Sam and Lena before writing this one, and yeah, when I explore this one further in a part 3, it'll involve Lena working on some deeper trust issues. But also lighter moments, so this doesn't become too heavy. It'll be fun to write Ruby spouting out the pieces of advice her parents have given her over the years. Definitely a big change, but Ruby's probably the most receptive of them all. Thank you!! I really would love to write more for this one. I hope you enjoy re-reading!
2023-03-02 23:53:56 +0000 UTCI love the careful line Lena’s walking here. So obviously falling yet wanting to be so in denial at the same time. Them teaming up against Alex was VERY CUTE and I love Alex and Sam bonding 🥹 Ruby’s gunna grow up in a two household family but in the best way???? Two bedrooms full of toys ready for tea parties in her future I can see it. I DIED at Kara throwing the blanket over her shoulder what a DORK! Same with Lena beaning her right in the head. Definitely gotta sign up for self defense Kara you’ll need the practice 😂😂

2023-02-28 05:52:44 +0000 UTCthank you for the update, author-san! i thought this was a very fun continuation to the first chapter. ruby doing stellar work just by existing, remains one of the best in the story! lol great to see some progression with sam and alex. also fun to see kara just trying her darnedest and lena just honestly in unchartered territory but she's definitely getting lost in the sauce. would love to see their second date and how they progress with true snark and the banter!
