After living in the suburbs for five long months, Lena had become accustomed to nosy neighbors and how they disrupted her mornings on a regular basis. The local cycling club, the PTA moms, the omegas that sold candles and Tupperware — they all seemed to share a common pact to make Lena homicidal before her first cups of coffee.
Two days after the block party, Brad Klegger knocked on the door to persuade her to join the cycling group. He grinned at her with far too much energy and unclipped his reflective helmet to chat. “Hey Lena, I noticed you have a bike in your garage. You should come along for our Saturday morning ride.”
Lena had been awake since four in the morning with her two colicky Kryptonians. She pushed out her chin at Brad and wracked her exhausted brain for an excuse. “Oh, I already ride two, maybe three times a day. Sometimes more if Kara is in the mood.”
Brad pinched his thick eyebrows together in confusion and tucked his helmet under his arm. “Stationary bike? It’s not quite the same work-out.”
“Trust me, Brad, I feel it in my glutes for hours afterward.” Lena shifted a baby on her hip and glared at him until he retreated down front steps. “Have a nice day.”
It might have been a bit extreme on her part, but later that morning, she backed the car over the bike just to be certain he wouldn’t ask her again.
Over the next few weeks, Lena found herself forced into situations she would have happily avoided for the rest of her life.
Imogen bullied her into attending a Tupperware party, and when the presenter came out with sets of knives, Lena tucked both of her hands under her thighs to avoid the temptation.
Don’t test me today, ladies.
She survived the party just to arrive home to a bunch of PTA moms chatting up Kara. They were raising money for new laptops to support the local school district, and Lena anonymously donated the amount in full just so they would get the fuck off her lawn.
To make her life just the littlest bit worse, the twins began teething at the same time, and their friends had to head back to the city to deal with a crisis.
That put an end to any hope of getting a weekend alone with her mate, and then the worst happened. Kara signed them up for a biweekly baby-and-me class with all of the omegas in the neighborhood that had children. She came home with the flier just as Lena finished pureeing peas for a soup that Elle threw up at high speed exorcist levels. One minute the kitchen was white, the next it was splattered green and Lena had some of it on her face.
“Oh, oh, Elle!” Kara was fast at the draw with a dish towel to wipe their baby’s face and paused in front of Lena as if she wasn’t sure she should clean her up.
Lena peevishly batted her eyelashes and pulled the dish towel from Kara’s hand. “That’s okay, Elle, I feel the same way about your mom signing us up for the silly baby-and-me class.”
She lifted both twins from their high chairs and carried them over to the rug to play with their toys. Elle cuddled into her after the regurgitation incident and Lena patted the baby on the back.
Kara followed them with a mystified frown on her face and the paperwork for the class still in hand. “Wait, you don’t want to do the class? I thought you would love it. The activities are supposed to be great for brain development.”
“Maybe I would feel differently if we went to a class outside of a 20 mile radius,” Lena griped and looked down into her daughter’s eyes that contained the same flecks of blue silver as Kara’s irises. “Who all is involved with this group?”
“Gretchen Bauer, Tara Klegger, Marjorie Clearwater—“
The list went on, but none of the names jumped out at Lena as problematic, at least until Kara came to the end.
“And Sasha from next door.”
“What, did she kidnap someone else’s baby?” Lena snatched the flier from Kara’s hand and let Elle crawl off to join her sister in picking up stacking toys.
“She signed her niece up, and since her brother-in-law is a full time working omega, she’s helping him out.” Kara placed her hands on her hips, all fired up with enthusiasm over participating in the group.
“We’re hosting the first session at our house,” Kara added and whipped around the kitchen to finish cleaning up.
“Oh god, when?” Lena huffed and eyed the mess the twins were making with a tub of their snacks they discovered left out.
“Thirty minutes from now?” Kara double-checked the time and breezed through wiping down the countertops.
“Hello neighbors,” Sasha sang from the door to the kitchen, where she must have let herself in through the garage.
Lena glanced down at her puke-covered top and general harried appearance.
As per usual, Sasha wore tight yoga pants, this time in black, and a bra top that Lena would never be convinced should count as an actual shirt. Sasha also carried a little one who seemed to be in the same age range as the twins.
“This is Mackenzie,” Sasha announced in a faux-maternal voice and bounced the baby in her arms. “She’s just a little older than your girls, and I’m sure they’re going to be best friends.”
The other omegas began to arrive, which gave Lena no time to change, and soon she was seated outside on a blanket in the same circle with her neighbors.
Elle sat in her lap, and Kara held onto Lara as Brad Klegger of all people stood up to begin the class.
“Normally my wife Tara does this, but she’s got a cold so I’m afraid you’re stuck with me for next two hours.”
Lena shot Kara a murderous look that the alpha blatantly ignored by hiding her face against Lara’s tummy.
Lena would have whispered a few idle threats if Brad hadn’t lifted a rattle out of a box and encouraged all the adults to take something for their kids. The harsh sound of bells being shaken worsened when Sasha picked up a tambourine and slapped it louder than necessary.
The impending headache brought a twitch to Lena’s eyelid, and she glared at her mate when Brad began to sing off-key, “Welcome to our Happy Class, we have sunshine and green grass.”
In all her years as a Luthor, not even Lillian could have prepared Lena for the horror of having to participate in a suburban baby class.
Brad sang the same thing over and over and encouraged the parents to join in while they swayed with their little ones.
Elle looked disturbed by the sounds and gurgled up at Lena, and Lara had scrunched her tiny fists up and warbled like she was attempting to sing along.
“Come on Lena, your babies love to hear you sing. It helps with their self-esteem,” Brad cheerfully stated, and shook a rattle at her like he thought it would encourage her to repeat the same nonsense.
“Alright, let's start incorporating things that your baby likes to do. Any suggestions?” Brad asked, pointedly staring at Lena like he hoped she would volunteer something.
Lena pressed her lips into a tight line to spite him and soothed Elle by rocking her at a much gentler pace.
“Clap!” Gretchen called out and held her child's hands to help him along as he wiggled in her lap.
“Yes that’s perfect,” Brad laughed and switched up the verse minimally as he began to clap his own hands. “Welcome to our Happy Class, we sing all day and clap our hands! Welcome to our Happy Class–”
“I hate you all, so kiss my ass,” Lena whispered under her breath. It would have been the perfect crime if Kara hadn’t gasped.
Sasha’s niece tried to parrot her by loudly hissing, “Az, az!” and a few other mothers frowned at the child in confusion.
“She must have heard a bee,” Sasha laughed.
“I see one right now,” Lena shrewdly stated, and stared at her neighbor until she understood the implication of B—
“Be careful, Lena, or you might get stung,” Sasha warned, carrying on their conversation at a level that the rest of the dense parents wouldn’t pick up on.
They clapped their hands several times for little William, Gretchen’s son, and Brad moved on to another song that he played on his guitar.
“Isn’t it great? That we all have each ooh-other – and in and each in every way, we all have a lot to share — yes, we all have so much to give this bright, blue world—”
As much as the lyrics made Lena cringe, the tune worked its way into her brain, and she resented that she would be hearing it in her sleep.
Kara added her voice to the song, and Lena loathed her mate for having an exceptionally soothing talent, and how it gripped her heart when her alpha sang bright, blue world.
At the perfect moment, one of the babies in the group interrupted it all by pooping his diaper, and Lena was relieved for the chance to take a break. She headed over to the tables where Kara put out snacks, including an entire cheeseboard that they hadn’t served to their friends.
Lena’s head was temporarily filled with fantasies of taking a pregnancy test, revealing a positive result to Kara, and spending the whole of naptime working off the stress of months. She munched on a cracker with Monterey Jack while Elle gnawed on her finger, massaging her gums and seeming more entertained than during the sing-along.
It might have been the fact that her guard was down that made Sasha choose that minute to pounce on Kara.
“You were so great. I had no idea you had such an amazing voice.”
“Yeah, Kara, you’re quite talented,” Brad praised as he removed his guitar. “Now all you have to do is convince your wife to join in from time to time.”
Lena inhaled half of the dry cracker by accident as she indignantly grunted, and for once Kara seemed to understand the shade being thrown her way. She coughed into a napkin as Kara turned to regard Brad with Lara still on her hip.
“I doubt any of us would have the energy to sing all day if we spent the night taking care of teething twins,” Kara pointed out and thumbed her glasses back into place on her nose as she infused the air with proud pheromones. “Lena has a beautiful voice. Only her lullabies settle our pups down to sleep.”
“I’m not surprised that Lena’s secret talent is putting people to sleep. I almost doze off every time she talks to me,” Sasha uttered with deliberate disregard for what Kara had said. She lifted a piece of cheese Lena was eyeing up and popped it into her mouth with a smirk.
To Lena's dismay, her mate's compliments just seemed to register to Brad, who sidled up beside her and grinned as he draped an arm over her shoulder. "I would be so fortunate to have an omega who sang to my pups. Tara likes to sing during these classes, but she doesn't serenade us much at home."
Lena rotated herself to step out from Brad’s hold, but it seemed his presence counterbalanced Sasha’s ability to keep Kara’s attention.
That one overly familiar touch put Kara in defense mode, and she postured in front of Lena during the final group activities.
Any time Brad ventured over to hand Lena a soft toy for the girls, Kara stepped in to grab it first, and most of the other omega moms looked put off by the open jealousy.
For once it seemed like some equilibrium was restored. Over the next few days, several of the omegas who used to show up unannounced stayed clear of their house, and the uninterrupted mornings meant they had more time for one another.
Kara tended to their twins and made breakfast for all of them while Lena got the luxury of extra sleep.
Two mornings in a row, she woke to breakfast in bed, and Lena showed her appreciation by sucking more than just her smoothie.
Finally, she experienced the happiness she longed for since moving into their hellish neighborhood - but good things never lasted long for anyone with the last name Luthor.
She should have known her luck would change on the third day when Kara burnt the toast because Elle had filled her diaper. Then the mailman delivered a package meant for Sasha, who was inexplicably away from home, in spite of her car being in the driveway.
Lara shrieked all morning, and no matter how many times Kara froze Lara’s binky with her frost breath, it wasn’t enough to soothe the little one's sore gums. Lena’s distressed scent wasn’t helping, and it broke her heart to see her babies cry.
“I’ll take them for a walk in the stroller. It always makes them feel better,” Kara insisted in an attempt to salvage their afternoon. She kissed Lena on the doorstep before heading off, and Lena sighed at how empty and quiet the house was without them.
She convinced herself that once the twins settled, they could have a little date night, and took a quick shower in the hopes it would lift her mood.
Twenty minutes later, she was admiring herself in a dress she hadn’t worn in a year, and fondly remembering how enamored Kara was whenever she wore it.
Conscious of the time, Lena finished off her make-up and applied a scarlet shade of lipstick. She expected Kara to be home any second and opened the door to greet her mate only to see Brad holding his daughter all wrong as the little one flailed and cried.
Lena rushed across her lawn without a second thought and Brad glanced at her helplessly as he handed the baby over with a panicked smile. “I don’t know what’s wrong, Tara asked me to feed her while she picked up groceries, so I did, and once she finished, she just started screaming.”
“Did she eat enough? Have you burped her?” Lena asked, going full mom-mod as she cradled little Melanie to her chest as she swayed to soothe her.
“Don’t they just burp themselves?” Brad asked in bewilderment, his shoulders slumping as he realized how useless he was at caring for his own kid.
“Watch me. You hold her here on your shoulder.” Lena hoisted the pup higher and rubbed in slow circles that became gentle pats.
Melanie’s sniffles became quieter, and she burped against the cloth that Lena had grabbed from Brad’s diaper bag and arranged over her dress.
Brad reached for a blanket from the stroller and stood close to drape it over Melanie. “You’re just a natural with babies, aren’t you? Born to be a mother.”
“Oh, no, I was born to be a scientist, but this is similar enough. You just keep experimenting until you find out what works.” Lena swayed and bounced at the right intervals, demonstrating another technique that soothed the little one.
“I still think you’re Super mom,” Brad grinned dopily and stood closer as Lena continued to rock the baby.
“You have no idea,” Lena chuckled and passed the seven-month-old into Brad’s arms.
In the middle of that, and as they still huddled together in conversation, Kara wheeled up the stroller with their twins.
“She really is Super mom,” Kara stressed, her face heated and red and comically tight.
The whole incident came off as bizarre because Kara had been well out of normal earshot
range and Lena instantly knew that super hearing was involved.
“Maybe you should head home to your own wife now,” Kara suggested with a thinning veneer of patience and her arms positioned across her chest to emphasize the build of her biceps.
Lena knew that pose from times when Kara faced off against different villains. She fought to keep a straight face as her mate postured and doused her in alpha pheromones.
Brad lifted his daughter from Lena’s arms with an uncomfortable laugh. “I was just going to do that. Lena gave me some great tips, and I’m very thankful.”
Lena thought that would be the end of it, but after unbuckling the twins from their matching stroller seats and carrying them indoors, Kara still seemed high-strung.
“There’s something off with Brad, isn’t there?” Kara asked all of a sudden, her eyebrows furrowed and lips pinched like she was trying to hold off on blurting something else.
Lena glanced at her mate with curiosity and waited her out to see what was going on in her head and why this particular alpha threatened her so much.
“Like what parent doesn’t know how to burp their own pup?” Kara pressed after Lena remained quiet. She huffed out a laugh that was forced and perfectly swaddled their girls to put them down for a nap.
“There’s actually a shocking number of alphas out there who have no idea how to care for their children,” Lena pointed out and poured her mate a glass of alien brew that they kept well hidden in the freezer so guests never accidentally poisoned themselves.
“Yeah, but his wife is supposed to teach classes on this stuff. Maybe he doesn’t even have a wife–” Kara blurted, her eyes widening like she was about to call Alex to do a full background sweep on their neighbor.
“Kara, you met her at the block party,” Lena whispered with a slight smirk.
It figured that the one time she didn’t try to foster any jealousy in her mate, it resulted in affecting her the most regardless.
“Well then if he has a wife, he doesn’t need you. You’re my wi—” The conviction in Kara’s voice wavered at her slip and she corrected herself without flinching. “Woman.”
“Your woman?” Lena scoffed and snatched the drink out of Kara’s hand before she even managed to sip it. “What year do you think this is, 1950?”
They were getting into argument territory, and Lena furrowed her brows as she waited on Kara’s prompt answer. The topic of marriage was already a tender spot in their relationship, and Lena would have been upset if Kara wasn’t acting so adorably possessive.
“You know what I mean, my claim is on your neck,” Kara blurted, managing to ruin Lena’s good mood with her dense double standards. “It’s a symbol that some alphas in this neighborhood need to learn to respect. It means you’re mine.”
“And what about all of the omegas who drop off casseroles and baked goods, and who constantly ask for your help? And Sasha, who walks around with her yogussy out?” Lena arched a sharp, thick eyebrow at her mate, and her bottom lip quivered from the hurt feelings she boxed up for months at a time.
“Is that why you dislike her so much, because you think I’m attracted to her?” Kara’s revelation was a long time coming and she stared at Lena, utterly dumbfounded by the assumption.
The disgust in Kara’s tone was honestly cathartic for Lena to hear, and if she hadn’t left her wounds to fester, she probably wouldn’t have hissed, “Well, are you?”
“No!” Kara spat, her jaw practically unhinged as she waved her hands through the air. “I just feel sorry for her alone in that big house. I was trying to be nice–”
“By baking her the cake you only make for my birthday? Do you even realize how much that hurt me?” Lena demanded, all of her quiet resentments spilling out now that they were finally discussing the things they should have addressed weeks ago.
“I wasn’t — I didn’t think it would matter, because I thought we were solid as a couple,” Kara admitted, the strength of her shoulders no match for the weight of her guilt. She hunched as she stared at Lena, as if finally piecing together some of her behavior and how it must have linked back to her own.
Lena sniffed at the contrite scent wafting from Kara and crossed her arms defensively to prolong their argument. “If we’re so solid, then why are you jealous of Brad?”
Kara’s entire spine went rigid at the mention of him, and she puffed up like she was ready to fly off and confront him. “Because he—Lena, he drapes himself all over you! He has no right to touch you like that. I mean, he—do you like him?”
The vulnerability in Kara’s eyes were as effective as her heat vision and Lena couldn’t bear to look directly at her. She set the glass of alien liquor on the counter and rattled off in offense, “The man doesn’t even have a chin, Kara! He can’t compete with you. No alpha can.”
“Then why don’t you want to get married?” Kara shouted, the raw emotion in her voice raising it by more than a few pitches.
“What? I never said–” Lena whispered, her shock momentarily robbing her of her anger until she sputtered, “You haven’t even asked.”
“March 13th – two years ago – you said that marriage is as out-dated as claiming and serves no purpose other than to legally bind an omega’s estate to an alpha’s,” Kara stated with one finger held up. She raised another as she began to pace the length of the kitchen, making it clear she had a whole list of instances in her head that must have haunted her during their whole relationship. “A year ago, right before you got pregnant with our pups, I gave you a gift. The moment you saw the little box you told me it better not be a ring, so I — I switched it out with a pair of earrings when you blinked. And then during your third trimester, Nia asked if you saw us getting married, and you told her that if two people love one another, they shouldn’t need a contract to keep them together–”
Lena opened her mouth in speechless confusion as Kara repeated her remarks word for word. She hadn’t forgotten what she said in the past, the statements had just slipped to the back of her mind quietly while her life changed around her with kids. They didn’t reflect her current feelings, and even back then they probably never had in the first place.
“Two years ago, we weren’t together.” Lena exhaled, all of their miscommunication coming back to bite her in the contrary ass. She would have poured herself a drink if her hands hadn’t started to tremble as obviously as her lower lip. “When you and I finally did fall into bed together, we didn’t talk about where the relationship was headed. We had been attracted to one another for so long that it felt as though we’d always been together. I already knew I was pregnant when you gave me those earrings. I just hadn’t told you yet because I didn’t want you to feel obligated to stay. You’re Supergirl. I couldn’t trap you in a life you didn’t choose.”
Kara made a pained sound and looked at Lena like she had said something so profoundly wrong that she couldn’t get past it. “I wasn’t trapped, Lena. I never have been. How could you think that? How could you not know that my greatest accomplishment in life was becoming your mate? This is everything I could want. Being Supergirl was the obligation, and of course I know people need me, but I need you. Maybe you hate our mundane lives here, but when I wake up beside you in this quiet little neighborhood, I’m happy. I have a family, and a home.”
Lena stared, dumbfounded by the vulnerability cracking Kara’s voice.
This life of raising their children in the suburbs was part of Kara’s dream — ranked higher even than becoming a Pulitzer-winning reporter at a national news agency and saving the world.
“Yes, I’m your family, and I’ll always be your family, Kara,” Lena whispered in fierce emphasis and slipped her arms around her mate to comfort her. “It’s just other people that are the problem.”
It reinforced her point that the chiming sound of their doorbell went off.
Had the twins not been napping, they could have easily ignored it, but Kara flew off down to the hall to silence the noise.
Lena caught up with her mate and eyed a bundle of flowers resting on their front mat with a card attached.
Kara opened the little envelope and scanned the lines faster than humanly possible, then blurted the message aloud:
Lena,
You’re truly every alpha’s fantasy? Meet me tonight at Pete’s bar and grill??? I can tell by your scent you’re receptive to my advances and I think it’s time we get to know each other on a more personal level?????????????????
There were no question marks, but Kara read it like there was an excess of them—and Lena was just as puzzled by the note with no signature.
“What the fuck?” Lena scoffed. “Kara, all of the people who live around here are deranged. I hope it’s not something in the water."
“That’s it!” Kara exclaimed and shredded the note into confetti. She at least had the sense to grab the bouquet and shut the door before immediately burning them to a crisp in her hands as she stormed through the house. She flung them through the backdoor to scatter in the breeze that she created with her breath and then spun around to announce, “I’m calling your mother!”
“What? Kara, I’m not having an affair.” Lena’s offended reek followed them all through the house. She glared at her mate with the strange fear Kara was about to tattle on her like an upset child.
“I know that. This alpha is expecting you to go to Pete’s tonight and we need a babysitter since I’m going with you,” Kara explained so seriously that it was reminiscent of all of their previous missions together when they used to save the world. Now Kara was posturing and puffing up with the intent to save their relationship, even though it wasn’t actually in any jeopardy.
“You want to stake out the place to see who’s making moves on me?” Lena drawled in an effort to conceal her arousal. It was inappropriate to be turned on at a time like this, yet witnessing Kara so assertive and dominant reminded Lena of her heroic persona.
“Exactly,” Kara asserted, her tone shifting straight into a friendlier one as she phoned Lena’s mother. “Lillian, hi, it’s Kara. How would you like to babysit the girls tonight?”
The sudden intrusive portal that sprang up in the living room answered that question, and Lillian strolled through as she tucked her phone into her pocket with a slow smirk. “I’ve waited months for this call, but I knew it would come. Where are my beautiful grandchildren and how long will you be gone?”
Lena rolled her eyes at her mother’s lofty attitude. “Probably just an hour. Kara is taking me on a date.”
“Just an hour?” Lillian sniffed as the lines near her mouth formed into a critical smile. “God, it’s lucky I ended up with grandchildren by accident or I would never have had them at all, would I?”
“Ah—we don’t like to call them accidents.” Kara cringed and placed her hands on her hips like she was gearing up to challenge Lillian’s wording.
That would have been interesting to watch, but Lena was grateful that Elle’s soft cries summoned them all into the nursery.
Lena scooped her baby up as Kara appeared in a flash with a bottle. Lillian snatched it right out of Kara’s grasp and opened her arms to receive the baby.
“Go and get yourselves ready,” Lillian cooed, keeping the judgment out of her voice as she cuddled her granddaughter and glanced at Lena. “You aren’t going out dressed like that, are you?”
Lena peered down at the dress she put on just for Kara. She sucked the inside of her cheek and hesitated before deciding to change due to her mother’s pressure. “No. I have another dress picked out.”
Lillian dismissed them with a wave of her hand and claimed the rocking chair to feed Elle.
“Thanks, Lillian. Our emergency numbers are on the fridge if you need us.” Kara waited until Elle stopped fussing and then headed into the bedroom to change.
They took turns getting ready for each other, and Kara emerged in a classic striped button down with the scent of an alpha cologne on her skin. Lena changed from flats into heels and picked another dress from the closet, dark red and short.
A sliver of anticipation traveled down Lena’s spine as Kara walked up to her and held out an earpiece that they hadn’t used since moving to the suburbs.
Lena pushed it into her ear and let her hair cover it as she gazed into Kara’s intense eyes and fixed her mate’s tie.
“Well, this is bringing back memories, I almost feel like a spy.”
“Tonight, that’s exactly what you are, and I’m your back-up,” Kara stressed, so full of aggression that her pheromones were already taking over the house. “I’ll fly us there so we don’t have to take a car together, and you can pretend you got a cab.”
“And what am I meant to do if someone actually shows up? Eat dinner and flirt?” Lena knew her questions would elicit a strong response. She just hadn’t bargained for how her own omega would enjoy it so thoroughly.
Kara snapped the frame of her glasses with the force that she used to push them up her nose and grunted at the suggestion. “Not if I can help it.” She had plenty of replacements in one of her bedside drawers, though she didn’t move to grab another pair as she caught Lena by the side of her jaw and kissed her like she wanted to bruise her lips.
The sensuous glide of Kara’s fingers traced the claim on Lena’s throat as she swayed into her mate’s arms. She would have felt as though they were flying even if they weren’t, and when they came back down to earth, she parted from her mate with a gasp.
They were standing in the back of an alley, and Kara motioned to the restaurant across the street where Lena was due to meet up with the mystery alpha.
“And where exactly will you be while I’m sitting there pretending to browse the menu?” Lena quirked an brow as she thought of Kara leaving her by herself to stake out the place.
This was only exciting if they stayed together, and the prospect of sitting down to eat with anyone other than her alpha sickened her.
“I’ll be at the bar, waiting,” Kara answered, as if that alone was enough of a threat to whatever idiot was trying to seduce her mate.
Lena nodded without glancing towards her mate and hurried off before anyone saw them together.
For a mom-and-pop restaurant in the middle of the town, it was furnished with comfortable booths. Lena slid onto one of the leather seats and ordered a glass of rosé from the waiter. Some of their neighbors sat at tables with their families. If Lena had arrived even a minute a later, she would have needed to join Kara at the bar for lack of available space.
Without much local entertainment, Pete’s bar and grill counted as an attraction. Lena could imagine herself years down the line sitting at one of the longer tables with a dozen kids. She peered towards the bar and saw how good Kara looked in her tight-fitting trousers. The intense meeting of their eyes, the rush of conspiring together as partners, it all took her back to the earlier days of their relationship.
In that one glance, she knew they would populate the earth with their tiny Kryptonians—and if Kara knocked her up enough times, they would need to move out of their current neighborhood and buy a larger house.
“Perfect incentive,” Lena muttered to herself and inadvertently to Neil, the divorcee who lived down the street and lusted after her at the block party.
It took her by surprise to see him standing in front her table with his small children. Assuming he was the secret creeper that put the flowers on their front porch, this was meant to be a risqué rendezvous, presumably without their pups or other witnesses.
“Here are some quarters for the gumball machine.” Neil emptied his pocket of change and passed it to his overjoyed kids. “I’m just going to say hello to Miss Luthor for a minute.”
“Soon to be Mrs.,” Kara muttered in her earpiece, and that little possessive comment brought a genuine smile to Lena’s lips.
Neil naturally assumed it was all for him and slid into the booth across from Lena without an invitation. He smelled like expensive cologne and confidence, and Lena wondered if it worked for the other bored housewives in their town.
“I didn’t expect to see you here, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t happy about it,” Neil intoned, too vague to be interpreted as an outright confession.
Lena sucked on her lower lip as she tried to suss him out and squinted at the flirtatious way he looked her over.
“Is this your usual haunt with the kids?” Lena queried, keeping it casual as she sipped her wine and surveyed the room.
Several of their neighbors had noticed them sitting together, and Kara was nowhere to be seen.
“They have a soft play area out back. It keeps them entertained long enough for me to enjoy myself,” Neil confided and eyed the single glass of wine on the table with a slow smirk. “You’ll want to take advantage of that when your kids are old enough to run around.”
“Shouldn’t you be finding yours?” Lena lilted as she lifted her glass to point toward the area they had run off to explore. “Gumballs are quite the choking hazard.”
“And leave you here all alone? What kind of alpha would that make me?” Neil’s laughter was the least loud thing about him. The reek of his pheromones suggested his interest and Lena tried not to recoil obviously.
“One that isn’t flambéed,” Kara hissed in Lena’s ear.
From her vantage point, Lena could see the alpha sneaking a glance at Neil over another man’s shoulder, and she was pretty sure that Kara had to have been levitating a few inches to accomplish it.
“I’m actually expecting someone,” Lena blurted in distraction, and finally tore her gaze off Kara before her pheromones alerted Neil to her arousal.
“Ooh, secret admirer?” Neil teased, completely oblivious to how close he was to being airlifted to the middle of the sea with nothing but the clothes on his back.
Fortunately, Neil’s son began throwing stuff at the other paying customers and saved him from certain disaster.
One of the large purple gumballs bounced off Neil’s head with too perfect an aim, and Lena knew that Kara took her chance when she saw it.
“We’re going to have to continue this conversation later,” Neil grunted and stood up to retrieve his wild child before the kid pelted any more of the diners.
Lena was ready to accept that Neil had been the idiot who left the flowers on the porch until Brad Klegger entered the restaurant without his wife.
“There were a lot of alphas checking me out at the block party, but Brad has been trying to engage with me a lot more this week,” Lena muttered into her wrist, speaking to Kara in a discreet way that wouldn’t make her look like she was talking to herself in public.
From back near the kitchens, Lena heard a loud sizzle and spotted the brief glow of red in her mate’s eyes, which Kara directed towards a grill instead of Brad’s goofy face.
Brad walked over to sit at the counter, paying no mind to Lena and instead picking up a menu.
It took him too long to clock her sitting alone at a table, but when he did finally notice her, he moved fast on his feet.
“Lena, you look beautiful tonight,” Brad sang out in his slight twang and perched on the seat opposite her. “Did you dress up for a special someone?”
It was hard to interpret whether Brad genuinely meant someone else or himself. Lena blinked at the booth behind Brad’s head where Kara slid into the nearest seat.
“Yes,” Lena breathed in fake flirtation, eyeing her mate as she tucked a curl behind her ear. “What about you?”
Brad had a large grease stain on his polo and blushed as he laughed at her. “Why, you’re special, aren’t you?”
There was a loud crunching noise from the neighboring booth, and Lena wondered if it was the table itself or the metal pole that held it upright. Kara must have destroyed some part of its structural integrity because she heard a waitress exclaim, “Oh no! Dear me, what happened?”
Lena resorted to desperate measures to keep Brad’s head from turning. “You look very handsome.”
She gagged on the words, bending over her wine glass to choke without being too obvious. So far, both Neil and Brad openly flirted with her, and she still couldn’t nail which one of them had been stupid enough to leave a bouquet on her porch.
“Thank you for the flowers,” Lena added as she coughed on Kara’s private pheromones that demanded her full attention.
Expressing gratitude for the gift would reveal whether Brad was the sender, and then she could tell him off for it—but the idiot just sat across from her and actually scratched his head.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Brad explained, his hidden country accent much more apparent to Lena when she wasn’t just pretending to listen to him. “What flowers?”
“Fliers,” Lena over enunciated and chuckled like she found him adorable. “We received quite a few in our mailbox informing us that there’s going to be a yard sale this weekend. I thought it was from you.”
Brad looked ready to confide it wasn’t from him, but the sudden appearance of Kara clamped his mouth shut. The alpha’s powerful pheromones were too strong for him, and he stood up with a wheeze, “Well, it sure was nice to see you Lena, but I had better let you two eat.”
“Have a nice night, Brad,” Kara stressed, her tone nowhere near friendly as she slid into the seat across from Lena and asserted her claim by taking Lena’s hand to kiss her knuckles. It was a sweet gesture that several of the neighborhood omegas watched enviously.
Lena raised a questioning brow at her mate and wondered if Kara swooping in deterred the real culprit, or if it had been Neil all along. It would have been smart on his part to test the waters and see if Lena would show up at all.
Kara glanced at a waitress as she delivered four meals to their table and a decadent chocolate shake with sprinkles around the glass rim.
“Are other people going to be joining you?” The waitress asked, blinking down at the plates that Kara pulled in towards her side.
“No,” Lena emphasized, eyeing the speed at which Kara tore into a burger. “Kara just has a big appetite.”
The waitress shrugged and walked off, leaving Kara to take her rage out on a chicken wrap that she stuffed into her mouth. “It’s safe to say it doesn’t matter who gave you the flowers. I have to keep my eye on every alpha in this town.”
Lena smiled and dimples appeared on her cheeks, felt in the strain of the muscle as she maintained that happy expression for much longer than she had in recent history. She picked up a wrap that was clearly meant for her, since it rested on a bed of kale and came with vegetables instead of fries.
“It’s not like this person is a menace to my safety,” Lena intoned and soothed her mate with gentle pheromones. “Besides, maybe I should be thanking them. It was their absurd gesture that got us out of the house on our first date in months.”
Kara’s jealous musk lightened up as the topic changed to their relationship and she put down the burger she almost finished in three bites. “I didn’t realize it had been so long.”
“We’re going to have to do the unspeakable and ask our mothers to babysit more often so we spend this time together.” Lena sighed at the gloating and unwarranted parenting lectures they would have to endure, but it would be worth it to get this time with her best friend.
Sitting down for a meal with Kara that wasn’t interrupted by the soft howling or needs of their babies was important.
Lena slipped off her heel under the table and ran her stocking clad toes over Kara’s leg to hint as to how she wanted to end their night.
Kara grabbed her plates and moved into the seat next to Lena, where they could hold hands and touch as they finished eating.
They arrived back at home by bedtime, and after reading stories, kissing their children goodnight and sending Lillian home with a schedule for future babysitting, Lena stood barefoot in the living room.
She took out her earrings and ran her fingers through her loose hair. Music played from a smart home device that she invented to pick up on moods. The beats definitely confirmed her excitement, and the private pulse between her thighs begged for Kara to come to her.
The softest whoosh made Lena turn around and she smirked at what she saw — Kara standing in tight royal blue boxers and a matching sports bra, both new and sexy on her toned body.
“Did you dress up for me?” Lena asked for no reason and stared at the abs that were a contoured terrain for her hands.
She liked to touch Kara’s solid Kryptonian muscles, and she had no qualms about running her palms down to Kara’s quads and feeling the definition in her legs and ass.
“It is date night after all.” Kara modestly clasped her hands in front of her and shut her eyes for a moment as a blush took over her face.
Lena continued to indulge in groping her mate, from her strong forearm down to the muscle she loved most. Kara’s cock filled the front of the boxers, too thick to be contained by the part of the underwear that should have cupped it.
“You know, even if we never find out who sent the flowers, we could just pretend we’re undercover, living our double lives out here in the suburbs as spies,” Lena proposed with a slow lift of her brow.
She enjoyed the excitement that it brought back to their relationship, and all of Kara’s posturing had left her excited to get home so she could have the alpha all to herself.
“It would definitely perk up grocery shopping,” Kara intoned, playing into the idea of it as she slipped her hand onto Lena’s hip to pull her in for a kiss. It was sweeter than Lena expected, with Kara’s tongue first caressing her lip before demanding entrance to her mouth with a sensual flick.
This could have been the answer to finding the romance that had tapered off after the twins were born. Their lives had been put on hold, and Lena was ready to begin living again.
She stroked Kara through the thin cotton of her boxers, sliding the material away with a push while her mate rubbed at her breasts. The wide tip of Kara’s cock poked up at her, and Lena grinned from ear to ear at the syrupy drip that beaded and trickled.
She would have stooped onto her knees if Kara didn’t lift her up and carry her to the stairs. It reminded her of close saves, Kara coming to her rescue and scooping her up, and she had to wonder if her mate was practicing for their wedding night.
Kara placed her down in front of their bedroom mirror and opened the back of her dress, discarding it onto the floor. She followed its descent and picked Lena up, this time over her shoulder.
“Is this how it’s going to be now? You’re just going to carry me everywhere?” Lena could get used to it, these primitive and territorial instincts that stripped her down to the bare needs of her omega.
“Like a cavewoman.” Kara lowered her onto the bed and slid in between her thighs to take off her stockings one by one, releasing them from the clasps of her lingerie. “I might just keep you barefoot and pregnant.”
“And what would I do with my shoe collection? One of the few perks of living out here is that I have a walk-in closet twice the size of the one I had in National City.” Lena argued just for the sake of it and stilled as Kara’s fingers traced the line of her thong.
Speaking of things that were twice the size, Lena glanced at the beautiful projection of Kara’s cock. Her pussy responded so sensitively to a light caress and how Kara’s middle and forefinger dabbed into her slick. Kara played around the sides of her panty, from time to time slipping a finger under it to feel her clit.
Kara’s lips parted in quiet satisfaction as she peeled the thong aside to feel the heated ripple of Lena’s entrance. “If I’m being honest, one of the things I miss most about National City is seeing you strut around in your heels like you owned whatever room you were standing in at the time. Nothing could drop me to my knees faster than that.”
She pushed in with two fingers, part way at first just to glide through her silk, and then knuckle deep. The gradual crook of her fingertips massaged Lena’s upper wall and Kara bent forward to taste the moan she created.
The sensual meeting of their mouths held romantic undertones, and Lena reached up to cup Kara’s faces and draw her back for another. This was what they had been missing, the emotional connection that had once sustained them for years when they weren’t yet mates. All of the longing and need poured out of Lena in the breathiest of sounds, and Kara caught them with her kiss.
Lena had forgotten what sex was like when she wasn’t rushed off her feet taking care of twin babies or batting back the omegas from their neighborhood. She expected Kara to take full advantage of her, prone and naked and wet enough for three fingers.
Lena even whined for it as Kara thumbed at her clit, looping semi circles on one side then the other to make her restless enough to pump her hips.
“That’s enough foreplay, Kara. I need you inside me,” Lena whimpered, her passage quivering around Kara’s fingers the way it should have spasmed on her cock.
With all their reminiscing, she should have known where this was going, but she gasped when Kara denied her with the pull of her alpha.
“Not yet. I want to know if you’re still my good girl, Lena. Can you hold off until I decide you’re ready?”
Kara hadn’t behaved like this in over a year, and Lena’s impatient undulations just seemed to stoke her mate’s libido. The longer she went without an orgasm, the hotter and slicker her cunt would become, and the better it would feel wrapped around Kara’s cock.
“I’ll be your good girl,” Lena whispered, mellow in spite of what her mate was asking of her.
It took complete obedience to curb her urges and open her legs for Kara’s thrusting fingers. Kara massaged into her inner silk, concentrating on the same location. Her cunt knew this routine, the repeated striking up against that interior curve where her arousal accumulated. The consistent little slams inside of her did more than just stretch her and make her wet. It put her in a submissive headspace, where her pussy was Kara’s and her pleasure depended on the praise she received. Her clit reddened from stimulation and denial as Kara rubbed her close to orgasm before backing off.
“You’re being so good for letting me touch your cunt like this. You want to come so badly, don’t you?” Kara’s quiet words were laced with lust and Lena shivered as her mate spread her fingers to see how slick she was inside.
The slow friction kept the soft striations of her pussy sensitive and warm, and she whimpered when Kara resumed playing with her clit.
“Yes, but I won’t,” Lena vowed, serious and breathless from the constant attention that had her writhing on the sheets. She wanted to make Kara proud, and every act of resistance was another way of proving her love for the alpha.
“Are you sure?” Kara asked, gliding her thumb back and forth over the slippery peak of Lena’s clit with just enough pressure to make her moan for more. “Your pussy is fluttering so beautifully inside. It feels like you want it, Lena.”
“I can’t. You didn’t give me permission,” Lena whined, her thighs tense and back bowed as she tried to stave off the pleasure.
The more she struggled, the faster Kara pumped her fingers and she trembled as she neared release.
“That’s right, good girls come on command, and you have to wait,” Kara intoned, unfairly using her speed to send arousing vibrations all through Lena’s clit.
Her entrance pleaded with a series of contractions, and Lena gritted her teeth as she strained against the ecstasy.
Kara stopped at the precise moment Lena would have ruined herself, stilling entirely to give her a chance to catch her breath. She groaned at the loss of Kara’s fingers and raised herself up on her elbows to watch Kara align her cock with her pussy.
The tip slipped through her stretching lips, just as deep as the rim, and the in-out friction threatened to undo Lena’s poise. For all of the slow momentum, it worked her up to go at that pace and experience a gentle spread of her cunt that left her wanting. It created new slick in her cunt, and she positioned her legs in a bent up fold.
“Do you want me to look at your pussy, Lena?” Kara took advantage of her raised knees to open her thighs and part Lena’s labia with her thumbs. She glimpsed the rutted out space inside that held to the shape of her cock.
They could both see it in the nearest mirror, her slim inner lips and the gape of her entrance.
“Am I ready for more now? Are you going to finally fuck me hard, Kara?” Lena sulked with her pheromones to get Kara to act, to fill the vacant chamber of her pussy and shoot seed into her cervix.
Kara exhaled slowly, her breath tickling Lena’s skin as she held her open to see the tiny spasms of Lena’s need. She looked vibrant inside, and Kara pressed into her until the thickened helmet of her cock was snug and enrobed in her sensual satin.
“I don’t think your pussy can handle the kind of pounding I want to give it.” Kara retreated once more to slide the wet tip over Lena’s clitoris.
The glide encouraged Lena’s gyrations, and she rubbed her slick over the length of Kara’s shaft.
Overstimulated and greedy from the deprivation, Lena’s omega went against her will and locked her knees together. She tried to trap Kara’s cock against her cunt and whimpered as the veins along the alpha’s erection throbbed in tandem with her clit. “Yes, it can. Please Kara. I need you to rut me, to keep me conditioned so that I only come on your cock.”
Kara shifted to sit on the edge of the bed, and Lena would have wallowed pathetically if the alpha hadn’t patted her lap. The heady musk of their arousal left her drowsy and relaxed, and Lena moaned as she straddled her mate. She remained poised above Kara’s girthy cock, their lips grazing one another’s as she begged with her eyes to be sated.
“Do you deserve a reward for doing so well, Lena? Should I give you a full pussy for behaving yourself?” Kara cupped at Lena’s backside, keeping her just shy of penetration as she lowered her onto the swollen glans of her cock.
The delicate partition of Lena’s lips naturally slotted Kara’s tip against her entrance, and she rasped in excitement. “Yes, that’s exactly what I want, fill me up, fuck my c-uunhhh—”
The steady breach of her walls rendered her speechless and Lena slid down Kara’s thickened pole with a groan of pure satisfaction. She didn’t realize her reward was to simply sit there until Kara lightly bounced her with a hand between her thighs. The light friction encouraged the ache of her clit and Lena’s channel sporadically clenched.
Kara somehow managed to deny her even when she gave her everything, and the frustration it created within Lena had her huffing and gasping. She could barely stay still when every flutter of her cunt tightened her. Kara brought her to the cusp by tracing Lena’s clit with the pad of two fingers.
“Is this what you need, Lena?” Kara asked, knowing damn well that she was close to breaking her mate.
A fragrant pool of slick coated Kara’s knot-base, and Lena rocked herself on the heated bulge that was gradually forming.
“No,” Lena wailed, her lower lip trembling as her body threatened to override her senses.
“You don’t want a full pussy?” Kara asked, driving Lena to near insanity as she began to pull out.
It was all part of the game, but it had been so long since they had played it that Lena was reaching her limit. “You know I do. Please Kara, before I lose my mind.”
The sudden emptiness she experienced in her cunt was forgiven when Kara positioned her on the bed with a growl so deep that Lena almost climaxed from the power of it. Rivulets of slick coated Lena’s thighs and she stayed on all fours as Kara mounted her with a swift and desperate buck.
They began to move at the same time, Lena pushing back with her hips rounded and her torso lower on the mattress as she supported her weight on her forearms. Kara stood at the end of the bed and parted Lena’s cheeks and the slim separation between her pussy lips.
From the earlier tantalizing, Lena’s pussy spasmed and flooded with her slick, her canal opening and shutting in orgasm. Her internal sensitivity was piqued, and she shuddered with the feeling that this was minor in comparison to the pleasure she would achieve in the end.
She lifted her arms off the bed, attempting to lean more on her elbows and faltering more as Kara’s thrusts picked up.
“Take what you need, Lena,” Kara groaned. “Take my cock. You’re so good at it.”
Lena rocked, flexible on all fours, her breasts shaking with her movement. “Like this, Kara? If I recall accurately, this is how you got me pregnant.”
She moved as though she wanted it to happen again, as if eager sex and making pups with Kara was all that mattered. Her cunt grabbed at Kara’s shaft, slowing it down and releasing again.
“It is.” Kara misted her warm back with instantly melting ice. “Just like this, and you stayed on your knees with my knot inside you.”
That would have been the reason that Kara’s seed flooded her womb, the downward pose, thick knot, and Lena’s hunger for sex without condoms. She slipped one off Kara midway through their night. From then on, she could never go back, even though they had slept together dozens of times by that point.
It had been so hard to deprive herself of the shared heat and the fulfillment that came from Kara’s climax. Feeling all of the seed inside of her was primal, and she shivered and tensed through her chin and teeth as Kara shot out ropy, long spurts.
“With the amount of sex we were having, a pup was inevitable. But you liked me promiscuous. You wanted your bare cock inside me—”
Kara groaned, thrusting through orgasm and holding Lena’s ass cheeks in a tight grip. “I still do. I want to feel you, Lena. The heat inside you, how wet you are—”
“So wet, and you did this to me, Kara.” Lena breathed and stilled on her knees to listen to the sounds of her cunt. “You made me this way.”
Kara turned her into this insatiable being. Her nipples hurt from hormones, and her body already strained for more passion and satisfaction. She took Kara’s cock in deep, the thrusts prolonged as hot contractions went through her.
“Fuck,” Kara moaned at the exceptional power of it. “Good girl, come with my seed inside you. Come around me before I knot. I’m so close.”
Lena whimpered at the sensations inside of her cunt that willed Kara’s knot to expand. She trembled, sliding face down with just her hips raised.
Kara draped over her, thoroughly engorged and too deep to pull out now. She kissed Lena’s cheek as she turned her head, and then her mouth.
“In case there was any question in your mind, Lena, especially during the whole time we’ve been living here, I knowyou’re the only one for me. I love you.”
Lena looped Kara’s arm around her waist, sated in more ways than one from hearing that. She dropped her head onto the pillow and choked up as she whispered back, “I love you too.”

2022-06-03 20:28:56 +0000 UTCThank YOU! I LOVE writing comedy, though sometimes I do wonder if I'm just entertaining myself when I write it. 😂 Honestly, this one is just sooo much fun to write, given all of the annoying neighbor personalities and K + L's unresolved relationship issues AND of course their underlying love for each other.
2022-05-31 00:20:38 +0000 UTCYour ability to write comedy is exceptional. This piece is such a perfect balance between comedy and romance. Thank you for your work!☺️
2022-05-26 04:06:12 +0000 UTCThank you!! There are still some flaws in how they communicate, which will be fun to play around with... ☺️ Whoever sent the flowers sure isn't getting into Lena's good graces. 😂 You're going to find out where Sasha went eventually!
2022-05-22 11:05:35 +0000 UTC🤐☺️
2022-05-22 11:02:03 +0000 UTC😁 Wow, thank you! It's just soooo fun to write Lena disgruntled with living out in the suburbs. I have no plans to stop.
2022-05-22 11:00:38 +0000 UTCThank you!! We're at a lot of emotional parts across different fics, which means smutty-smut ahead (with those emotions now playing heavily into it). 😁 Kara does have a good memory, and they didn't get to finish the conversation, so the topics will come up again. HAHA, oh, Lillian will have a role to play eventually, but right now she's just happily spoiling her grandchildren for now. Oh, the proposing... that part is going to be fun. 🤐
2022-05-22 10:59:04 +0000 UTCThank you!! They're going to continue to be useless. 😂 Til the end of time. The grandmothers might be in future chapters. ☺️ That is a thing that WILL be happening. Kudos for the spot on prediction!
2022-05-22 10:49:57 +0000 UTCFinally, they’re on the same page. No more secrets. Wedding coming up. Love it. Great, great chapter 👏👏 P.S. I think Sasha sent those flowers to cause trouble between Kara & Lena. That plan sure as hell backfired. Lena should send her a thank you card 😝. I do wonder where Sasha is since she’s away and didn’t mention where she was going .
2022-05-21 20:42:18 +0000 UTCWhy do I have a feeling Sasha was trying to set Lena up with that note?
2022-05-21 16:44:15 +0000 UTCNo the “yogussy” 💀 This is literally my favorite series. Please never stop.
2022-05-21 03:02:21 +0000 UTCYou’ve really been on a roll lately with the fun/drama/sexy/sweet combo and I’m absolutely living for it. They finally get to have it out right there in the kitchen and damn Kara’s got a good memory. I’m so curious who Lena’s secret admirer is especially since Kara’s fan club is so blatant they practically have patches. “We’re calling your mother!” Ngl I thought Kara meant in the “we’re taking out this alpha one way or another” sort of sense 😂. Lillian WOULD already have a full background check on the entire neighborhood I have no doubt. And then they get fun role play date night awww. Sounds like someone has a proposal to set up and I’m excited to see who pops the question with all the posturing around the neighborhood!
