AMA - Ask us stuff in the comments!

We're gonna do an ask us anything (AUA?) thing for the bonus content this week. Folks in the discord had expressed interest in knowing more about Will's early career/start in music etc, so feel free to ask about that, or whatever else!

We're planning to record the ep on Monday evening!

Comments

Might be late to the part, but if you do more of these: A while ago Will tweeted about how his favorite visual aesthetic is 'corporate atrium' and it really stuck with me and Ive since made a playlist called 'Atriumcore' of songs that I feel like fit that aesthetic musically (Royksopp "In Space" is my go-to example). Just music that sounds like it belongs in a massive airport terminal with a lot of indoor trees. Does this make any sense and are there any songs you think fits this that I can add to my playlist lol

with your early career in mind will, How would your writing process have differed from say the fabric, to now

Has there ever been a downside to creating the 2.0 podcast? John once mentioned a supervisor being made aware of the show and suddenly realizing some of the banter you'd rather they not hear. But I think I'm asking about more interpersonal downsides. For example, that supervisor having a direct problem with it, hence causing problems at work; friends/family being put off by something said on the show; time/financial constraints becoming worse because of time or money spent on the show)

Will: in your early days of musicianhood, how much of your musical community was something you feel like you fell into by chance, versus actively sought out, and what sort of things did you do if anything to seek it out Both: How interested are you these days about looking into doing more live shows?

For both: do you think aliens have been to earth already? Why or why not? Would you want to be abducted by aliens? (yes im assuming you believe in aliens bc how could you not)

As a fan who spends a lot of time thinking about architect points and trying to make them good, I'm curious if you begin thinking about your points with "how do I actually imrpve this?" versus "how do I make this funny?" Aside - I have posted in it about five times because I'm 36 and find Discord intimidating, but it's very cool to me that you guys have a cool positive community. Those weirdos seem cool.

Both: what's your favorite seasoning or spice in food?

what is each of yalls preferred format for listening to music? (cd, tape, vinyl, digital, etc) also what kind of headphones do u like for that? - jen

Is there a pop culture phenomenon that you missed out on and regret it? (i,e Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Breaking Bad etc) Bonus question: NAME A WOMAN RIGHT NOW

Parker: (both) what's your favorite emotion?

Both: Favorite videogame item? John: What's the wildest thing you've ever used your rock hammer for out in the field (besides hitting rocks)? Will: Do you have any particular venues that are your absolute favorite to perform at and for what reasons?

John: What has your relationship with geology been throughout your life? Have you always been interested in it or was there a moment/period of time where it became fascinating?

Will: What does your songwriting process look like? What hits you in the brain first--rhythms, melodies, lyrics, etc? Do you ever have to force yourself to make music or does it always come organically?

Will: “Dirt (Lonely In Big Bear)” is one of my favorite pieces from you and has made me cry multiple times for some reason. Do you have any ambient/passive listening pieces that take you back to a certain time? JOHN: Are there any formations (rock or mountains) throughout history that has you scratching your head sometimes?

For Will: Were there any artists/albums that were especially influential in your decision to pursue a career in music? For John: What sound not found in the English language do you wish was used more?

both: tell me about a time you pulled a win over a nasty customer, or coworker, or manager while working in the service industry or otherwise. Whether it's Malicious Compliance, Saying NO, breaking stuff—whatever you got. i'm here for the gossip

SPUNT My Q is this: how come I thought you guys were from Canada or lived in Canada at some point and that's why you say Wârm like that and stuff. Is this the truth? I feel in my heart that I have a deep distant memory of an episode long ago where you went into this. If so, tell us more about the Great White North? If not, say to me Go Los Angeles Dodgers Furthermore: you guys ever use a tennisball to crack your back? Especially in the car if you've been driving a lot. I do! Love you both!!

Isaac Westergard

Hi guys! For John: What ultimately led you to leaving THQ/QA in general? What was the straw that broke the camels back? For Will: It's fascinating to me that both of your projects (Baths/Geotic) have each individually signed with two completely different but similarly influential underground labels (Anticon/Ghostly). What lessons did you learn from working with these labels that helped when it came to starting your own?

For Both: are there any 2.0 episodes that stand out as your favorite? And are there any topics (things to improve) that are off limits?

Andrea Bo Bandrea

Austin: (for Will) did you always plan/dream to be able to make music for a living and at what moment did you realize that it would be financially possible for you to rely on your music as your main source of income?
