I think in honor of the month of October, I ought to post my drafts for Cannibal October, no matter how embarrassed I might be to share them! I'll start off with the easiest one to share, as most of it had been posted publicly already.
At the time I called it "Wild Child," which also had several drafts/attempts that I'll post! The general idea was a caveman-like boy making his rough introduction into the civilized world, which has generally kept to the same feeling I still want. The difference being that this version of the main character is a lot more aggressive, where the current version will have a more creatively curious and better tempered boy...!
A meaningful memory I have with this old comic are the streams that I used to have while making it. Some of you may even remember? Yusuke Murata would stop by my stream every week or so and encourage me with uplifting comments. I imagine he'd make his rounds in the art community, bringing that kind of soulful burst of energy to hear praise from such an accomplished artist as himself-! It meant a lot to me, and I hope one day I can be in that position too, and surprise and inspire others. It left me with sweet memories and a soul full of energy to finish my project, one day!

Jungle book was absolutely an influence of mine and although I hadn't read berserk, those kinds of manga were definitely the types of style I was trying to emulate at the time! I remember this comic, I read it from Tapas long time ago, and every time it leaves me stonned, not only for the story, but for the massive job you did with the background and the details. 2024-10-21 06:07:48 +0000 UTCMy immediate thought was dark jungle book, because I honestly thought the bear was his friend and then he broke it down and the hyena was his friend lol This was beautifully done, I felt like I was reading Berserk for the first time with how dramatically contrasting the black and white is in some scenes. A very different take from Cannibal October for sure! If you ever finished this, maybe by killing off the men or resolving the confrontation at camp I could see this as a great one shot manga, and I'd buy it in print if I could ^^ A genius draft honestly. Don't ever feel embarrassed about sharing this ahhh <3
