Hey you guys, here it is, this month's BIG thank-you for the incredible Joshua!
Seems the local daycare for big kids has been hit by a sudden snowstorm, leaving everyone locked up for the time being.
Fortunately, Gavin's signed up as a volunteer, and is about to read a few stories to help the remaining bois, including Ethan and the newest addition to his little family Oliver, forget about time, until things calm down again.
Handling so many big babies must be quite the challenge, but I think he's up to the task ^^
Oh boy, I went a BIT crazy with the details in this one, so I pulled another all-nighter to ensure I'd be able to finish it all up today. The setting was just so endearing, I completely lost all sense of efficiency xP
And good thing too, because I just got a call from my brother and probably won't be able to do much more drawing today anyway. Big oof, big phew.
Rather than going for my usual sunset-afternoon-type lighting, I specifically wanted to depict a very cold, subdued scenario this time, only brightened by a bit of warm interior lighting. Similar to my christmas-themed one from a bit ago, but even more "chilly".
The contrast is pretty, and I think the more uncomfortable the outside is, the cozier the inside becomes.
Getting the composition and depth down with so many characters in the same room was a bit tricky in the beginning, but I think it ended up working out okay, yippee :D
Scenes like this really always remind me of my ultimate goal.
I would absolutely LOVE to be able to just focus on a pic like this for two or three weeks, cranking the size up to like 4k resolution or more, and going totally wild with details, lighting, textures, poses, and so forth. Certain things just don't make sense unless working in a certain size.
What's your opinion on that by the way?
Do you prefer a constant stream of medium-sized pics like this, or would you also enjoy a single huge pic instead?
I see quite a few artists do it like that, though they're all much much bigger than myself, so that could explain it.
Let me know what you think! <3
(Sidenote: Looking at the poll's current state, it seems like the vast majority is going to want a keyword-scramble in celebration of hitting 30+ patrons, so, unless something suddenly changes about that within the next few hours, I'll be making preparations for that, and announcing it sometime tomorrow! Very exciting!)
