What have you been doing? Update!

I know I know, you guys are all asking "What has KOA even been doing? It's not like he's released 12 videos this month or anything good like that." :D Seriously though guys I've been crazy busy! It's funny how these shorter videos (yes, any video less than 20 minutes for me is short! :D) take up just as much or even more time than others. A lot more research goes into them as they are typically informational, and then I actually write up a script, work on the flow of information, and even do retakes to try and ensure I'm...not....speaking...to....slowly, but not too fast as to lose people trying to learn about what I'm covering.

On the miniature side of things, I hit my first real snag with black lining.

I often show my wife my paintings because she can be overly cruel/honest. These look like tiger stripes. :D

The issue here is that they have VERY wrinkly clothes so there's just a lot of creases to black line. Plus, they are in fact orange and black.

So what do you think I should do? I could just leave them as is and call it good, or I could try to thin the black lines in hopes that thinner lines would make it look better, or I could dry something like an off black (in this case so as not to retrace everything I'd try and put something like Cassendora Yellow wash on them). I'd love to hear your thoughts on this situation! :)

I had a VERY proud moment this week by getting some of the best feedback I could possibly receive :)

"Thought you might like to know we had 300 people sign up to the newsletter after your video. The conversion rate on the signup to the newsletter from watching your video was 1:10 which is incredibly high. That is a real strong relationship you have with your community there :)."

This was based on the first 3,000 views of my Oathsworn video. Why I loved this feedback so much is that I honest and truly try to connect with all of you as much as I can. I'm always on Facebook or Instagram or Discord or BGG or the Kickstarter comments and updates because I just simply enjoy all of our interactions so much. I feel very blessed to be able to interact with you all in such a unique way and I'm proud of the trusting bond we've all created.

To be honest, I've had a rather crappy "real life" week. There's some stuff with work that put me in a really sour mood but every time I open up my email, or Discord, or Facebook and any of the other places we interact with I can't help but smile. You guys just cheer me up so much.

Thank you guys for being here! It means more to me than you probably know :)

I'm hoping that just a highlight will work (mainly as these guys have already taken quite a bit of time) but if it doesn't without thinning the lines, it'll be harder to thin them after the highlight. Might just have to bight the bullet and thin them first. "If you are going to paint it, might as well do it right" is my saying huh? Guess I gotta eat my words lol

Hmm, perhaps! At first I decided not to do that highlight because there's not always a lot of space and felt it'd fundamentally change the perceived color of the mini, but perhaps if I'm careful and use thin enough lines that would actually work! I think I'll try this over the weekend as I like the concept better than taking away the "ink" black outline that a comic would have. Good idea!

Also...I agree that making some of the thicker black areas more thin would help out.

so...what if you added a light yellow, or a white with an orange tint to separate the orange from the black so the contrast isn't so abrupt? Trying to imaging comic book styling. Could help to break up the "tiger" looks a bit.
