He's finished!

I really hope you guys like him and I look forward to working with all of you on my next monthly painting for you guys :)

This has to be the most detailed miniature I've painted yet. He took me at least 5 hours (it was 4.5 hours of footage and I don't record touchups or my NMM attempt on the swords) plus more than that for editing as I learned a new editing software and created some animations that I hope you appreciate. I wanted this one to be very special! :D

Good idea! This has actually been requested a few times :) I will have a new office by the end of next month and plan to put together a Patreon video of the setup for it. In the meantime there is a quick picture below of part of my current setup and my banner picture is of me actually painting. As for hardware, I have a large tripod with a small 13" LED light ring attached. In the middle of that is a Canon EOS Rebel T3i. It's a wonderful camera but only records up to 12 minutes of 1080p footage at a time and has not auto focus while recording so I hope to replace it when I can.

Hey! I think it would be awesome if you could make a video on the hardware you use to shoot your videos and your paint station and that kind of stuff...

Thanks! I really had to brainstorm how to include both colors and keep it noticeable but not ugly either.

BTW...I really like the rim. A very unique look that is easily recognizable on the board.

I bet it'd stop a sword swing fairly well also! I believe the Fox clan has this exact type of armor actually come to think of it!

BTW...a bit unrelated but not entirely, I read somewhere that some of the armor plates worn by samurai were partially or entirely made from paper...layers and layers of paper up to an inch thick. It could stop arrows and sword blows and was much lighter then metal. Fun fact!

Sure thing. So metallic paint is essentially just paint with glitter, meaning the whole things is shiny/sparkly which is fine, but ultimately not super realistic either. His swords shouldn't technically be glittery :) You can use different colored paints to achieve a Silver (or gold, or whatever) look without the glitter, making it more realistic because you can then "cast" the shininess to a specific part instead of "everywhere". It's a more advanced technique and one of the few that I hadn't tried before. This guy here has no metalic paint on him for instance (Also note it's from a resin model): https://ksr-ugc.imgix.net/assets/015/964/493/24739064a6e81430382a0d5a6ae81657_original.png?w=639&fit=max&v=1490203003&auto=format&lossless=true&s=587fa78e90d5d9ac6fe7d31012593a6f

Glad you enjoyed it! It took a lot of time and effort but feel the end quality justifies it :)

Can you explain more the use of non-metalic metals vs just using metalic paint? Is there a particular reason, or just a preference in how it looks?

Finally was able to watch this thing through to the end. Beautiful job!

Thanks Banda! I did in fact use Hitfilm :) Finally took the time to learn it. It cost me the weekend but I think my videos will benefit from it. And yes, I've even mentioned painting recessed areas first. Not sure where my brain was at on this one. Turned out okay but did cost me some time I feel. As you saw, I had to grab out the Mummy Robes about 10 separate times :P What yellow ink is this? I have quite a few Army Painter paints now, but only the black, browns, and green washes.

Dude that's tight. Did you do this with Hitfilm!? Or did you go with a different editor? Also, one thing that I've found really helpful especially on these smaller minis is to paint the most recessed areas first. That way you don't have to worry about accidentally getting paint on the outer areas as you're trying to get your small detail brush into those small spaces. Just thought I'd mention that in case that's helpful for ya :) Like how he turned out! Looks real nice. Really like the choice of yellow. I need to try out some more yellows. The ones I have are ok, but not my favorite (except for yellow Game Ink - LOVE that one). You tried out the Army Painter yellow yet? Interested to hear your thoughts on it.
