Most of the time it gets used as if only "progressives" or "liberals" use it, always on favour of racial/sexual minorities, women, etc. Meanwhile republicans yell all the time about being a Christian nation but apparently that's not identity politics. The same thing with the word "woke" although this one's even worse because it's just a conservative moral panic using a word originally used by the black community to alert people about systemic racism.
