Lana has told her sister, Alyssa several times not to venture into the desert temple's ruins. Sure, it's rumored that deep with its sunken walls lies an amulet that bestows immortality on its bearer. Sure, the temple's serpent guardian hasn't been seen in decades. But still Lana warns her younger (and inspiring adventurer) to avoid the ruins at all cost. And she obviously doesn't listen...
Just because you can't see something, it doesn't mean it isn't there...
