HOW TO MONSTER: poll for MAY (HTM10)
Added 2020-03-26 20:48:50 +0000 UTCwhat should my next HOW TO MONSTER tutorial be about? you can vote for up to 3 options!
after doing a few tutorials about various anatomical areas (mouths, noses/muzzles, horns/antlers) i thought it would be fun to change gears a bit and make a guide to a specific 'group' of monsters. HTM10 will be focused on concepting and designing monsters of a given 'category,' whether you want to give them a traditional or unconventional look. for inspiration we'd look at examples from different cultures of the world and at different tropes usually associated with that group of creatures. it'll be lots of fun--and this will be my 10th ever tutorial! how exciting is that!
• "aquatic monsters" would deal with underwater and amphibious creatures, ranging from merfolk and deep sea beasties to creatures of folklore that are somehow associated with water.
• "dragons" would, of course, be about draconic monsters, drawing inspiration from different cultures and exploring the spectrum from 'classic dragon looks' to more innovative designs.
• similarly, a guide to "demons" would look at different ways to make a design look proper demonic. we would discuss demons from all over the world and various tropes that such beings may or may not have in common.
• "elemental monsters" would be all about designs that draw inspiration from natural elements, whether 'core' ones like fire and earth, or natural phenomena like thunder/storms, fog, and lava.
• last but not least a guide to "faeries & elves" would focus on designing various kinds of fair folk, ranging from high elves of the tolkien school to the tricksy, mischievous, or downright malevolent denizens of faerie.
all $10+ patrons can suggest topics for future HTM polls - check out THIS post! what aspects of concepting, designing, and drawing monsters would you like me to make an HTM guide about? (and don't worry, i'm keeping track of which topics seem the most popular (for example i know there's a big interest in a tutorial about wings!) but i don't want to repeat prompts two polls in a row, so we'll probably see the return of 'wings' and 'fur' in the next poll...!)
this poll will end on may 7th and HTM10 will be released no later than may 31st!
