EMINEM “If I Had” REACTION

Lotta revelations in this one!

EMINEM “If I Had” REACTION

I’d argue that “back then” you had far more leeway to say obscene things than you do now. You’re talking about a time when Girls Gone Wild was on MTV right? This was way before Kanye went on Live National Television and said “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” lol. These days EVERYTHING is censored because EVERYTHING is corporatised. Back then you had pirate radio/TV stations that were very popular - hence Wayne’s World! I don’t disagree that these things should be rapped or sung about regardless of people’s sensitivities though. At the end of the day it’s art. It isn’t glorifying or condemning, it’s simply being. We as the audience get to consume it and ingest it however we see fit through our own personal lens. In regards to the whole “wigga” thing, I was raised by a Jamaican, so you can imagine I’ve heard this shit my entire life. I was too white to hang around with the black kids and “too black” to chill with the whites. I was that kid by default… And I’m not the only one that exists. Maybe there were a lot of disingenuous whites back then but these days it ain’t the same. That’s why although I know the media like to stoke racial tension, I honestly think we’re less separated than we were back in the 80’s/90’s when rap first took off. Nobody’s being removed from Patreon for having opinions either my friend! I doubt we agree on everything because if we did we’d be best friends already lol, we all have different perspectives, I welcome them all 👍

I'm a metal person too but when I was growing up in the '90s Eminem was a big fucking deal and it was because he was saying things that nobody else was he was risking saying things that scumbags said. Alter ego (he's not really a scumbag) but to go out on a limb and say some really messed up shit and get away with it and have so many people be like oh my God that's awesome.. You had to listen to it. And it was maddening to a lot of us that we thought it was pushing a narrative of rape being okay etc. But the thing is back then you did not have freedom of speech as far as music. You could get that little stamp on your CD that says parental advisory -which meant everybody wanted to listen to it more by the way-, but there was no freedom! You were getting condemned left and right by all these politicians. I know in the other video you were saying that it was kind of messed up that he was creating the normalization of things. Well I think that was just him saying you're not giving me the freedom- your prosecuting me for freedom of speech when that's supposed to be part of the Constitution. I agree with what you said that it was normalizing cuz I was one of those people that was shocked that he was saying shit about fucking little girls and raping people, however, The bigger point was they were trying to shut his mouth. sorry I could go on and on but it doesn't matter what you listen to back then everybody listened to Eminem. Love him or hate him it was just really shocking back then to hear the words coming out of his mouth. Oh and where I come from, when white people would sag their pants and talk with a fucking accent that they didn't grow up having, yeah it was a problem for so many white parents. And for those of us that grew up with these people who watch them change into "black people " It's pretty annoying. You didn't come from the hood, you grew up down the street from me, middle class. So that's what was going on and people were probably right to be like why you acting like that... Sure you've heard of 'wigga' he created a bunch of them back in the day. If you don't like what I'm posting because I'm talking real or you feel like it's not okay and you want to delete me and throw me off your patreon that's fine, but that's what it was back in the '90s that's how I grew up and that's how things were.

I think "us metal people" have more in common with rap then you'd initially think. I grew up with a single mom and 2 siblings without a dad since he had a restraining order for being abusive. She refused to get alimony because she wanted him to have nothing to hold over our heads. We were poor until the bastard died. My sister was into protest music like U2 and Bob Dylan, my brother was into NWA and Public Enemy and I was into metal. We all dealt with our problems with music. I got into Em after my brother got terminally ill and he asked me to put together a playlist for his funeral. I got down the rabbit hole but diverted to Eminem. It helped me deal with grief.
