This was more about coopting cultures and image, he's throwing gang signs and then heading home to a nice suburban home. He's a poser trying to fit in to something he's not experienced or grown up in, "you know he doesn't get it anyway". We've come to the point where things like rap and hip hops only known white people aren't just Vanilla Ice, so it may seem a bit off now, but it was about trying too hard to fit in a subculture you're never going to understand

I kind of understand your point. However I remember back in a day when MTV kicked in, all of a sudden there were groups of people imitating (poorly, as it was unnatural in comparison to how they acted like a day ago) the style (clothes, speaking manner) of other races and in fact playing on stereotypes and in some way making them even worse through overacting. And for me this song was always a criticism of this behavior. So I mean I'm not sure if I could fully agree that it is a self-depreciation to white men, more like pointing out that one acting like a poser self-depreciates white men himself.
