this process pack is a bit different in that it deals with drawing multiple smaller images at once (here's the finished piece) instead of just one big drawing or painting. this means i approached it in a somewhat different way, and i hope you can find it interesting and/or useful!
like i mentioned when i posted the finished picture(s), i didn't originally intend to draw this many panels of what is essentially a mini-comic. it all started out with the panel in the top left corner of the process image--ariel lubing his hand up with dragon spit--and those below, of ariel fingering sitri with his dripping hand. and then i sketched ariel making sitri suck on logan's cock, and then i wanted to draw the very same cock rubbing at sitri's pussy, and suddenly i was also drawing a full-body view of sitri being fucked from behind, and ... yeah. suddenly i was looking at a total of 18 panels, all of which i wanted to lineart and colour.
i knew that in order to actually accomplish that, i had to aim for a kind of quick and simple style, or i would get tired of it/get bored/lose attention mid-way and end up not finishing it at all. i decided that i wouldn't even try to draw any backgrounds, so i settled on a simple, muted pink hue that went well with the colour schemes of the characters. side note; this colour scheme is a bit of a challenge to me, since i find it tricky to make the purple + gold/yellow combination look good, but in the words of tim gunn; i made it work. i picked a limited colour palette to make sure the whole thing looked cohesive and to make it easier for myself to find the right colours again and again as i was working on different parts of each character/panel.
the lineart is pretty straight-forward. i tried to keep it relatively clean and not add too many details--partly because i wanted to stick to a relatively simple style, and partly because the individual panels aren't super big (even if the canvas i worked on was pretty huge). i added some scaling to logan and some texture to sitri's and ariel's hair, but other than that the characters look kind of flat and smooth.
the same goes for the colouring; i kept it relatively simple. it's basically "just" flat base colours, some gradients, and some painted details. compare steps 06 to 09 to see the difference after i've added the main gradients (both dark and light); and compare steps 13 and 14 to see what a difference it makes in the overall impression to polish up the outlines and add finishing details. colouring parts of the lineart (step 12) also changes the look of the picture and, in my personal opinion, makes it look more ... refined? than if i'd kept the lineart all black.
as for the painted details; much of each panel is rather flat-looking, with only the most important bits being more rendered, specifically their genitals and the spit/cum. just compare the level of detailed sheen on logan's tongue and cock to the flatness of his scales, or the gooey slipperyness of the cum and spit to the characters' textureless skin, or the flatness of sitri's body to the wet blush of his pussy and dick. the details are where the action's at, demanding attention and telling the viewer where to focus. even if only the important parts of each panel is detailed/painted, it makes the whole picture look finished and polished--you're busy focusing on the detailed bits, so you barely notice that the rest of the panels are kind of flat-looking, and your brain sort of fills in the blanks.
another thing worth discussing is that, as you can see, i worked on all 18 panels at once, rather than finishing one panel and then moving on to the next. this was both to make sure the style of linearting and colouring was coherent in every panel, to make sure i finished all of them instead of quitting after doing just a few of them, and also to draw the characters in a consistent way in each panel. there's some slip-ups (i forgot sitri's gold lip marking in a bunch of the pictures, one of the full-body pictures of logan has less scaling detail than the others, pretty sure the jewelry isn't exactly the same in all the panels, etc) but to be quite fucking honest i blame that on laziness. i could've last-minute fixed it, but i decided to yolo on with my life. either way i feel like i did a good job making the characters look consistent in each panel, both in regards to their individual features and their relative size compared to one another. of course, it helped that i was already so familiar with their designs--i could probably draw logan with my eyes closed...
