my first ever WIP/PROCESS PACK! here you can see how my latest picture of akhuru and ilan goes from a very rough sketch to a finished painting. download the attached ZIP below, containing 13 pngs and one gif!

this is a pretty good example of my painting process. it usually starts with a pose idea - i like sketching poses without even necessarily having a particular character/pairing in mind. this pose and angle is all about where the action's at. sure, i like drawing blissful expressions too, but in this case the human is essentially just faceplanting with pleasure overwhelm. as my girlfriend commented upon seeing the sketch, "he's havin a good time."

anyway, this were-style anatomy works for many of my monsters, and in this case i ended up settling on akhuru (a sphinx) and his lover ilan. this is actually the first colour picture i've done of them - i've done some concept sketches of akhuru's colour scheme and markings before, but this is the first "real" coloured image, yknow? i love their colour scheme, with akhuru's grey hues being inspired by snow leopards. a couple of challenges here was making sure ilan didn't just melt into the background colours, and also how to do akhuru's weird eye-like markings without making them look like Too Much.
